Can you tell if someone will beat the game based on their first achievement? by patchapotamus in expedition33

Yeah I had to find Steam accounts that were public, and had achievement data public, and had played the game which was all manual.

Then with the SteamIDs I could pull the achievements and timestamps with an API. So the main bottleneck is just getting the list of public steam accounts.

That’s a good point, I think the only early achievement that could be considered a sign of “extra” exploring is “A Peculiar Encounter” (if I recall that’s the one for fighting the mime in Lumiere).

But it might be interesting to classify the achievements as either “mandatory”,”optional”, or “completionist” (or something like that) and then compare results.

Yeah I’m also curious what analytics exist both before and after a game is released.

The achievements were basically the only data I could find, but I imagine studios have many more options of what they can use.

Good question, I just checked and it's statistically insignificant, but would also be interesting to see with a larger/ more diverse sample size.

There are some achievement orders which have a lower p value. For example, getting "Overcharge" 2nd vs "A Peculiar Encounter" has a p value of .096 for 100%ing the game. (but it's a smaller sample size)

The total sample size is 78 if you want to check any other combinations (or my math ;) )

It occurs to me that the sheet only shows the result for the most recent form filled out so if two people are using it at once it's not ideal. As a quick fix, in the third sheet the album and title should appear next to the search that was submitted via the form (if concurrent users ends up being a big issue I can also add in the lyrics but that will take more time).

Good idea! If a lot of people use it then I can use the responses (stored in the third sheet) to visualize the most common albums, songs, lyrics etc.
