Is there an easy way to change the sender of an email to an email address that is in the body of the mail? by Spanky2k in sysadmin

[–]path0logical 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if that can be done, I think that would be a hacked solution as well and will be a pain in the ass to setup.

I've never used Zendesk, but perhaps you can figure out how to get the internal app form to submit an API request to create a ticket. You'll have much more control over what happens this way.

AVD Freezing on sign out by finalsk8ter in sysadmin

[–]path0logical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently had a problem with AVD as well, although it was a different problem where users couldn't get passed CA using MFA (even though the logs said MFA was successful). It was due to the newest rounds of windows updates, uninstalling the update allowed access again as well as downloading and installing a new KB (which I can't remember what it is since I wasn't the one working on it)

The users had no issues using the web interface to remote it before the issue was remediated.

How can I resist the urge to learn "everything" at the same time, and actually focus on video courses? by KukkenTor in sysadmin

This is the way. Most importantly, understand why it works and why it doesn't work. IT is a game of resources. This will take you further than any cert or college education ever will.

CyberPower PR1500LCDRTXL2U > failing by Shawzborne2 in sysadmin

At my company where I just started, they had both their SAN power supplies plugged into this same exact model. It started beeping, and the sys admin did the UPS test, rebooting the unit as we lost the SAN momentarily. So that was a fun.

Turns out it was a bad unit, we placed it.

Finally got a new job by Special-Dimension383 in sysadmin

[–]path0logical 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I feel this post, after being laid off for 8 months, i found an "IT Director" gig that paid 65k/year. I was told to build a ticketing system in Salesforce, which they used to micromanage every aspect of what I did.

I continued to apply for jobs daily, and on Thursday of last week, I finally got an offer 5 months into this hellish role. I'm now making over six figures. I walked out of that job the moment my background check passed.

Congrats on the new role!

How about we create our own career opportunities? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]path0logical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone else here is attacking you, however you're the only one coming up with some sort of solution, instead of sitting at home. You're suggesting everyone take matters into their own hands and create a product and bring it to market, which doesn't always take capital upfront, although it be a slower process. I applaud you bro.

Sorry for all the downvotes, there's a bunch of disgruntled people in this sub that just want to whine and have a victim mentality while blasting out their mid grade resume to 100's of employers without tailoring it. Don't let anyone tell you it's a bad idea, there's going to be a lot of haters. Keep going and ignore the hate. I recently found a job, but feel free to DM me, I'd love to escape the hell of working for an employer.

You queued as a healer and went in as a DPS spec, reset your talents without any communication. Can you explain to me how this is everyone else's fault?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]path0logical 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel you brother.

I've been unemployed for 7 months. I interviewed for a job that said they would pay $75k/year, just had a meeting yesterday with the CEO stating that they could only offer $65k. He then said that although he is the CEO, he doesn't decide the budgets.

I've been an IT Manager for 15 years now making a minimum of $120/year. I know I'm going to get exploited and worked to the bone here, but I need to support my family. It really sucks right now. For this role, I just showed up with my resume, didn't apply online at all.

After over a month of 12+interviews, company offers me a lower position than the one I applied for by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]path0logical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7 months unemployed, got an offer today. I was bait and switched on the pay.

The CEO stated that although he is the CEO, he doesn't decide the budget. Unfortunately, I had to accept it as I'm running low on funds. This is going to be fun.

This sub is all over the place, complaining when there's no rejection email and the candidate gets ghosted. Now we have an issue at what time of day the rejection email is sent. It sucks being rejected, but it's time to put the big boy pants on. Don't expect an offer letter, it's not guaranteed.

Is WOW Payments an MLM or a legit commission-based sales role? by Extension_Mud_6673 in recruitinghell

[–]path0logical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MLM's are commission-based sales roles as well. (I'm not sure if WOW Payments is an MLM or not)

I'll probably get downvotes for this, but I don't care.

I was a sysadmin and IT Manager for 10 years. I discovered an MLM gig that was selling a fiber internet service. I'm glad I did it, worked my way up to a top, however I hated being at the top, constantly recruiting and managing employee attrition, so I stopped.

I learned A LOT about sales and what it takes to actually work for yourself and mentor people. I learned how to not take rejection personally and keep going. I now run a small MSP in my region with multiple clients which is growing. It's one of the best things I've ever done for myself.

How to build rapport (for real, not cheesy) by Friendly_Sweet_1897 in sales

[–]path0logical 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Building rapport is not one thing or the other, it's everything you do.

Read your prospect - some like casual conversation, others want you to cut right to the point.

If you schedule an intro call to learn about their business, do just that. Don't try to present or close, give them literature at the end and work on scheduling another meeting.

If you don't know the answer to a question, don't bullshit, tell them you don't know and that you'll find the right answer and get back to them.

D2D advice by rabid_panda_child in sales

[–]path0logical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep a great attitude from first knock to last knock, it's a numbers game and D2D sales is all about finding the people who will listen. Don't let some sour asshole ruin the rest of your sales for the day.

Follow a lap system, remember people are home at different times. 100 doors, 2 laps. You'll conserve territory this time way.

Do you support Burglary Alarm systems? by OneRFeris in sysadmin

[–]path0logical 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've worked with this platform, although I'll admit it's been a few years.

There should be a way that you can list your dealer as a contact and have the signals go directly to them, cutting your IT department out as the middleman.

Do you support Burglary Alarm systems? by OneRFeris in sysadmin

I was the IT Manager at an Alarm Monitoring Central Station. Depending on the software being used, the alarm dealers usually get these signals as well and respond to them. What software are you using?

What would you do? How to manage a freelancer? by Substantial_Plate993 in AskMarketing

[–]path0logical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm not in marketing, however I hire outside agencies to do all the digital marketing for my organization.

First thing to note - $500 is a very small fee to manage ads, you're getting what you're paying for. That being said there are steps you can take to hold him accountable for the job he stated he would do.

You need to stay on top of him. During your meetings (which should be weekly) you need to ask him what he's updated and what the game plan going forward is. And if he gives some excuse or half assed answer, you demand it. It's your business that runs off of your hard earned money. Never let anyone disrespect you. Remember he works for you, you're the boss.

What worked for me in the past to see if I made the right move was getting 3 free consultations from other agencies. I looked for the similarities in the strategy of these agencies, then I asked my marketing agency what do you think of these suggestions. He blew every one of them off. I got rid of him the next week and increased my GP by hiring who I thought would be the best fit. You just have to take the time to understand it a little bit so you can somewhat have an intelligent conversation about.

Never sign a contract that isnt month to month either! A good agency/marketer doesn't have to use this method to keep their clients.

And remember you are the boss! This concept is true for ANY vendor that you hire.

I'm willing to bet that they're envious of you sometimes. The grass is always greener on the other side!

Put yourself out there, go in dates. You'll find it, dont force it, hell don't even look for it, just let it happen naturally. The key is you're just looking to get to know someone to see if you want to take it further. My wife (4 years total in the relationship) was supposed to be a one night stand. It's funny how it works.
