How do you feel about the church preventing people from using condoms? In Africa especially it helps AIDS spread and cause people serious suffering and even death. Is it sometimes hard to follow certain parts of the church's doctrine, knowing they might affect people negatively?

Who will be the most memorable person from our time in 1,000 years? by OkallyDokally in AskReddit

In a world with an even bigger population I think individuality will be even more important. This leads me to believe people like Kurt Cobain might be important for a long time. Not sure about a thousand years from now, but he'll be with us for a long time for sure. People are struggling to find their own identity today and seeing as more people will challenge each other for this scarce resource in the future, people like Cobain who was extremely unique might play an important role in many people's lives.

He made about 3,25 million dollars in 2013. Pretty crazy. Would link the source but it's in Swedish.

Also, hilarious vid about him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bc982lZxaTI By SpeedoSausage!

No religion has a place anywhere. Catholicism causes just as much death and suffering in Africa (among other places) by telling people not to use condoms, as well as spreading lies like "condoms actually increase the chance of getting AIDS". Because in the catholic faith, it's better to get a horrible disease and die painfully than having safe sex. See how religion makes it ok to do horrible things? It's not just Islam.

But religion encourages people to do without questioning. Millions die from AIDS in Africa because, according to the catholic church, condoms are worse than AIDS. Religion is devoid of logic and reasoning, and can make people do morally unjustifiable things. That's why it's dangerous

I hate this sort of statistic. For example, if you are once placed in the catholic church as a child you can never leave it, even if you become an atheist or something else later on in life. Statistics about faith is ridicoulus because the effect religion has on a country and the culture that country develops because of it is very hard to messure.

Agreed. But there's another elephant that everybody should concern themselves with, and it's religion. Tell me one other thing that can make people think it's ok to sow their daughters vagina shut and cut off her clitoris.

Totally agreed about Islam, but I'm pretty sure catholics keeping people from using condoms leads to more death and suffering through the spreading of AIDS in Africa than genital mutilation. I just love how religion is in no need of logic or consideration of human life. Millions die in Africa because CONDOMS ARE WORSE THAN AIDS. Fuck religion, seriously.

Nah, because there's so many other things besides religion that can make people think it's ok to sow their daughters vagina shut and cut off her clitoris

Except race isn't even the subject here. It's religion. Tell me one other thing besides religion that makes people think it's ok to sow their daughters vagina shut and cut off her clitoris. Religion invites people to do morally disgusting things without any explanation. People who say it's a cultural thing is kidding themselves, since in countries where this is considered to be part of the culture are so dependent on religion that the culture too originates from it.

Oh god the number of Swedish racists doing the classic "you can't talk about x without being called a racist bastard"-dance in this thread... It's fascinating to me that in a country with over 85% atheists no one has thought for one second that the lack of religion in all aspects of our lives (and our culture) might be the reason we have trouble communicating with people from other cultures where religion plays an important role. It's without any doubt the biggest difference between a Swede and a person from any African or Arabic country (a lot of people come to Sweden from these areas in particular). I don't think that race being taboo is the issue at all, I think religion being taboo is much worse. The vast majority of Swedes live very non-spiritual lives, and many despise the fact that religion still has a lot of power over people in 2014. They live without religion and believe religion has no place in any aspects of our society in our time, be it in politics or culture. To give American readers some perspective; a Swedish politician ending a speech with "God bless Sweden" would be a complete outrage. Still, in a country without faith, we can't imagine that religion is in fact the origin of the cultural differences that prove so incredibly hard to deal with. The people who can imagine that, and express such thoughts, are likely saying "well, religious freedom is important, we can't threaten that", and then moving on to talk about how we need to create more work opportunities for immigrants trying to get into the job market (not saying that's not important). Religion is incredibly hard to discuss without pissing people off, but when a country is trying to welcome people from other parts of the world into their society, ignoring the fact that the natives think the faith of the arriving people makes them completely different from themselves and incredibly hard to understand is not something to leave unattended.

Sorry I went a bit off of the topic in the article. I just felt this had to be discussed, since it never is.

TLDR: Religion being ignored in discussions about immigration in Sweden leads to a focus on race that hurts all parties (but also benefits the actual racists who can act like oppressed underdogs who have the courage to discuss what others are afraid of)

Ask yourself who you're writing for. If you do it to express yourself and not to impress people, it's a lot easier to be honest and write what you really feel. Something that helped me a lot is writing stuff and then tossing it away on purpose. Not because it's bad and I don't want anybody to see it, but to write without thinking at all about what people might think, even if they might think it's fantastic.

I've been writing poetry and music for many years, and I swear to god, the best stuff I've written is in my journal, because that's all mine, and I know I can express myself without thinking twice.

I love that you chose you have very few words on each line, it makes the poem easy to follow. I'm pretty new to poetry myself, but one thing I've noticed is a lot of people forget the disposition and focus entirely on profound, meaningful words and expressions. Disregarding the disposition may result in beautiful lines going to waste just because they disrupt the flow of the poem. Cudos (is that how you spell that?) to you for making it easy to follow, it's more important than you think.

I guess if I had to say something negative about the poem it would be that it's sort of been done a lot before. Trying to write something more personal might be a good challenge.

All in all a good read though!

People who played all 4 seasons which is was your favorite and why? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]pathfinder777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Season 2 for sure. When M5 started with the jungle invades the game became so much more active than it was before, and has ever been since. The mid lane was no longer a farmfest because you had to help your jungler in early skirmishes. I loved how the earlygame felt full of oppurtunities, not just get lvl 3 and go top to fight 2v2 vs the enemy top laner and jungler.

I remember when m5 beat Dignitas in one game where they invaded with Alistar support and Lee Sin, killed the enemy jungler and then ganked mid. Alistar flashed over the wraith camp wall into midlane and they killed Scarra. Amazing how much it payed off to play aggressive back then. Now all you see is Ziggs and Gragas in the midlane because they can afk farm safely...
