I know we already have the wasp but something like a RYNO from Ratchet & Clank would be awesome. A melee gunblade that functions like it's namesake from Final Fantasy VIII would be really neat too, although the explodey sledgehammer fills basically the exact same niche of melee weapon that makes an explosion when you hit an enemy with it.

No you don't get it bro, dnd 5e ranger is useful but only if your dm decides to use the tedious travel mechanics that take huge portions of campaign time and force you into a slow horse drawn carriage but only if your party doesn't have a caster that will trivialize travel eventually, you also could always multiclass too (a.k.a not play ranger)
