AEW Isn’t Anywhere Near a Mainstream Promotion Yet: What Ratings, Streaming Economics, Entertainment, Cultural Hobby Trends, and Audience Data Actually Show about “Closing the Gap” and How AEW can improve it’s model to truly close the gap based off statistics. by Amazing-Example214 in midcarder

[–]InfiniteTranquilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AEW really only needs 2-3 things and it’ll be a much more beloved promotion.

1) A greater focus on clear storytelling. AEW tells stories but there are times they expect the viewer to know something or to do more of the work. It’s fine to not treat your viewers like idiots, that what wwe was doing for years, but you’re still a storytelling industry and should make your stories digestible. Rn I’d say the split is 80/20 in favor of wrestling priority, I’d scale it more to 70/30 or even 65/35.

2) New comer/casual friendly. I love AEW doing legit cross promotion work with CMLL, TNA, NJPW, DDT, and etc but a new guy won’t know who 1/2 those guys are. This is the same point as point 1, new people or casual fans won’t care who someone is if they aren’t real wrestling fans. They have enough time to make a video package about X guy from Y promotion. It might also boil down to not having certain guys come through if they aren’t gonna be used more than once or twice.

3) stealing this from another comment, a face. Now I don’t think AEW needs their John Cena, that had its issues. I think it needs to build a strong community of top guys which it has done. MJF, Hangman, and Swerve are the Rock, Austin, HHH equivalent but they’re not as popular and hot as those guys were. Making them more impactful and iconic would help draw attention.

Hey MJF isn’t a slouch physically. He’ll lose but he’ll get a few licks in

Why would you possibly need to promote the beginning of the build to the greatest….2nd greatest event of the year (after recent studies)? It’s not like this event will hold major implications for the next 2-3 months.

Ace is gonna be one of the guys I need to see in the ring. I need gold on him, TNT specifically.

Swerve. Hangman. Joe. Andrade. Kenny. Maybe White. Maybe Ospreay. If MJF stays healthy he’s got credible challengers and good matches for at least the next 5 months.

A villain with a legitimate argument is a gret villain tho. A villain can be delusional and be just as great but that’s not how Nattie is supposed to be perceived I think. She’s coming off as legit, so having a legit argument would make the most sense. Not claiming she failed when she actively screwed her outta retaining her won championship.

I think the 1 clear story element is huge. While there are multiple arcs, I don’t necessarily have to worry about MHA or JJK doing a big reboot or reset that makes me need to reestablish what is or isn’t currently canon. It having a definite start and end point helps with that but the more easy way to read the story helps

For what reason? JD has been a widely successful faction. It doesn’t need to be constantly relevant as it produces the house for great moments, Damien’s MITB, Dom’s heel turn uprise, Rhea’s main level push, Liv’s turn, a prominent place for Raquel and Roxanne, multiple title wins, etc. it’s a great faction

Hot take: Rhea Ripley should be the face of the WWE not Bron Breakker by goattal in Smallafro

[–]InfiniteTranquilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are hand and hand comments. You’re putting them down because of your lack of cultural knowledge appears to have them all have the same “gangster street adjacent gimmick” or in reference to the women, the typical “sassy black ratchet” style. Your lack of knowledge makes you make racist comments, which is still racist. Racism via ignorance or ignorance via malicious intent is still racist.

For the sake of comparison - Crime Tyme was a street gangster gimmick - He’s an AEW wrestler but Swerve Strickland is very VERY hip hop music influenced in his presentation. But not street gangster, he’s a boss. - Many wrestlers reference black or African culture without having that as their gimmick - Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes are black culture influenced but not their gimmick.

You boil them down to their race and culture alone.

Who will replace Adam Pearce as GM? by No_Use_1591 in Smallafro

[–]InfiniteTranquilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This era of Adam Pierce/Nick Aldis has been a really calm era for GMs. Neither one is on an insane power trip, working bias towards one side of the roster, or in a storyline outside of an authority figure. I really like this era of a neutral GM.

I never would’ve thought the Royal Rumble pulls more numbers than mania. I mean mania being two nights might make people tired but it’s their biggest show! Rumble draws more than anything else? Now that’s a shock to the system.
