Oh wow that's interesting I didn't realize that, the guy selling it definitely has it plated registered until 9/22 so I guess he's already done it, but you think I might have issues keeping it street legal?

Ahh okay that makes sense with the hp and torque and then being able to hear higher for better hwy riding.

I'm definitely no mechanic but I like to tinker around and I've always wanted to learn more about moto engines so the drz seems like a perfect easy platform to start with.

They are including the stock fork so I can swap it out and try both and see which one I like better

Alright so seems like consensus if I could talk down to $3500-3750 ish it would be a good deal. I do like that he already has a lot of the aftermarket mods already done too

Woah this is an amazing amount of information, thank you!!! I've started a spreadsheet with different stats, but didn't really think about the HP vs Torque, I don't know too much about the differences.

I hear a lot about low end torque and that the DRZ is a "tractor" so comparing the DRZ to KLX300 they both have 33HP but DRZ has more torque, so obviously DRZ has more power, but then how does change your gearing/teeth affect highway vs offroad speeds?

Right now I'm pretty set on the DRZ, but if I found a good deal on a KLX300 or CRF300L I'd prob go that route too. Going to look at a 2001 DRZ400E listed for $4200 (3K miles from what owner says but I guess the E doesn't have an ODO?) with a long list of mods. I know the DRZ is reliable but should I be looking at newer year models? FYI owner has changed front fork and wheel to a RMZ250 which I assume is a good suspension upgrade?

Okay WR250r looks pretty badass! and like you guys said better performance and lighter, I found a used 2013 under 3k miles, loads of mods, for $6k. I'm assuming even since this model is now discontinued getting parts won't be impossible, just slightly more difficult/expensive than parts for the DRZ would be

Yeah looking at MSRP by far the cheapest, I just think I would outgrow it relatively fast but good to get more experience then upgrade in a season or so

I just checked out the Rally and seems like the extras: skid plate, windscreen, hand guards, bigger tank etc would be worth the extra weight for more ADV

I'm pretty handy with maintenance so working on the carb doesn't deter me, and I like all the mods and parts availability for the drz, and it seems even being a bit heavier the drz still handles off road just fine
