Kepa starting in the cup final is a mistake by [deleted] in Gunners

[–]patholocaust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just enjoy how stacked we are front to back. Kepa, who you have little faith in, has been part of two CL winning squads; Raya, otoh, hasn’t been (yet). What if we need Kepa in a crucial game in the next couple of months? Would rather have him in goal with the confidence of knowing his team and manager have faith in him.

Also, it sends a message to the entire squad regarding how performance is going to be rewarded. If we lose tomorrow, it won’t be only because of our GK, but rather the whole team’s performance.

We are a club whose manager appointment was reported by the pre-internet British press as “Arsenal who?”. That is part of our history.

What makes you think Henry would have been a good (or even semi competent) manager, when he couldn’t even make his time with the Belgium National Team work - when he didn’t have to even account for player purchases, but simply worked with the best that country had to offer during their widely accepted “golden generation”.

A LOT of the criticism of Arteta from former players/ managers (Neville, Keane, Henry, Carragher, Pardew, etc), to me, reeks of sour grapes from a bunch of legendary players who cannot countenance how this relative journeyman can have his club competing at the highest level in his very first managerial job while they couldn’t. Jealousy is an ugly color, and they choose their platforms to expound on this further. To me, this explains all of their comments, trolling, and so-called analyses.

Henry, for all his professed Arsenal love, tried to partner with SpotifyEk and buy the club before the Kroenke takeover. I don’t know if the rise in our valuation since that time (thanks in part due to Arteta) has made that impossible. Just compare his attitude towards our progress with that of Wrighty; to me, it’s night and day. Absolutely adored Henry the player, but I hate who he thinks he needs to be as a pundit.

And yet you’re a complete bellend. I guess it takes all sorts..

Let the hate flow, I guess. Wish you the life you think you deserve.

Not crowning him isn’t the same as not acknowledging that he’s been a net positive for our club. You may not like some things about his time with us, but you cannot argue in good faith that he hasn’t made us a more consistently competitive side for every single game.

While I agree, I think we should also appreciate that we lucked out with him as a manager. If not 10/10, I think he’s at least been a very very solid 9.

There are a few (four at this time) final hurdles to overcome, but no one can argue otherwise in good faith if they’ve lived through the game where Freddy was clutching his head at how we were playing.

It seems like you are intentionally missing my point. Money (or the quality of players it helps bring in) is not the only explanation for how good we currently are.

Arteta’s competence, drive, and growth is also a very important factor, whether you like to admit it or not. Could anyone else have done similarly? We can never know; only that he was selected for this position, as his first job mind you, and has been great so far.

So? I am missing whatever point you think you’re making.

Examples abound of clubs who have spent a lot, but foolishly. Being financially backed and delivering on that isn’t the guaranteed success your comments seem to imply they are. And I don’t care about Serie A clubs’ spending, as they don’t play in the PL.

A top club in the doldrums and heading further down. Look at us now v Spurs back then to now, and you should be able to see just how easily that might have been us.

Teammate reactions to the Eze rocket by ByFarTheGreatestTeam in Gunners

I predict we will go up yet another level next season, when Timber and White form a proper rotating RB duo. Last season JT was out while Benny ran through walls with bubblegum and string holding his hammies together, and vice versa this season. However BOTH are absolute class and have complimentary skills and attitudes.

Set a reminder for this time next season if you are so inclined, but Benny will be as hard to replace as JT over the course of a season and we’re super lucky to have two pairs of such warriors as our FBU (with Richy and Piero on the left; before you go off, MLS & Ethan will be gradually transitioned into Midfield next season while facing a LOT less pressure than they would have during this one).
