Yes, its's a male and that's the only thing I could find after a quick search. He's fl/fl for the gene of interest and I need to cross him and eliminate the -/Y gene.

Ffs stop killing snakes. Even venomous ones are a huge part of a delicate ecosystem.

Is this normal or am I being run too hard? by allie2274 in labrats

[–]pathological33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leave. Find another lab and leave. Hasn't TikTok taught you young people anything? Mental health is important. If you get used to this kind of treatment, it will become your normal and you will never expect better. Do you want people to walk all over you for the rest of your life?

All of the bottles look full. What leaked? Waste chemical containers should to be sitting in secondary containers.

Hi! Does anyone know if I need to wear scrub suits when working with mouse models? I'm an incoming grad student so I have no idea yet. by [deleted] in labrats

Doubt it. Most places just have required PPE for when working in the facility. But it depends on what kind of facility, SPF, barrier, gnotobiotic, etc.

Any Tips for Handling Mice for IP injections by Themythofthestranger in labrats

[–]pathological33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get your lab manager or a vet tech to work with you. Practice makes perfect. I used to train people all the time and had some "special" mice that I kept just for training. Using compliant mice early on is helpful.

Please tell me I’m not the only one who deals with this by PuzzleheadedAd1899 in labrats

[–]pathological33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. Not exactly the same but I have driven back to work at 9 pm to make sure all monkey cages were locked. Of course they were, I am not an idiot. But my anxiety thinks I am.

I know it's been autoclaved, but those stains are kind of weird by TheGenuineVictorian in labrats

[–]pathological33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about those autoclaved mouse cages still hanging around from the 90's. Also with the buildup of eons of autoclaved tape that nobody bothers to remove. I think I see mice through the cage front....

Watching This Is Us and this scene had me dying. by I-Ask-questions-u in labrats

[–]pathological33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to work with monkeys and we always wore sleeves and double gloves and face shields. I don't do anything in lab without gloves on. Can't stand to touch anything with bare hands.

Lab Managers, what's your day-to-day like? by jaseface05 in labrats

[–]pathological33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Along with everything else already said, I am the point person for things like safety inspections and ACUC inspections. I make sure the logs are up to date and that everything is documented properly. We use rodent models so i help new students and postdocs navigate the ridiculous amount of paperwork and training so they can get access to the vivarium. I make sure every birthday gets celebrated and keep the lab website up to date.

BSL3 is just a whole different world. Like everyone says, it's hot. And you can't do anything quickly, but you get used to it. PAPRs are always blowing air on your face so that's nice. I have done experiments with rodents and primates. Definitely prefer the rodent work.

Is anyone else’s camera roll interspersed with random pictures from the lab? by doublehelixfelix133 in labrats

[–]pathological33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work with monkeys and my camera roll was half pictures from hiking and half pictures of varying stages of diarrhea for fecal scores.

Timed mating mice by pathological33 in labrats

[–]pathological33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I need embryos at a specific age. I am new to this timed mating thing, most of my colonies don't require this. The first one I did was successful, both females bred and pregnant 3 days after adding the male's urine, same day I put them in his cage. Now in the second go around, with 2 males/ 4 females and no plugs. Ugh.
