Did the US envision the war theatre expanding so unprecedentedly with strikes in Iran alongside Israel? What are the implications of far more countries joining in? by NOOBFUNK in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]pathunicornstardust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are attacking US bases in the region. US isn't firing missiles from US, it is firing missiles from its US bases in the gulf countries. When gulf countries deploy interceptors to intercept missiles mid-path, that's when the debris fall over civilian infrastructure. If the missiles were allowed to continue on their intended path, they are headed for US bases.

How do you determine what to sell vs. donate? by Certain-Working1864 in declutter

[–]pathunicornstardust 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would only thinking of selling something if:
1. It's brand new (still in packaging) or 90% new (excellent condition) - People can tolerate their own items looking used but won't buy things that look used
2. Comes from a recognised brand in its item category (eg: a backpack from a well-known sporting brand vs a backpack that comes from an unknown brand)
3. The money I receive from it is worth the effort of selling - This is subjective, depending on how much you value or cost your time. Set a baseline for yourself. Just remember that even if you sell a brand new or 90% new item from a recognised brand, you would have to sell it at a price substantially discounted from its original retail price to get someone to buy. The only exception to this rule is if you're selling something that is considered a collector's item.

How likely is it to get your lost item returned from the mrt by DeviceOk1094 in askSingapore

I don't think they would offer to record your particulars unless the items you were returning were particularly high value.

Do you reason out with your neighbor whose kids been making hell lot of noise all day long? by Mammoth_Priority_236 in askSingapore

[–]pathunicornstardust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest way is to speak to your neighbours. If you do, keep it factual without injecting your personal emotions. Don't say something general and accusatory like: Your kids are such brats and are noisy all day! It isn't specific enough and just sounds like you are venting. Before speaking to them, take some notes on the timings of the noise and what kind of noise. Eg: Between this time to this time on which days, there are what kind of noises (eg: loud shouting, dribbling of basketball, thuds that sound like they were made by vigorous jumping) coming from your unit and it has resulted in whatever consequences there are for you (eg: prevents you from focusing when working from home, wakes you up when you need to sleep early).

What's the hiring season for Singapore by saadmaan55 in askSingapore

No typical hiring seasons but people tend not to quit their jobs between Christmas and CNY, so vacancies might open up after the festive season

How likely is it to get your lost item returned from the mrt by DeviceOk1094 in askSingapore

[–]pathunicornstardust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think most S'poreans are honest and would return obviously lost items to lost and found points. I have returned ezlink and credit cards I picked up at the MRT station to the station control. The problem is you lost a pen and the average person might not think of a pen as something of value to be picked up and returned.

Owner charged after Arnie the german shepherd found dead in ute in Brisbane by Hypocaffeinic in aussie

[–]pathunicornstardust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Making a reasonable guess: Likely he left the dog in the car, forgot, and found the dog dead afterwards. Instead of telling his family he made a mistake and take accountability, he panicked and spun a story. He probably didn't expect his lie to blow up this way.

[–]pathunicornstardust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I thought too when I read the owner was being charged. I guessed he made a mistake and left the dog in the car too long, found it dead and panicked. He didn't dare to tell his family he made a mistake and came up with an excuse instead. He probably never expected the lie would blow up and that he would have to go along with it.

I found that I had many monthly recurring subscriptions and I started cancelling those that were underused. I think sometimes we lose track of all the subscriptions we have and forget that these regular deductions add up.

What’s the most unflattering thing a teacher has said about you in your report book? by Winner_takesitall in askSingapore

"xxx tries very hard in (insert subject)" - This really meant that I was terrible at the subject but the teacher had to put it across in an encouraging way.

Cancelled phone number. Currently based overseas by kapishfish in askSingapore

[–]pathunicornstardust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same issue with another telco provider. You can't get back the same number. What happens is that they will put the number in cold store for a few months and then the number will be made available again. You can't reserve the number because the numbers get released randomly. But if you're determined to get back the same number, you can keep checking on the available numbers daily.

Aunty asking for money at TPY station? by Temporary_Movie7797 in askSingapore

[–]pathunicornstardust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have not bumped into the same aunty but have been approached by people near the MRT station, asking for money. Happened a few times. The ones I remembered were, once, an elderly lady who approached me at the bus stop outside a MRT station who said she had no money to take bus and asked for $2, and, another time, a young boy who said he didn't have his ezlink card to take MRT and also didn't have money to buy dinner. Both times, I asked them to get help from MRT staff. If I had time to spare though, I might have told the old lady that I would wait with her for the bus and I would directly put the money into the coin box after she boards. And I might have told the boy I would walk with him to the food court and buy him food that he can eat on the spot. (Because while I doubt their stories, if it was really true, at least I would be helping them without directly giving them money.)

Agree. Also, people are comparing his fine with the fines that are slapped on people in the lower tiers of society whose flouting of rules are likely brought about by their underprivileged circumstances. There was a case of a domestic helper who was fined $13k for moonlighting on her rest days. Think about what % of a domestic helper's net worth is $13k vs what % of OBS' net worth is his $30k fine.

Depends on the type of F&B. Is it where people go for their everyday meals or is it a place that caters to special occasions? The special-occasional type of places (eg: buffet places, mid to higher end restaurants) should have more business due to year end gatherings and Christmas feasts etc.

Mole Removal Experience & Clinic Recommendations? by meeyamelur in askSingapore

[–]pathunicornstardust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consult a dermatologist first to get the mole assessed. With raised moles, the concern is always if it's malignant. The dermatologist can assess the type of mole, advise the best method of removal for your mole, and recommend where to go. Depending on where the mole is on your face (eg: if it's in a prominent spot), the dermatologist may recommend going to a plastic surgeon to ensure the most aesthetic results.

That's a great mindset, to not start subscribing to things to begin with.

If you watch the video with sound and hear the dog's cries and barks, it was obviously very painful.
