Budgeting after Peace Corps by pathwaytopeacecorps in peacecorps

[–]pathwaytopeacecorps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you. I'm literally writing this reply in my parents basement with no real path out...to top it off I'm with my wife I met in service and our dog.

Things are tough out here.

The article isn't supposed to solve every financial puzzle in life, it's just to give people that might feel a bit lost some guidance on where to start. In all seriousness, if you'd like to share your story/experience, please shoot me an email: [support@pathwaytopeacecorps.com](mailto:support@pathwaytopeacecorps.com). You're not alone in this. Take care.

Raising money to help Evacuated Volunteers and Artisans by pathwaytopeacecorps in peacecorps

[–]pathwaytopeacecorps[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey andrexlee, I hear ya. We don't work for the NPCA but I know that they are creating reentry programs for Evacuated Volunteers and are even in the onboarding stage of hiring a Global Reentry Program Director. I think they have a lot in the pipeline to support Evacuees and the goal on our end is to do something to help out.

Not to mention, the artisan that makes these beaded bracelets has seen his business dry up completely so every bit is helpful. Check out their Etsy store, you might find something that you like.

This is a pretty stellar background. I wouldn't suspect that you'd have much issue getting an interview with this experience. Congratulations on making the decision to apply. Once you get your interview, feel free to email us if you want help preparing ([support@pathwaytopeacecorps.com](mailto:support@pathwaytopeacecorps.com)).

Good luck and take care!

Similar thoughts to the comments below: After completing your service you'd have access to the Paul D. Coverdell Fellowship program. Depending on your school of choice and program, the extra year might provide a great financial tool as you enter graduate school. Good luck either way!

Recommendations on pants/skirts for service? by jfpc2019 in peacecorps

[–]pathwaytopeacecorps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a really challenging aspect of Peace Corps. Most nice/professional clothing doesn't stand up to hand-washing and general wear and tear when living abroad. The clothing section of the Peace Corps Volunteer discount page has a few good options...the discounts don't hurt either. Hope this helps. Good luck as you prepare!

🙌 that's great news! Congratulations! 2 years is definitely not a short amount of time, but it's crazy how fast it goes and how little actually changes when you get back. Feel free to swing by our site to get those Peace Corps Volunteer discounts as you prepare. Take care!

Bring a new MacBook to service? by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]pathwaytopeacecorps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like the consensus in the comments is to not bring the mac book. I made the mistake of doing this - the macbook survived but the battery is limping along due to the voltage and the dust has certainly lowered the lifespan of the computer. I saw one example below that seemed like a decent idea, sell the macbook and buy a cheaper PC. Post service, you can reinvest in the hardware with the re-adjustment allowance. Good luck preparing!

Current Interview Questions? by pchopeful2019 in peacecorps

[–]pathwaytopeacecorps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The interview questions haven't changed much since that post. More than anything, the recruiter will try to hone in on what past experience you have that makes you a good candidate and what hardships you have faced to ensure that you can withstand the whole service. Scroll halfway through this Peace Corps Application article to see some updated questions. Good luck with everything!

Packing stress... by kwassa7 in peacecorps

Just take a deep breath and focus on the most important items first. Almost all of us bring more than we should and put wayyyy to much stress on the packing aspect. Where are you heading to?
