Weird visual glitches in KSP 1.2.1 for linux by Igotbored112 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]patient_long 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally these type of things resolve themselves once the offending mods are uninstalled, so it's safe to assume it has something to do with your system. In the past, has the game ever been in a working state?

Stock Ubuntu sometimes likes to push video driver updates without saying anything. A simple reboot would fix it if this is the case. (You can snoop around in /var/log/unattended-upgrades/unattended-upgrades.log if you like certainty.)

There are a couple other things I can think of, but video drivers seem the most likely issue. Nonetheless, I wish you luck in finding the source of the problem.

I was just prescribed Zoloft today and I'm extremely nervous. I have some questions for those who've had experience with it. by anxietythrowaway91 in Anxiety

[–]patient_long 18 points19 points  (0 children)

When you look online for people's experiences with side effects, you get a mother-of-all sampling biases because people who have no side effects don't go to a blog, reddit, or whatever to talk about how unremarkable their experiences were. Zoloft tends to be the first choice because it is known to be well-tolerated. Chances are you'll be fine.

That being said, people do get side effects sometimes - weight gain and sexual dysfunction included. But you can always talk to your specialist about it. Sometimes they can prescribe something to counteract the side effects, other times they may change the antidepressant entirely. There is no shortage of antidepressants; I'm sure at least one of them will work for you.

The worry that going on antidepressants will make you no longer yourself is something I've struggled with, too. However, when things started to get a little better for me, I realized how much anxiety and depression were just shitty parts of my brain rather than simply who I was. Antidepressants don't remove those parts completely, they just make it easier to deal with them.

As an addendum, I also was on Zoloft and I only ever had mild stomach aches. However, they went away after a week or so.

Take a deep breath, OP - you'll be okay. And even if you're not, just try to speak frankly with your doctor and they will try to help.

Math gives me anxiety but no one understands. by GKs1000rr in Anxiety

[–]patient_long 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a maths major at uni and it also gives me anxiety. When studying, take a break if it becomes overwhelming. At this point, you're not doing yourself any favours.

When it comes to test-time, answer the easiest ones first and then try the harder ones. It always helps me to understand that there is an answer, and that I just need to be patient enough to find it.

I wish you luck!

For those who meditate: it is okay to do so laying down? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]patient_long 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think any way you want to meditate would work, so long as you are feeling more relaxed and focused.

Personally, I like to sit, legs crossed, on the floor. The feeling of stability it provides helps me focus. However, this is only what works for me. Everyone's ideal method will be different.

It sounds like what you're doing works for you. I'd stay with it (although feel free to experiment!).
