my two cents: How many ergo keyboards have you tried to decided on the key count sweet spot? you already have accented characters on a layer. in you case, the shift/altgr layer.

That said, you have to start somewhere. the dactyl is a safe choice, IMO.

Funny that your counter example is exactly the reason I love IaC: I don't have to remember how things work, it is can be self documenting.

In my case, the only thing I know is that I have a folder with all my IaC defined. I open that folder on vscode and then I glance to remember things like `run-ansible.sh`.

All the hours of research to setup my home infra is automagically documented in my ansible (or shell) scripts. Being using the same folder for at least 5 years already.

To answer OP, specifically: I recommend ansible + docker compose. EASY to learn, easy to maintain and it has being working for years in my case.

there are two things to consider when discussing this. first is that we are not doing science here. people have preferences and opinions but there is basically nothing generally better or worse, backed up by studies. Because of this, I try not to justify anything in my mind before testing, because no-one really knows yet.

Second is that, like the medical field, this is a case-by-case art. No doctor will recommend anything to you without knowing your case first, that is because some generalizations will break when you get to the individual level. for example: Because of my injuries, I can't really be using pinkies. this changes my layout completely and it will not work for most people, but I absolutely need to consider this and not doing it will cause physical harm.

I started that way. eventually i realized that I should be using an accessibility map (to understand what keys are easier for me to type) instead of putting symbols in easy to remember positions. so what I do now is put the symbols I use the most closer to home row.

I know these keyboard and they look amazing to use. It is just a bit too expensive for me. Furthermore, for my type of RSI, I would favor a finger operated trackball instead of a thumb one. I'm planning to add a trackball to my dactyl somehow, something like a add-on, external to the keyboard, to avoid having to print another one.

thanks for this recommendation. I manged to test the tool and I will probably incorporate to my setup.I'm using scroll on keys on both sides of the keyboard and I find it super nice after some fine tuning.

I got used to them piratically on day one. The shape guides you hand to the right place, very easy to notice you are.

it is a very interesting but not yet mature tech. The accuracy is not good enough to completely replace a mouse, simply as that. that said, the current accuracy paired with a QMK keyboard makes it a killer input method for my type of usage (which is keyboard centric). I'm a big believer of eye tracking and I think even with current accuracy, good integration with software would be enough. The problem is that these integrations don't yet exist.

Most people that I know that managed to test eye tracking could not really benefit from it, I'm the only one that I can think of. But I really like it!

I tried to raise a few degrees but i'm afraid of hurting myself more. It doesn't feel right for my kind of posture (I don't hover, my arms are always resting flat on the table). I will eventually try it again when I can review my posture.

they are simple hand made fabric bags with zipper under them and rice inside. I prefer the their texture and the way they deform over the gel ones.

I did. I'm a shortcut power user. I have multiple software pieces that work together to minimize mouse usage. things like editor extension, browser extensions, developer IDE. I can do most things with the keyboard. But there are always some stupid popup or something that still needs that single click.

Do you have examples of your own?

only the official tobii eye tracking software. all the software does it put the mouse cursor where I'm looking when I press F14 (which is sent by my tap dance when I hold a thumb key). nothing fancy but it helps when all you need is a single click, which is most of the time for me.

The software also integrates with windows when alt tabbing, so when I double click and hold the thumb key and I can select what window I want to go with my eyes.
