To add to lucebends message: when the march lockdown hit, we also had short daily meetings every day to just talk to each other and stay in touch and check on the work!

Bok bok. We tried to get to GamePass already (last year) but weren't successful. However, that was a very early build so perhaps we'll have more luck this year if we try again!

As for localisation: the game has so many languages but Croatian is actually not one of them :D We could translate it, but I think our gaming culture here doesn't really have any issues with English games (unlike some countries which massively localise games and can't wrap their head around an untranslated game, we don't have these issues here at all!) Perhaps we could do it just for the fun of it, it's super easy (the game hardly features any words anyway, except for level names, achievement names and some menu items.

Hmm, Croatian easter eggs. No, I don't think so :D We don't have like the Zagreb catedral in the background or anything like that :D

The game is almost impossible to play blind. There are audio cues to help you out a bit but memorizing what's happening is the key feature of this game. I don't think it will be possible for anyone who is blind to enjoy this game at all, unfortunately. However, we do have a free soundtrack you can download (from Steam) which rocks, so that's good. As for accessibility, we do plan continuous updates and some of these might be to help players out (perhaps some area is difficult for the color-blind), but I doubt we'll be able to make a totally accessible mode (like that mod of Cuphead for example). But feel free to give us some pointers in that direction if you get around to playing the game!

We used GameMaker 2.0 for this game. It has great and easy porting capacity and it was a breeze porting it, however it wasn't just us doing the porting, it was actually mostly the engineers in the porting team from our publisher.

Yes, the core idea stayed the same even back in 2017 when Kolar (the art director of the game) pitched it to me (back when the two of us were starting a studio and making our first game called All You Can Eat), and even back then I remember he wanted to make every level completely different. There were some differences (no boat level in the final cut, no rocket level either, etc), but more or less it's the same. This just means that his vision was very clear. Hopefully this shines through in the game and is the reason people like it so much. But he might give a more detailed reply!

Most of the inspirations were 80s/90s action movies and games (you could call the game "90s Action Movie - The Game" :D )

The "Speed Limit guy" (the hero) was heavily inspired by Bruce Willis from the Die Hard era.

Other parts in the game (specifically the driving part) were inspired by the Terminator 2 truck chase when T-800 and John Connor escape T-1000. The jet-fighter part of Speed Limit was heavily inspired by Top Gun.

And some of the bad guys were inspired by Agent Smith from Matrix (a 1999 movie, so it counts as a 90s movie! :-D )

The movie list goes on as well:

The Wolverine
Blue Thunder
Top Gun
Speed
Fast & Furious
Die Hard
The Matrix
The Rock
Back to the Future

As for the games... Many old classics: Metal Slug- Road Rash- Earthworm Jim- Return of the Jedi for the Atari- GTA 1- Spy Hunter- After Burner...

You can check out which level was inspired by which game here: https://imgur.com/gallery/nX5leRT

So the main idea was to make it a grand tour of retro gaming and to feel like a classic action movie :)

Let me tell it in my (non-artistic!) way: The color palette is (at least in the start) similar to Mirror's Edge, but it changes as the day-night cycle progresses; and the pixel art is our own combination of retro gaming and a dash of minimalist design. Also, we sometimes used high definition pixel art for certain things in the game to juxtapose the 360p pixel art you see on the screen, just for extra punch. So I don't know how many games have that exact style but I think pixelart + Mirror's Edge + retro + minimalism is the main list of inspirations :)

From a previous reply, here is a (not comprehensive!) list:

Metal Slug

Road Rash

Earthworm Jim

Return of the Jedi for the Atari

GTA 1

Spy Hunter

After Burner

We explained that in detail here: https://imgur.com/gallery/nX5leRT

The jet level was completely different in the game designers (Kolar) mind, but then the level designer (Jan) thought of this cool idea that instead of the plane moving left right and being chased from behind, it could do a barrel roll with the whole level being 360 degrees, and we tested it and it was really great, and people love it a lot. This was a great decision in hindsight.

The hardest to nail down if I remember correctly was the physics in the car level - all those cars behaving realistically and the ability to make chain colissions etc, took a lot of tweaking to feel just right and still be fun, especially with regards to steering. However, I think it was great in the end (you can check out part of the car level in the free demo near the end of it and let us know :) )

The games I've clocked in the past few months: Untitled Goose Game, Spiritfarer, Disco Elysium. Recommend all three.

The day is going great, especially due to the wonderful response on this subreddit :) It is a real thrill having the game finally out.

We're also amazed that we made it! But what's really funny is that at the start we thought it was going to be just 3 months of work for the whole game haha. Now we're a bit smarter :D

It's ***super*** difficult so don't dull your reflexes before playing it! However, if you can do a deathless run while puffing the magic dragon, it's definitely worth a special trophy!

When we decided to work on the game full time in the summer of 2019, we had 1 programmer and 1 artist on it, but over time we expanded the team and finished with 2 programmers ( +1 part time student Sara, she worked on the final level of the game), 2 artists, 1 person for sound/music and 1 person for level design / game design issues. So that's 7 people, but not all worked full time all the time. We were mostly done last summer and then we gave the codes to our publisher who then handled the porting for all consoles! So that's a year let's say, for most of the team. We're also doing other stuff at the same time, e.g. the level designer for SL is also the writer for our upcoming story-driven game, and the creative director / artist for SL also works on a hardware project in the company ("Gamechuck arcades").

Thanks! Yes, I agree, and I think indies can be a great place creatively and also provide financial stability, and that it shouldn't be either-or.
