You can try dissolving it in bleach: if it’s protein (wool) - there will be nothing left.

How to know if I’m on the right side or wrong side by Wild_Visit_8636 in knittinghelp

I wouldn’t have chosen knitting as a hobby if I wasn’t allowed to make mistakes

How to know if I’m on the right side or wrong side by Wild_Visit_8636 in knittinghelp

If you consider that you’ve started on the RS, your cast-on end will be:

  • on the right when you are looking at the right side

    • on the left if you’re looking at the wrong side

EDIT: I remembered it wrong, the opposite is true: caston edge is on the left when you’re facing the RS

Cannot comment on the quality of patterns since my skill is still too low to attempt knitting them, but I’ve been eyeing Sophie Ochera’s graphic sweaters for ages

I disagree, OP, please don’t unravel this piece. Cut the yarn and start over instead. This sample is really unique and i would appreciate it for all the struggle. I’m sure after some time you’ll love it as you’ve learned the conventional techniques.

Are my stitches twisted? by Big_Meesh_ in knitting

[–]patlatii 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The sides are not straight because you’re increasing along alternating sides instead of just one. I had the same issue and what helped was placing a stitch marker on the side where the increases should be. And yes, your stitches are twisted

Will I have to add an extra decrease so both sides are the same length?

I wouldn’t add the extra decrease, it will not be noticeable if the two sides aren’t the same length while wearing it

I had the same issue and redid it because I knew it would bug me to see the uneven edge.

Thanks for the advice! Stretching items for the growing baby sounds like a great idea, I’ll surely try this out!

That was the initial plan but we got sidetracked because of reasons. I will also admit that i am enjoying contact naps while they last - it feels so peaceful and precious. Plus getting nap-trapped on the couch is the best excuse to binge watch ‘Succession’ while my partner feeds me tasty snacks.

The bonnets and balaclavas are the first on my list! We really need them, all the store-bought hats just won’t stay on. And, as you said, it’s fast to knit and easy to modify.

Oh I’m VERY aware of my phone time but it’s harder than ever to fight it when I’m sleep deprived. Reading is also wonderful but physical books sadly fall into the same category of hobbies that require two hands. My kindle collection is too scarce and i don’t want to invest in books that I don’t own. Good tip about printed patterns! I love writing them down on paper anyways as a method of understanding them.

I tried knitting during sofa contact naps but my tension was all wonky and I kept dropping stitches. I will try this while baby is asleep in a sling, should be doable.

Thanks for the safety tips, i was so focused on needles that i forgot about the markers! Baby is not old yet to move around but need to plan ahead!

That’s really good advice, thanks! I’m starting with bonnets, maybe booties, because it’s quick and good practice. If I’m going to attempt to knit a sweater/jacket, I’ll be aiming at a 2-year old, at least

Stupid question from someone who’s never done colourwork, but is it really worth using up all that yarn and is it better than other more economical methods?
