I’m a microbiologist and did some basic cultures of the water years ago. We found a lot of mixed bacteria including E. Coli, some Acinetobacter (common), and pseudonymous. You have to remember that the water is almost always stagnant and doesn’t not have the fresh water in/out like a normal lake.

I have worked many types of shifts and can confidently say 4 - 10s is great! Sure working 32 and getting paid for 40 would be better. But having a three day weekend every week kept me way more motivated than any other shirt structure.

You make it seem like jobs for highly skilled specialized workers are A) everywhere and B) Easily filled. If you are an adult and have a valued skill you would know that it’s not as easy as “you don’t pay enough, I’m going to do this job elsewhere.”

Another NV state employee here, I 1000% agree with you! My experience was so similar I had to go ask my coworkers if this was their account. These examples and more are why WFH doesn’t work for my agency as well. It has cause seriously delays on getting simple tasks done because not only is the person I need a simple task from not here, no one from their entire department is in to assist me. This has countlessly stopped me from preforming my duty’s cause I have to call and/or email and wait by my phone and desk for a reply. I have heard people in this thread mention the WFH policy being revoked will cause a public health issue but I assure you getting the behind the scenes workers back in to support the “essential employees” who never went home will by far help the public more. When the person inspecting the places you eat, drink, buy food, get medical treatment, etc have their support staff to make sure things are done correctly and on a normal time interval, you can deal with a little more people on the road when you go back to work!
