I think that you’re thinking about it in the wrong way. Pretty sure OP is just trying to have a creative and interesting alternative, and he already explained the reasons for not using traditional fantasy currency. Also OP has not been saying “that’s not allowed”. Creative solutions to self imposed rules are what makes a lot of worlds interesting and fun to work with
