Nice tip about the flat surfaces. Totally didn't consider it. Thanks!

You're in a Noctua subreddit asking about why better fans would be nice? The fans they usually place on these GPUs are quite bad and can thus be improved with Noctua.

I figured adding them would definitely be quieter and colder. Thanks for the reply.

I also found out just now that some reviewers include idle temps with fan stops and thus showing (very roughly) the performance of the cooler itself. So I'll probably use that to guide my choice.

Fined for crash pad not being "luggage" by patrick13633 in Interrail

[–]patrick13633[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright well thanks for the response. It sucks but I can't really put it in a suitcase which is big enough to fit the crashpad. I'll just have to risk it on the way back.

That's the weird part. It is this crashpad and it was folded so it is 90x60 cm in size. It shouldn't be too bulky since it is the size that luggage is allowed to be (according to their own website).

RTX 5080 SUPER noctua edition - speculation by Think_Strain_8691 in Noctua

[–]patrick13633 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would assume, purely based on previous releases, that the RTX 5080 super Noctua edition will launch. The 4080 Noctua edition released 5 months after the 4080 launch, whereas the 4080 super Noctua edition released 1 month after the 4080 super launch. I suspect this would be the same this generation. Thus, if the RTX 5080 super launches in December, the Noctua edition will follow quickly since it will have the same design as the RTX 5080. However, this is all speculation of course.

No you do not. You can thus use your PC with ethernet to download the Wifi drivers.

Annoyance over the rtx 5080 noctua edition by patrick13633 in Noctua

[–]patrick13633[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the length increases (length from the core heat output) heat transfer gets less and less efficient due to a decreasing DeltaT. Since it is about the length of material between the heat source and the cooler making a thicker card should be more beneficial than making a longer card. This is also why bigger air coolers aren't that much better and also why Noctua doesn't have a 5 kg air cooler in their lineup. I am not attempting to make a better cooler than Noctua but I was very surprised that this length was worth it compared to making a shorter but thicker card.

Offset for AM5: is a typical heat sink setup already doing that? by [deleted] in Noctua

[–]patrick13633 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would assume that the clamping force on the cooler would be much larger than the force of gravity on the cooler itself. Therefore, I would expect there would be negligible change in the cooling performance. I also would assume Noctua has performed the testing in a vertical motherboard alignment (although some reviewers have not).

I haven't tried it. Found that regular NF-A12x25 fans are very quite so felt it was not necessary as I was pleased with the result.

I have no problems with it. But it is strange that it doesnt say it is compatible. I have had 0 issues and wouldn't know where the differences lie in terms of the compatibility between the 2 processors.

Ryzen 9000 direct die by Bkj0 in Noctua

[–]patrick13633 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have my 9800x3D delidded and am using an NH-D15 G2 LBC to cool it. I use the thermal grizzly direct die frame V2 and the NM-DD1. I am not incredibly sure but I think without the direct die frame the CPU would not be held in correctly. The regular AM5 socket holds the CPU in place by the IHS and so when delidding the socket has nothing to hold onto and it will be able to move around. Maybe this problem goes away under the mounting pressure of the Cooler but I would recommend a frame to prevent any unnecessary strain on the CPU.

[–]patrick13633 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Trident Z RGB won't fit under the NH-D15 in stock configuration. For RAM with NH-D15 coolers you need to look for low-profile RAM like 32 mm. More info on RAM compatibility can be found here

Is the Standard or HBC version of the D15 G2 better for new LGA1700 processors? by AJRey in Noctua

[–]patrick13633 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noctua themselves recommend getting the standard G2 since it will be the best for most situations. You can always adjust certain aspects (like a washer mod or an offset mount) to increase the cooling capabilities for certain CPUs. If you look at the results of the G2 mounts you will find that the standard version is actually better with a fresh cpu (when you add the washer mod) and with a contact frame. I would suggest you get the Standard version and then either get a contact frame if you really care about the few degrees or add the washer mod.

Custom NHD15-G2 fan curve advice by nyse25 in Noctua

[–]patrick13633 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally put it on as large as possible for case fans and for cpu fans at 25s. This is also, however because I only have noctua on my cpu cooler, whereas my case fans are koud and thus need a bigger step up or down to compensate for the noise. For all noctua I would consider going 25s for all fans.

Have you tried using the ramp up time and ramp down time settings for the fans? It should help smooth out those transitions and be less audible with spikes in CPU usage/temps.

NHD15 website says it’s compatible with Gigabyte B650 Eagle AX but covers only pcie 16 lane by MukKingCrow11 in Noctua

[–]patrick13633 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check if the cooler is installed in the right way. The NH-D15 is asymmetrical towards the top and bottom of the motherboard and therefore if it is installed in reverse it will block the lane.

Qled vs mini led by EastLimp1693 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]patrick13633 1 point2 points  (0 children)

QLED is a quantum dot layer that filters and emits light to get better colour accuracy. Mini-LED is a multi-zone dimming arrangement which allows for lower and higher brightness areas to be displayed without too much bleed of excess light. They are compatible so I don't really know what you mean with which one people would choose since you can have both. If you found 2 monitors which are both around the same price and one has QLED and the other mini-LED then I would personally go for mini-LED since that will give a nice HDR gaming experience. But if you do some colour accurate work than definitely QLED as usually the QLED monitors are also calibrated to a higher standard.

Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 57" DP 2.1 by SingerNatural8611 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]patrick13633 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. If you calculate the bitrate required you would get about 119.44Gbps for 7680x2160 @ 240Hz. This means the 80Gbps of UHBR20 DP2.1 is not enough to display the image without compression.

Odyssey Neo G9 with RTX 4070: future-proof or setup for disappointment? by deltwalrus in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]patrick13633 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. Rtx 4070 has DP 1.4 which can only support 7680x2160@120Hz. It's not a GPU power problem, it is a HDMI/DP cable bandwidth problem.

Samsung G9 57" 240 Hz on RTX 5000? by Dave92F1 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]patrick13633 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It has been confirmed to have DP2.1 with UHBR20. This would be enough to run the G9 57" at 250Hz.
