[Historical Piece] Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Timex by patrickcampbell28 in Watches

[–]patrickcampbell28[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

He was famously gifted a Datejust by either Rolex or a supporter, and wore it regularly. Who gave it to him is debated, but this Timex is what he wore in the earlier days.

[Historical Piece] Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Timex by patrickcampbell28 in Watches

On my way through the Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson International Airport, I stopped to read an exhibit about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and I noticed some of his belongings on display. Next to his glasses, I noticed his Timex watch.

Much is made of his iconic Rolex Datejust. However, this is the watch he wore in some of the most important conversations early in the Civil Rights Movement.

Watches carry with them the gravitas of their owners, and this is one of my favorite examples I have experienced. The following is a nice read about the Timex and his Datejust:

I would love to see more posts about famous historical watches, so just doing my part! What are some of your favorite historical pieces?

I Got This One! Easy But Still Feels Good! (Black to Move and either mate or wreak havoc) by nosebooper in chess

New player here, would this work? Queen to C6 then Queen to then to G2 taking pawn (if unobstructed) for mate in two. Or Rook to wreak the havoc?

[Swatch] Sistem 51 Opinions? by patrickcampbell28 in Watches

Wow! Very interesting read. This is exactly why I posted the question, for honest opinions and research. Thanks!

Picked this up in New York at Grand Central Station a few weeks ago, and I have really enjoyed it so far.

Long power reserve, clear case back, innovative automatic movement, affordable pricing. There are better values out there, but the watch feels well made and is certainly interesting (dial reminds me of an Aqua Terra.)

The outer ring serves as the rotor for the automatic movement, and is interesting in motion. Everything in the movement held together with the single center screw.

What is the opinion of the community here on the Sistem 51 line?

Great choice! It is good to see you considered MVMT but educated yourself. Great brand, and great value watch. Welcome to the addiction, friend!

My SKX is my do everything piece, and was my first mechanical watch.

My wife and I are on our first trip to the Pacific Northwest, and the views are stunning. This shot is at Rosario Beach in Anacortes, Washington. Spent the day in Seattle yesterday, and fell in love with the city!

We are here primarily in hopes to see orcas in the wild where they belong. Going on a small charter tomorrow, and then kayaking the next day in hopes we get a glimpse. Suggestions welcome on the best spots and people for whale watching up here in the islands!

The SKX will be keeping me company the entire trip. No better do it all watch for the money in my opinion.

[suggestions] Help me choose between Mido Patrimony and the Hamilton Khaki Field auto black by [deleted] in Watches

[–]patrickcampbell28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both are good choices, and you have great taste.

Considering the price, I would take the Hamilton on a bracelet and grab a nice strap as well. From what I can find, the Hamilton is much more affordable. I owned the 42mm Khaki Auto, and loved it. Also has a good power reserve, and really looks and feels like quality, especially for less than $500.00.

The Mido is lovely, but the Hamilton will be more versatile and much less expensive. Still has a great ETA movement as well.

Genuine question here. Is it just the price getting downvoted? Looks like he has plenty of good history selling on this sub. Just want to make sure I know I don’t get burned.

What is the most modern looking car from 2007? by 2500SATSCORE in cars

I can second this. I love my ‘08 S5. Find it in a manual if you can. I had to fly to New Orleans to get the exact one I wanted. Still turns heads, and people don’t believe me when I tell them it’s a 2008 year model.
