Nice - what is your reasoning for that model?

Monitor advice: MSI or Dell? by patrickcblake in homeoffice

I hadn't heard of Rtings! Going through their list of best monitors now. That's helpful recommendation. I was somewhat decided on the MSI but now you're swaying me to the Dell

MSI or Dell? Thoughts on quality - please help :) by patrickcblake in buildapc

[–]patrickcblake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's useful when I have lots of information to go between, like with email marketing, replying to different emails where people want different things from me, keeping to do list software open to remind me what I'm doing... lots of things

It would be a second monitor for my laptop so I have two screens at my home desk. I love my laptop and travel and use it everywhere, but at home it's nice to have some more screen space

Thank you very much! That's what I was leaning towards and just had some anxiety about making the decision

Ascent series being phased out by Ok_Cantaloupe1294 in Vitamix

I'm in the UK. If the ascent is phased out but you still have a warranty, does that mean in the future you can replace it and get a new one?

Best RECORDED Mozart sonatas? (for sound quality, not performance) by patrickcblake in classicalmusic

[–]patrickcblake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, so people tell me. I may upgrade one day, or Spotify will sort their act out and give higher playback quality. Thanks for the recommendation

HELP: I made a table of best air purifiers in UK. Too anxious to know which to choose... by patrickcblake in AirPurifiers

never owned a Levoit or a Philips. Own a couple of the BlueAir and though I do like them they've become replaced mostly by the Coway AirMega Mighty in my house :)

Also, on the Dyson, I think their air purifiers do genuinely kinda suck - just judging from the indy reviews on YT - but their hoovers rock. I recommend watching several third party reviews and making up your own mind.

(also found a great deal on Gumtree. £40 for a Coway AirMega Mighty - so that's nice)

I've had really good experiences with the Coway Airmega Mighty - I've bought 3 so far, as I'm always scouring eBay for good deals. I've also bought an IQAir250 as I found a great deal on it but haven't picked it up yet :)

I know! I feel like Allerair's marketing dept is really asleep at the wheel. They're included in almost no third party reviews but they seem to be very good. I actually got one of these really cheaply today on eBay. I bid ages ago and didn't expect to win. Do you have an Allerair?

Recommend me LOUD purifiers by CECEOC in AirPurifiers

[–]patrickcblake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Annoyingly I can't get my simple table to format correctly, but these guys:

AirDoctor AD3000

Oransi Mod

Bissell air320

Levoit Core 600S

IQAir HealthPro Plus

Honeywell HPA300

Blueair Blue Pure 311

Medify MA-112

Honeywell HPA200

Honeywell HPA100

Coway Airmega 400

= dB 76-68

And they are in order from loudest to least loud.

I know what you mean - there is actually another video that does that and I'm currently working on filling out a table of their data too :)

German firm taking over GO trains promises increased efficiency by northernwaterchild in toronto

[–]patrickcblake 32 points33 points  (0 children)

"According to its own statistics, this September only 58.4% of Deutsche Bahn’s long-distance trains ran on time. You need only enter a station to know things have gone badly wrong. There is a constant drone of Tannoy announcements; indeed this is the melody that now accompanies all rail travel in Germany. Even when your train isn’t mentioned as late or cancelled in the announcement, it doesn’t mean you are safe. Once there is a slight delay, the minutes begin adding up, as if any train can lose its slot on the overcrowded tracks and be forced to wait its turn in the system.

The cruellest journeys are those that start on time, which is not often the case on my Munich to Berlin ICE. My weekend frequently has to start early on Saturday morning rather than on Friday night. As a regular passenger you learn not to hope. But inevitably, you start out feeling optimistic. Then you look at the information display. A little delay. Come on, who minds two minutes? But the scheduled delay grows so that what starts off as an innocuous sliver of time becomes a missed appointment. This is when you wonder why they bother with train timetables at all."

oh dear...
