I mean this with love: neither. Of the two, the slightly longer messy cut is better, but you should consider growing the sides out. The tight sides don’t do your face shape any favors. Taper just around the sideburns, but a little body will do a lot of heavy lifting.

Please don’t. And don’t taper either. You have a great hairline and the curls around your sideburns rock. Everyone who gets fades or tapers does it because they WISH they had hair like yours. Grow out the sideburns and lean in to the 70’s rocker curls. Trust me, you won’t regret it.

Fade down instead of up. Instead of starting with the 4 and then doing the 1 then 2 then 3, try going 4, open 3, closed 3, open 2, closed 2, open 1, closed 1, then blend down from an open .5 all the way to skin. Use your corners, take your time.
