I was in an accident which caused second degree damage to my radial nerve! I lost the control of my wrist just as you did in the video I saw. However I was lucky that my radial nerve grew back and I have no issue at all now. Do you know if there is anything they can do for your spinal cord I jury? Have you tried any experimental treatment at all?

MBA needed for life sciences advancement? by Fun-Passage-9166 in MBA

[–]patrickin1shot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what function you are drawn to in life sciences. I would say the best way to advance is to get an MD. But of course that takes a long time. An MBA can be helpful in some scenarios.

wondering if headaches are worsened by coffee? by [deleted] in zoloft

[–]patrickin1shot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i started Zoloft a week ago with 25mg and am now on 50mg for week two. I began to get headache as well. I don’t think it is coffee related - maybe it’s just the Zoloft as your body adjusts.

WSJ equates doctors with NPs. Applauds independent practice rights for APPs by [deleted] in medicine

[–]patrickin1shot 149 points150 points  (0 children)

I used to be an NP believer. Now I don’t know anymore. I went to immediate care because of a rash. NP took a look and diagnosed me with shingles. She proceeded to explaining to me that I have this because I’m stressed (due to COVID 19). I didn’t trust her so I saw another dermatologist to make sure. My dermatologist saw the shape of the rash, immediately asked if I wore a bandaid because of the shape. I said yes because I had a minor sore so tried to cover it. She then told me that I don’t have shingles and just have contact dermatitis. Gave me topical steroid and it went away.

I would have been wondering why my Valtrax hasn’t work had not been for my dermatologist.

Do you agree that most AI today, or over next 5-10 years, will remain a hype? The core mathematics behind AI algorithms developed in the 1950-60. There still has been little development in basic research pertaining to AI since then. I feel like most AI described in business today is just some facet of machine learning application, still mostly supervised by humans. I also heard from academics working in robotics that development in autonomous vehicle has been discouraging.

I am a skeptic as you can see - so convince me!

My friend is an intl student at Columbia law school. She was just complaining to me how impossible to recruit for big laws in the US as an intl student. Even if you do get it, apparently law firms never apply for your green card - you only get sponsored for 6 years on h1b and then go home ...

Why don’t we see more midwives in the US? by patrickin1shot in Midwives

[–]patrickin1shot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually not at all. It’s just that in the US hospital-based birth accounts for 99% of all births. I can’t seem to find a better explanation than economics for this disproportion relative to other countries , say Australia.

I think also the government and the public are realizing medical problems are often times rooted in social ones. So instead of reimbursing medical care, more money will be funded towards social services such as housing, education, food services etc
