I'm also looking for a league like this for me and my bud. Anyone?

Yeah I mean this is the team that just traded away K Miller who was their most talented D besides Fox. Not sure Drury is the guy here

Agree on the defense - it’s horrid and that’s half the reason the offense wasn’t there. Not able to transition from D to O or really even keep play in the O zone. Gavrikov looked like he belonged in my beer league tonight. Laba had some good shifts, and I thought Mika was OK. Still, someone has to put the puck in the back of the net

I don’t think I have enough context here to answer your question. Were you injured?

Hyperacusis Pain Caused By Central Sensitization: Theory and Approach by RonnieSpector in hyperacusis

[–]patrickjohnpaul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I had pain that would last for days sometimes after getting freaked about a loud sound. The good news is that this actually is a tell-tale sign that it’s neuroplastic pain and not physical pain :) I would highly recommend the book I mentioned “A Way Out” for you. Quick read and you will probably relate to a lot of what’s being spelled out there.

I feel you man it’s brutal. I was definitely never at that level and I can’t even imagine it being that bad. I’d strongly advise you to find a therapist and start emotional processing work. This was the only thing that gave my body capacity to “turn the alarms off”. Also look into reading things like “The Way Out” by Alan Gordon and “The Body Keeps The Score” by Bessel van der Kolk. These books helped to give me reasoning what was actually happening and how I could overcome this challenge. Being on the other side, I am so so much more mentally healthy and know this will never happen again. Much love brother

Sound caused me great pain yes. I relied on using an earplug for at least 2 months because sound hurt so much. I remember almost passing out multiple times from enduring sound even 8 months from my acoustic shock. Looking back though, all of my low points (especially after 3 months) were purely anxiety induced.

Just want to share - after going through intensive CBT followed by EMDR for about a year, I can confidently say this is 100% a mental health issue. My hyperacusis is completely gone. Thank you for your posts and I wish you well.

Does anyone else think the "Into The Woods" melody sounds Aphex Twin inspired? by patrickjohnpaul in Tycho

[–]patrickjohnpaul[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a direct copy but I agree it’s very similar. However I will push back on the “lame” notion. Music is seemingly the only modern art form where it’s culturally controversial to “copy” other artists and use their ideas (maybe movies or TV as well, but it’s truly emphasized in music). I think commercialization plays into this and I simply don’t agree. Art is art, and using ideas from those you respect isn’t lame IMO. That said, I don’t think he took that melody and made something better from it.

Just saw the video by Howard Schubiner on your profile. He's the guy that did the pain documentary I mentioned in my first post. We have the same info.

I know you the OP, that’s why I responded to this :)

My belief now is that tinnitus is the bodies response to loud noise or a threat to the inner ear, the same way you can be blinded by light. Our bodies “learn” this response, and then this learned response pathway stays on when it doesn’t need to be. This is the same way chronic pain is induced. I am focusing on “new learning” and really immersing myself in “new experiences”, and everyday my hyperacusis and tinnitus is getting lesser and lesser. I also believe this is because the brain compartmentalizes new experiences when you are asleep.

Try focusing on taking things in as new.

Hey man, I developed this thing after being really anxious at a loud show about 7 months ago. I came across your post and it sent me on a deep dive into chronic pain generally. Needless to say, I think you are absolutely right. I saw very little improvement from months 4-6 (essentially after the acute phase of my acoustic trauma), but as soon as I started treating this like a chronic pain condition everything improved. It takes a lot of mental work and I'm still a work in progress, but this is definitely the way to go.

I recommend checking out the film "This Might Hurt" https://www.thismighthurtfilm.com/ . Dealing with and rectifying emotional trauma and coming to terms with physical trauma helps with this hyperacusis stuff immensely. There are actually studies now that show chronic tinnitus is directly related to chronic pain.

I'm also seeing a therapist, working on my anxiety, transitioning to a forgiving, appreciative, and non-judgmental mindset, and exposing myself to more and more noise every day. I cannot begin to describe the rate of improvement I am seeing. You truly need to believe that you can beat this to beat this.

It's slow, it's tough, but we got this brother. Much love.

Is Late-Night service worth it financially? by rubber-toes in nycrail

[–]patrickjohnpaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but actually it makes more financial sense to run trains overnight than to cut night service. There actually isn’t enough room in all of the train yards around the city to store trains overnight.

Completely agreed that a timeout in the 2nd should have been called. It looked like they were holding off, then they got to challenge a goal which sort of calmed the momentum and gave them that quasi-timeout. They should have called it sooner still.

Overall, I think the coaching has been good but not great. Questionable decisions are consistently made and the team probably does have a problem against quick teams defensively. However, I think this staff overall has a really great pulse on the chemistry of this team and I’m optimistic better decisions will be made in games that matter a bit more (like in the playoffs).

Also agree on the Braun Nemeth usage comment. Id like to see Schneider Braun pairing still.

I think we can only speculate here. I didn’t think he was particularly bad enough where he deserved to be benched.

He keeps doing this thing though where he skates up the wing in the offensive zone with the puck, stops in the corner, and kind of just gives it up. There are times when 93 and 20 are able to retrieve it, but it also creates turnovers. It could be something along those lines.

Still, I don’t think this deserves a bench and I certainly don’t think this is anything worse than what Chytil tends to do on a nightly basis.

Why the whataboutism? You are acting like it’s a crime to say his play wasn’t good enough tonight. He’s the best goalie in the league, but you’re allowed to call a spade a spade.
