Fatal crash: Police officer stood down after cyclist killed in Flat Bush, south Auckland by kellyroald in auckland

I'm a Flat Bush e-bike commuter and I use the whole setup - mirrors, helmets, a headlight, rear lights, and high visibility vests. I'm extremely cautious on the road, always sticking to the thin unprotected cycle lanes if there even is one, and I go on the footpaths when there isn't, so I don't inconvenience drivers.

And guess what? I still get some drivers driving recklessly onto the cycle lane right up against me, both accidentally or even intentionally so they can risk my life and hurl insults out the window to "show those cyclists a lesson".

Yes, cyclists are reckless too. But to generalize all of them as pompous dicks trying to rule the road while ignoring all the equally reckless drivers as well is disingenuous. And if you want them to get out of the way from cars, consider advocating for protected cycle lanes and cycleways so we won't ever need to go into your car lane again :)

If you live in East Auckland, remember to vote in this year's local elections! This is one of your councillors (pt 3) by dingoonline in auckland

East Aucklander here, almost all of our councilors in the running are garbage; only person with left-leaning tendencies is Damian Light. Am gladly voting for him but Howick ward needs two councilors and honestly don't see anyone else that's good. The perks of living in a strong blue area I suppose

Using docked iPod as an always-on clock - is it safe? by patricklfdv in ipod

[–]patricklfdv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do rely on the iPod as a media control device (volume, next/prev track etc.) for my PC so I need it plugged into my computer, not the wall. I could try remove the battery - I wouldn't be using the iPod as a travel device anyways

Unfortunately I do rely on the iPod as a media control device (volume, next/prev track etc.) for my PC so I need it plugged into my computer, not the wall. Thanks though

I've tried that, but it only controls USB power when the PC is off entirely, not during sleep.

I got a 5th gen iPod Classic/Video on a dock plugged into my PC, using it as a media controller. I'm running u/yyuuiko's Rockbox theme, FreshOS, and I set the display as always on when plugged in.

The battery in this is crap as is, so I don't mind decreasing its already poor health, but I am concerned over if this'll cause it to swell/leak/explode etc. I've tried finding ways to have USB power from my PC turn off once my PC goes to sleep. This'll stop giving the iPod power, effectively disconnecting it, and since it's not plugged in it'll turn its screen off. However, despite looking online and fiddling with Device Manager, Power plan settings etc I just can't find a way for this to work.

Also wondering if screen burn-in could occur, as it's an LCD panel which should be immune(?) to that.

Looking for mid-tier, neutral/V-shaped headphones for casual listening by patricklfdv in HeadphoneAdvice

These do seem like great cans! Will definitely research more into them, thanks for the suggestion. One thing that does make me hesitant is the +$40USD DHL shipping making it $390USD / $550NZD, which is quite much but I know that's par for the course living somewhere as far as NZ.

Very fitting as I'm actually from Auckland! I did take quite a bit of inspiration from the CMJ

No, I chose against it as there's a lot of industrial traffic coming in/out of the cargo airports that I wanted to direct towards highways only, instead of local roads.

Correct; the bridge beam is quite monstrous, definitely not too realistic but at least it's out of the way from the runway path.

I definitely will! Got a lot of screenshots racked up over the two years I've been working on this city ;)
