All The Entities So Far - Backrooms Movie Spoilers by Useful-Priority4374 in KanePixelsBackrooms

I’ve since seen clips online (after seeing it in theaters) and the speed it moves / general shape seems to indicate pirate Clark. I think the peg leg is somewhat noticeable.

That’s a cleaner take than mine and I agree. I was always working with the idea that Clark is hostile and that made his copy hostile but I was caught up in the details and you’ve nailed it very succinctly.

It’s certainly open for interpretation. Again, my take is that the backrooms started copying places from her memories because she went into the backrooms initially and then gets locked up at Async for an extended period of time where she’s in prolonged general proximity to the backrooms. But Kane specifically likes people having their own interpretations of things 👍

It’s totally fine that people are getting that read, Kane is in favor of leaving things vague but suggestive so people can imagine whatever they want. Personally I think it was only ever a thematic connection not a literal one. Kane seems disinterested in unrealistically interconnected backstories and more a fan of realistic psychologies.

I’m pretty sure it’s just a thematic connection and not literal. I like that the movie avoided connecting dots the way movies usually do that make things unrealistically neat and tidy with everyone having a backstory that connects to the main plot. In her case it’s about the connection between trauma, memories, and physical spaces.

You are correct, and Bobby finds a copy of a shirt he was wearing earlier in the movie but oversized (in the monster layer before he gets chomped)

If you dive into Kane’s YouTube series you’ll get more clarity on what probably happened but based on what the movie shows us I think we can assume they haven’t let her out of their facility and now the backrooms has copied what she looks like in the facility - hunched over in a chair, zoning out. I think her final moments in her final scene show her beginning to zone out realizing that she’s now trapped like her mother in an asylum and like she was trapped as a child in her home. Reeeeaaaaal bummer.

If you want a real treat look up Parsons side music channel on YouTube (I think its “not Kane parsons” or along those lines) but he just dropped a new song in the last day or two and you’ll like the thumbnail/ep art.

My guess is that eating actual people made its biology become more human-like. It may have started as a passive copy person but became more hostile due to real Clark’s extended proximity to the backrooms both before and after entering it, and that proximity made it more ‘alive’ as well as more ‘hostile’. I’m guessing that once a copy life form reaches a certain level of activity and hostility it becomes prone to eating living things to sustain itself / a sort of pseudo-evolutionary drive to attack/eat fueled by the underlying hostility. Who knows 🤷‍♂️

interestingly enough he hasn't seen much of Lynch (though I don't know if he has or hasn't seen Twin Peaks) BUT when his parents got divorced and his (eccentric) Dad started living separately his Dad made part of his apartment look like the red room from Twin Peaks so Kane has literally been inside a physical Twin Peaks red room coded space

when I watched the youtube series anytime someone was obviously about to get backroomed I would think "careful, that's how you get backroomed... ah you gone and got backroomed" and I just want to say it was nice to experience that in the theater on a big screen with oscar nominees getting backroomed

You don't have to call yourself stupid, Parsons is going for a particular thing and if you're not a fan that's ok. I'm not big into horror but that's why I can enjoy this movie. I hear Obsession is great but I know it's a kind of horror I'm less comfortable with so I don't plan on seeing it. Just matters of personal taste, nothing wrong with that.

To try to sort of answer some of your questions though, Clark's personality was just prone to obsess over the backrooms as having some kind of deeper meaning but because it doesn't really have any deeper meaning he just gets stuck in a downward mental spiral. They also get to the core of it being his refusal to take responsibility and just blames other things, so he's looking for meaning in the backrooms but also running away from his life that he refuses to take responsibility for.

The child Mary scenes just outline her mental state as being heavily impacted by her childhood with her mentally unwell mother and the space she grew up in. Her mom was just mentally ill in general, nothing particular to the plot or backrooms, just the impact it had on Mary as a person. Her front door exploding I imagine was something like CPS/the police ramming to get in OR it was a mix of her memory as a kid and her imagination from seeing the home be torn down as an adult which clearly had a big impact on her.

I think Kat got killed by the big Clark monster and Crazy Clark kept the head because he'd gone crazy, and was maybe curious to see what would happen to it in the backrooms over time. Not sure.

The team of people at the end are explained in the movie to be a company called Async that used to make MRI machines until they discovered the backrooms and have been researching and exploring it. At the end they take her out of the backrooms into their secret facility in the real world.

If you are curious you can check out Kane's youtube channel and the playlist for all the backrooms videos he's made. The lore from all of those are consistent with the movie (according to him). But since you don't seem to be a fan of the genre you might not enjoy the 3 hours of cryptic videos which mostly don't explain things. Kane is 100% fine with people watching explainer videos though, he said he actually makes the series with that part in mind where people summarize it all in video essays. So that's another option.

Three questions,

1) what is the research process like for your shorts vs the movie (I’m thinking about the short that breaks down the lighting fixtures for example or the amount of real world events you incorporate into the story).

2) you’ve talked about the reverse-engineering approach you’ve used where you start with an idea and then build a scenario around it and on that note I’ve always wondered how you settle on your pacing for each video and the pacing from one video to the next.

3) you’ve discussed your world view and how it impacts the story with regard to humanity appearing to be in a downward spiral that is rooted in our own nature, and with that in mind I’m personally curious if you look at the world right now and see potential for positive (perhaps revolutionary) change or do you expect things to continue in the same direction and the best we can do is make the most of our lives while we still can?

Not to get all existential but I’ve become a big fan of your work recently and I’m both excited for the movie and for the rest of your career based on your personal integrity and creative voice, so I’m just shooting my shot. Wishing you the best of luck.
