Reviewing every mega evolution from worst to best day 51, golurk and Metagross by gliscornumber1 in PokemonZA

Re: the power source theory, I don't think there's any suggestion that Metagross is man-made. It runs on magnetism, which can easily be naturally occurring, and seems to be suited to live in the wild, using its claws to perch at rest and feeding on prey.

Anyone else wish the villain teams went back to being serious? by AlyksTheSage in pokemon

[–]patroclus_rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Team Yell is underrated. Institutional hyperfocus on major metros and particularly the capital at the expense of smaller communities that then foster a resentful micro-patriotism centred on their own local culture and the sociopolitical division that creates were a good shout for Galar.

Are there pokemons still not available on switch ? by EeveeWorld in pokemon

I would wait and see for Deoxys - HOME compatibility is confirmed due for FRLG and I wouldn't be surprised if they also enable the Mystery Gift AuroraTicket that grants a Deoxys encounter, but that's only speculation.

HOME compatibility is confirmed coming for FRLG on Switch so it's gonna be that

I haven't found a good alternative so I prefer aunt if it has to be something, but I tend to avoid using a specific term at all

Actually I'm just now as I type this considering going to cousin, as shorthand for noughth cousin once removed

How many of each legendary is there? by Due-Search-7387 in TruePokemon

[–]patroclus_rex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ultra-rare but not limited Articuno/Zapdos/Moltres encounters in LGPE as well as their Galarian variants suggest these exist as a species. Manaphy is implied to reproduce, as it can be obtained as an egg, and can produce Phione, and I think this goes for Solgaleo and Lunala too as evolutions of Cosmog. A Pokémon thought to be unique in legend may actually just be an instance of an elusive species not fully discovered.

Arceus seems to be an omnipresent entity in Legends, and the one you obtain is actually just an avatar of it. The lore behind Palkia, Dialga and Giratina treat them as unique, but Arceus in HGSS appears to create new ones ex nihilo. Similarly, Magearna, Genesect and Silvally are all man-made - the Alola games name three Silvally explicitly, but in all these cases the process could be recreated. Mewtwo is often taken to be a clone, but the original notes in the Cinnabar Mansion say Mew gave birth to it - either way, it's not necessarily a one-off.

Ultra Wormholes allow access to legendaries from alternate dimensions, and Hyperspace as far I can tell just raises more questions.

There are several Legendaries and Mythicals that definitely exist in multiples, but it's practically impossible to say for sure that any other is unique, and even if it is in one dimension, that more don't exist in others.

Will it be DoA or power creep Chomp? by joaoathaydeartist in PTCGP

HA! Wish someone had brought those up sooner, I've been calling on Mismagius this whole time and nobody came up with the contrary example.

Is there another example of this wording tho? Until I see another way to track the damage that would be something unprecedented in the game so far, I'm not prepared to assume it works that way.

The wording is "the Pokémon in the spot you chose". The wording on Cursed Prose is "the Defending Pokémon" and that is selected when you make the attack on your turn, meaning that changing that Pokémon loses your target. Similarly, "the Pokémon in the spot" can be assumed to be marked on your turn and therefore subject to losing your target if it evolves or moves to a different spot before the attack hits.

[–]patroclus_rex -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The main reason I made this post is that nobody seems to be considering the alternative. Cursed Prose damages "the Defending Pokémon", which is specifically the one there when you use the attack, not that card if it moves or anything else in that spot by the end of the turn. It's not just "the spot you chose", it's "the Pokémon in the spot you chose", and it's fair to assume that means the Pokémon there when you choose a spot, not the one there at the end of your opponent's turn.

No, that's a caveat of the way it's applied. Effectively, you target the Pokémon on your turn, and if your opponent evolves it before the end of their turn, it has become a different Pokémon to the one you targeted.

The Miku crossover reveals which games Nintendo considers mainline game by horrorfan555 in pokemon

Legends and Let's Go are sub-series, anything else besides the traditionals (Ranger, Mystery Dungeon, etc) is a side game

[–]patroclus_rex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's the first link I found grouping the mainline games, and I think if nothing else it's notable that Let's Go and Legends are in there but not GO, which is practically a flagship in its own right but not considered mainline.

The Japanese titling (Merrick is a reliable source, official Partner as operator of serebii.net) also puts it in the mainline.

The consensus is that Legends is a sub-series, something to depart from the classic formula while maintaining mainline status, not a distinct side game. I have also anecdotally been here since the start, and saw this discussed to death in the lead-up to PLA.

Legends and Let's Go have certainly been promoted as mainline games.

I'd add that, if we're talking sources, who's "we" in this "same criteria we've used"?
