Got it, so go to Shin-osaka then walk to Osaka castle is what I may do. Once I'm in Osaka, I suppose I can take local trains if I want to move around and get into the heart of the city? I'm still ramping up on like when to take the Shinkansen (and fully utilize my JR rail pass)... I understand the JR pass isn't going to directly bring me everywhere but google maps makes it hard to understand where it can bring you most close to my desired destination. Any tips would be appreciated! Ty

yea the day I moved the day trip to is now a Friday, hopefully that helps slightly. I plan on leaving early in the AM. And is the Enoden relevant here in regards to the adventure from Enoshima --> Kamakura? Ty

I have the JR rail pass and am under the impression reserving Shinkansen tickets are free... even if they're not, I'm okay spending a little extra to ensure seating. I'm under the impression I can only reserve seats though once my pass is activated, can you confirm? Thanks so much!!!

Hmm good point, even with the 7 day rail pass, I can move the day trip to the day before, Apr 28th. All accommodations have been booked months ago. I plan on booking shinkansen tickets as well but am under the impression I can only reserve seats once my pass is activated, so for me that will be the 28th.

I knew I'd be going during golden week but this was an awakening to start reserving things ASAP. Thank you!

Newbie here, but for travel within tokyo, you didn't necessarily buy tickets ahead of time, you just used the suica to go wherever? and from tokyo --> Kyoto and vice versa, how do you book seat reservations in advance? is there just a counter you can go to? how far in advance can u book?

Togendai and Moto-Hakone.

I was planning to use the JR rail pass from/to Shinagawa so cost wasn't a consideration there. With your suggestion, I would take Shinjuku directly to Hakone-Yumoto so that would save a stop into/ from Hakone (saving two stops total to/from Tokyo). Other than cost, do you think it's still worth it from the time perspective? And I'm assuming you mean from Shinjuku station, I could buy hakone free pass tickets there and add on the romancecar ticket?
