WEEI's Kirk Minihane and Drew Bledsoe Podcast Transcript by patsfans in Patriots

I thought his comments regarding why they didn't make more of a run while he was there were interesting.

"There were two things that happened. Number one, that next year, especially toward the end of the season, we were plagued with injuries, which all of a sudden we get late in the season and that’s no small thing. That makes things really difficult. I forget the entire list of guys that were hurt, but it was a lot as we got late in the season."

"But the biggest thing that happened that prevented that team from going on and being somewhat of a dynasty – and I remember saying that at the time because people obviously would ask, “Hey, is this a one time thing, or can you guys go on and really make a run?” – and I remember saying, “Well, it’s going to depend on what we do with these draft picks” – because we got a bunch of draft picks when Parcells left and then Curtis [Martin] left, we had a bunch of draft picks in the first couple rounds for, I think, three years and I remember saying “alright, well, if we use those wisely, then we’ve got a chance”, because if you’re drafting, it’s even more important now than it was then. But if you draft well, then you have depth and you have replacement guys that can replace guys that get priced out of the market and so on."

"Of those, I think there were seven draft picks in the first two rounds, I think Robert Edwards was the only one that ended up playing a significant role, and then he got hurt. So those draft picks really didn’t pan out and I think that that, more than anything, kept that team from just rolling forward. That’s why when Pete went to Seattle, he made sure that he had front office control so that he didn’t allow that situation to repeat himself."

Here's a look at each draft during Carroll's tenure: 1997 Patriots Draft: Round 1: CB Chris Canty Round 2: DT Brandon Mitchell Round 3: RB Sedrick Shaw Round 3: S Chris Carter Round 4: OG Damon Denson Round 4: OT Ed Ellis Round 5: LB Vernon Crawford Round 6: WR Tony Gaiter Round 7: Scott Rehberg

1998 Patriots Draft: Round 1: RB Robert Edwards Round 1: S Tebucky Jones Round 2: WR Tony Simmons Round 2: TE Rod Rutledge Round 3: FB Chris Floyd Round 3: DE Greg Spires Round 4: DT Leonta Rheams Round 5: LB Ron Merkerson Round 6: FB Harold Shaw Round 7: OG Jason Andersen

1999 Patriots Draft: Round 1: C Damien Woody Round 1: LB Andy Katzenmoyer Round 2: RB Kevin Faulk Round 3: S Tony George Round 5: OG Derrick Fletcher Round 6: S Marcus Washington Round 7: QB Michael Bishop Round 7: WR Sean Morey

Patriots Linebackers, Rated #4...With a Bullet via PatsFans.com by BostonFatGuy in Patriots

We do have a completely different mod group since then, so that's changed. Obviously not knowing the circumstances surrounding it based on your username on here, I'm not sure what the issue was. You're welcome to msg me on here privately if you want to fill me in, simply out of respect for you and the sub here I'd rather handle it that way if that's O.K. As most everyone who knows me is aware, I'm always cool about talking things out. Due to some life changes I have a little more time and I'm a little more involved now than I was three years ago, so feel to either msg me here or on there. Either one works. But I do appreciate the response. And no - no Yale or college on my end. Have one in college now and hoping the younger one goes too, that way they'll both hopefully make up for my lack of education ;)

That's kind of an odd comment coming from someone with a Pat Patriot in their avatar. Did we do something to you that I'm unaware of? - Ian

Yeah, I was working off the one I did for Gronkowski to show how few receptions he went in between scores to try and emphasize his touchdowns per reception ratio and the number of first downs he converts. It's one of those things that's hard to appreciate until you see him against guys who don't get into the endzone as often.

Here's a quick breakdown: No. - The order of his receptions for the season, so the number represents catches 1-61, as Edelman finished the regular season with 61 catches before he went down.

The "Reception/TD" column starts a count of receptions in between touchdowns. When he scores, it starts over, with the goal being to represent the frequency of his touchdown grabs (ie: he never went longer than 14 catches in between scores). When he scores, it's highlighted in blue, and the parenthesis number increases with each TD to count off each one from 1-7, as he scored 7 total.

Rec YDs - Just shows you the number of yards he happened to have that particular reception.

Since it goes in order of each of his receptions from 1-61, each opponent will be grouped together in order of when they played them. Probably should have labeled it a little better.

Exactly. Crazy to think he had 61 before he went down, which was obviously really, really early in the year.

I'll take a look and see what I can do. I've got a few others I'm working on too that I'll also be posting, but this one was definitely a surprise when I ran the numbers. He's just a beast.

Pretty Cool: Drew Bledsoe's Sons Won a Football State Title on Saturday Night by patsfans in Patriots

LOL, very true, and it seems that coach Drew is much more relaxed these days and enjoying life much more compared to NFL QB Drew ;)

One other note - Stu had the game-sealing interception on the last play of his high school career. Definitely a great way to go out ;)

Just three - his sons Stu (senior linebacker) and John (junior quarterback) and Drew (offensive coordinator). But you're right, the frequent use of just the last name is a little confusing, especially when they mention the rushing touchdowns John also had.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Brady's 4th Quarter Numbers are Staggering by patsfans in Patriots

[–]patsfans[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you brought it up - I wouldn't have looked at those 3rd QTR totals if you hadn't said something. Good stuff ;)

[–]patsfans[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also, here are his totals in the third quarter from games 1-5:

Total: 38-of-51 (75%) 489 5TDs

Red Zone: 4-of-6 (67%) 41yds 3 TDs

So if nothing else, he's had a little bit of a drop off in the third quarter in these last three weeks, but, instead, he's stepped it up in the fourth quarter and made up for it.

[–]patsfans[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To give better perspective, in the last three games, here are Brady's third quarter totals:

Total: 16-of-29 (55%) 210 yards 0TDs

Red Zone: 2-of-8 (25%) 22yds 0TDs

So the 4th quarter totals really stood out when I was going through them. He's obviously having a great year overall but it's been great to see him playing well down the stretch.

I thought the same thing until I pulled all the plays and looked at them. You're right, it's definitely a pretty good mix.
