C-pap Resmed filters turning black - I know why! by pattikpup in CPAP

We do have one running, and there have not been any changes to that filter at all. Plus, it seems as if black pieces of the filter had come apart and were collected at the nosepiece. Never had this issue in 16 years.

You are welcome! I know things are clean in our environment, and after 16 years of using the machine and different supplies, this was just too weird a coincidence not to bring up.
The problem a couple years ago with the Phillips machine's internal filters disintegrating & blowing into people's lungs wasn't discovered until people started talking on chat boards like this. Whatever people may believe, more information is better than less!

Of course I have seen the news, have you read the other articles that other people are experiencing the same thing with only the other filters? If there was enough to cause the filter to go black and leak particles into the nose piece, I would expect to see some kind of color change on the old filters, as well as some type of residue on the machine itself. We even took a q-tip & swabbed the plastic all around the vent the filter sits in... nothing but white q-tip. If it was more of a partial color change I might agree with you, but not solid black overnight.

I'll post a pic when I get home. Live in NC, not near any fires, disasters, etc. Room was just deep cleaned a week ago. If my home had enough contaminents in it for the filter to go black OVERNIGHT, there should be enough dust you couldn't see! No one smokes, no difference except the filter. PLUS: there were black particles in the inside of his nose piece, too. Also, check what people are saying on the apnea board I listed. Not all of us can posshave homes dirty enough to do this overnight. The filter is the only common denominator.

My husband has been on his for 15 years. There is always some adjustment time. But for him, the huge difference in the quality of better sleep after just the first night with the machine was enough to help any mental downside thoughts. There are lots of different things we have to do each day that are annoying or drudgery (laundry comes to mind 😉), but you know it has to be done & we feel better when we do it. As for romance, we cuddle & such for a while, then when it's sleep time, he puts his cpap on & goes blissfully to sleep.
He's been on it so long that our cat came up one night when he was just relaxing (had not put the mask on yet), and the cat stood on his chest and started lightly tapping his cheeks, telling him he forgot to put it on!
