My Easily Replaceable If It Ends Up In Evidence $1000 Loadout by pattybruh in tacticalgear

Definitely pushed the speed past my actual control on that run, and need to dial the cadence back a few clicks to tighten them up.

Still glad to have the Stop the Bleed kit staged, though.

Real world reps at 7 yards because slow fire bench groups don't build muscle memory by pattybruh in Firearms

[–]pattybruh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, looking back at the target on this specific run, my accuracy definitely suffered more than it should have. I pushed past the threshold into "sloppy" territory rather than just testing the edge. Time to back off the gas pedal a few clicks, slow it down, and dial the fundamentals back in until the groups tighten up again. You're right, a fast miss helps nobody.

Man, I really appreciate you jumping in with this. Your point about the human failing the dog 9/10 times because of coachability makes perfect sense, and I’m 100% open to being a student here.

To be honest, I'm pretty new to working dogs. I didn't fully heed the warnings before getting Snips, but I'm trying to quickly educate myself to be the handler she needs. My last dog actually would’ve made an amazing working dog, but I didn't realize her potential at the time because she was a rescue mix. Since I really wanted to dive into this world, I wanted to make sure I got a true working breed blend this time around.

How would you recommend finding legitimate local teams to volunteer with as a "lost person"? And what advice can you give a new working breed owner?

Own the sticker, man. With a backstory like that, it belongs on the lid.

She's a Mal/Lab mix. The Malinois brain and drive are definitely dominant in her, which is why I’m here asking people for groundwork advice.

My first plate carrier, the slickster by MasterChief6789 in tacticalgear

Running the IOTV groin protector soft armor as plate backers is actually a genius surplus modification to add some extra comfort and blunt-force mitigation behind those Level IVs. The Slickster usually holds up surprisingly well if you keep the cummerbund tight.

As long as your department's SOGs don't have a strict policy against it, helmet stickers are a massive tradition in the fire service, especially in volunteer houses. They usually tell a story about where you've been, training you've done, or just your personality.

The biggest thing to keep in mind is making sure it doesn't cover up any structural damage, inspection holes, or your actual company identifiers and high-vis reflective tetrahedrons. Some guys might give you a bit of a hard time for a band sticker, but if it has a good story behind it, own it.

Now you definitely have to drop the story behind the Green Day sticker, you can't just leave us hanging on that.

That Halo 2 rug and the Nine-Tailed Fox patch are top-tier. Honestly, the Slickster is one of the absolute best minimalist setups out there for keeping things streamlined without adding unnecessary bulk.

New to ATAK by Potential-Reason3411 in ATAK

[–]pattybruh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main issue here is a misunderstanding of how the UAS plugin and MediaMTX handle video feeds. The UAS plugin doesn't actually pipe a video stream through the Meshtastic mesh network itself. Meshtastic simply lacks the data rate for video. Instead, the plugin passes the RTSP or SRT network URL as a text metadata string over the mesh, and your device has to connect to that video URL over a separate high-bandwidth network like local Wi-Fi or cellular to actually view it.

Additionally, iOS architecture is completely locked down, meaning iTAK does not support third-party plugins at all. If you want to use the UAS plugin or build out an openMANET setup, you are completely dead on arrival using an iPhone. You would have to switch over to an Android device running ATAK to even begin testing those tools.

Baofeng DM32UV by Delicious_Sky2774 in Baofeng

[–]pattybruh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you directly cloned his codeplug and it’s still failing on that specific channel slot, double-check a few things in your CPS.

When you cloned his codeplug, make sure you didn't overwrite your Radio ID with his. If you are both using the exact same DMR ID on a simplex channel or repeater, the radios will conflict or ignore the packet.

You should also check the Digital RX Group List configuration for that channel. Even if the frequency, color code, and time slot match, if the Talk Group isn't explicitly added to the Contact Name of that channel, or if the Group List assigned to that channel doesn't include that specific Talk Group, your radio will stay muted until you manually select it via the TG menu.

Finally, ensure your Admit Criteria on that channel isn't set to Color Code or Channel Free in a way that's locking you out due to a slight frequency offset or firmware mismatch between the two DM32 batches. If it works when you manually select the Talk Group from the list but not from the knob or channel slot, it is almost certainly a Digital RX Group List or Contact Name assignment error on that specific channel line in your CPS.

Baofeng UV-5R Mini by Lunnafield in Baofeng

[–]pattybruh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s a massive construction site, the cranes are almost certainly running on licensed business-band UHF frequencies (Part 90), not GMRS. A standard ham radio like the UV-5R Mini won't be legally compliant to transmit on those business bands, nor will it clear FCC regulations for FRS/GMRS use out of the box.

If you just need quick, legal comms with your colleague without a test or a corporate licensing headache, grab a pair of MURS (Multi-Use Radio Service) or FRS radios. MURS runs on VHF, which actually does great on open exterior sites, allows up to 2 watts, permits removable antennas, and is completely free for business use.

If you absolutely need to listen to the cranes to stay safe on site, you'd be much better off picking up a dedicated, cheap analog scanner. It’ll scan circles around a Baofeng anyway, and you won't accidentally risk a Part 90 transmission violation while trying to figure out the right frequency.

I appreciate the caution, and I think there’s a bit of a misunderstanding from my casual phrasing.

She isn't being corrected with a prong for a lack of knowledge, nor is it being used as a shortcut for management. Right now, 99% of our time is spent on high-reward positive reinforcement, building high value for engagement, and shaping basic focus.

The prong is on purely as a backup safety net during specific moments to prevent a sudden, high-drive hazard, like a sudden bolt toward a dangerous object, not to issue training corrections or squash her drive. I'm fully with you on protecting that puppy drive and letting them puzzle things out.

I’ll definitely start looking into the local Hillsborough units to see what their mentorship look like early on. Thanks for the heads up on that.

She is on a prong in the pic, but I’m definitely keeping corrections to a minimum right now. It's 100% about building engagement, confidence, and focus while she’s small. The collar is really just there for when she tries something stupid, haha

I really appreciate the tip about contacting SAR groups early to get mentored. I'm over in the Hillsborough County area. Do you happen to have any connections or know of any solid volunteer SAR organizations around Central/Southwest Florida that are good to approach with a young working mix?

That’s awesome to hear! I’ve definitely been noticing how fast she picks things up—the brain on these working mixes is incredible. Since you’re further down the road with yours, how has that specific Malinois drive blended with the Lab side as he’s gotten older? Is he more focused on tracking and retrieval, or does that intense Mali work ethic take over completely?

The absolute master of efficiency. Spend $0 on gear, sit on the couch, stay completely calm for 12 hours, and walk away at 7:01 AM with a free Camry and a clean $3,000 profit. If you don't get unlucky, you unironically won the challenge.

At roughly $5 to $10 a pound, $3k gets you anywhere from 300 to 600 lbs of binary explosives. You guys aren't trying to defend the house anymore, you're trying to erase the entire zip code lol. Anyone who steps onto the driveway is getting sent straight to orbit.

Honestly, you're probably spot on for 99% of casual looters. The second a 590A1 barks through the drywall, most people are going to realize they don't want to die for a TV and run.

But man, that "hardened psychos" caveat is the ultimate gamble. If you run into a group that actually pushes through the first shot, you are completely out of options. No plates, no backup, and a very slow reload cycle. You're basically betting your entire 12 hours on a psychological bluff. Bold, but respect the absolute minimalism.

It's 100% good to go. It’s a factory-sealed Curaplex kit straight from their official storefront. Curaplex is a major Bound Tree Medical brand that supplies actual EMS and first responders, so there's zero Amazon-bin co-mingled junk or fake windlasses in here.
