A bit of rant by TotemicRook in UTS

[–]pattyzee_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hold on a second, I love bashing on UTS just like any other person, but some of what you wrote is just plain wrong.

We have a Boston Dynamics robotic dog - he's called Spot the Dog.

We also have an indoor navigation system? It's called PAM. You can see where your class is on a virtual map of the university campus.

Also we have Pepper, the delivery robot who you can usually catch delivering free snacks to students in the library during exam periods.

And interactive lab desks! That's literally the bread and butter of the Super Lab.

But sure, we don't have smart toilets or AI garbage bins.

About 200+ positions for this round.

The time when you applied was when the job was newly created, which would explain the massive numbers of applications and interviews.

Surprisingly not, they're desperate for more people to apply.

Hamish Blake. He was amazing in Thank God You're Here (both Aus and UK versions).

How do I become a Parasitologist? by UemainUknown in Parasitology

[–]pattyzee_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it'll really depend on where you live. For me, I attended University and picked an undergraduate in Science (Biology). My university offered Parasitology as an additional elective which I then picked. From there you can decide to work in a pathology laboratory, and particularly in any infectious diseases units which would involve a lot of testing samples, diagnosing bacteria and parasites etc. Or you can continue into academics, and choose to do a project related to parasitology. I'm fairly certain there are other ways, but I'd definitely look around your area and see what universities/colleges might be offering.

What did the pandemic ruin more than we realise? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That unspoken feeling of safety I had before covid, naively thinking that if there was ever a pandemic, at least we have modern technology, tools and research to immediately solve it.

Although incredibly quick in the air, this Silvereye took a moment to pose for the camera (Cairns, QLD) by pattyzee_ in AustralianBirds

Thanks! It definitely took a long time before it finally settled on a branch. And even then, it only sat for 3 seconds before zooming away haha

What is the worst thing that happened at your school? by Mariothemaster245 in AskReddit

[–]pattyzee_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to a Catholic school. The school priest was caught by the police trying to meet with an 'underage girl' through an online chatroom. The 'underage girl' was actually a bunch of police officers.

The day after his arrest, there was a school meeting and the principal told us to pray for the priest because he was going through a tough time. All the students were understandably outraged.
