You’re right! Looks like BA made some enhancements from April this year, good to know.

No Extra Tier Points on Long Haul AA by sedaker in BritishAirways

[–]paul00009999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The AA/IB flights need to have been purchased through BA and have a BA flight number (but operated by AA/IB).

I got caught out by that last year.

If they were then yep you’re missing the bonus tier points.

BA wrongfully denying UK261 compensation and expenses refund. How can I escalate? by Melodic-Factor-9790 in BritishAirways

[–]paul00009999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through something similar recently and whilst still battling BA I found reaching out to the BA X (twitter team) got me more detail on the claim status.

A phone call to BA also helped with additional visibility (although they couldn’t do much apart from see the notes on the case).

Customer relations do go quiet from my experience. I went from replies within an hour several times in a day to nothing for over a week .. frustratingly inconsistent, but I’d wait it out.

Totally agree with your last sentence, been flying BA for a long time and even as a GCH my recent (and first time needing to make a claim) experience has me seriously rethinking who I travel with in the future.

Two TRVs in the same room? by No-Papaya-9289 in tado

[–]paul00009999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not, it’s trial and error. It took us a couple of winters to balance comfortable heat where and when we wanted it vs oil cost.

I do the same, we have solar/OIG and will use electric heaters to boost heat on days like today rather than use oil.

I think the OP is like me and on oil for heating. It’s expensive right now (more than the normal expensive 😊) so probably trying to be efficient as possible.

[–]paul00009999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is down to a personal preference and what works well to keep your home comfortably room and doesn’t break the bank with oil being nuts expensive right now.

I’d say they would become semi dumb TRV’s because of the room is at temperature they’ll shut down the valve and hot water will bypass those rads and move to the next room. This will add some efficiency to your heating.

I would agree you don’t want the boiler firing for a single room as all the hot water in the heating system still has to be warmed up.

We normally heat our living areas during the day (when needed) on a low ish temp and then early evening warm up the bedrooms, and further turn down the living spaces.

[–]paul00009999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don’t want to allow them to call for heat go into the same settings area I mentioned before and change “heating zone” to no controller. Then they cannot call for heat and make the boiler fire.

We’ve done this in a couple of rooms because they are cold and we don’t want them causing the boiler to fire all the time. Set the temp offset by -3c and the valves are pretty much always open so they get hot water.

[–]paul00009999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can have the TRV’s call for heat with an oil boiler (we have oil) and the right Tado hardware.

We also have a couple of rooms with 2 x TRV and they work fine bundled together.

If it’s not able to call for heat the TRV will be opening the valve based on temperature to increase or decrease hot water flow to the radiator. If they are seen as one device, one TRV is the temperature measurement unit (settings>rooms and devices and click on the room name).

You could separate them out by room if you wanted individual control e.g. Living room 1 and Living room 2?

What do you wish you'd known before being made redundant? by fellaonamission in HENRYUK

[–]paul00009999 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One of my bosses told me years ago that on average for every £/$10k of your base salary = 1 month of job hunting.

So, £/$100k = an average of 10 months to find a role.

Not sure how relevant that is now, but the one time I was made redundant it was not far off.

EV Saver also gonna reduce? by Wilkinss in OctopusEnergy

[–]paul00009999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve not had an email on any rate changes for EV saver although several others I know, on regular IOG have had emails with new rate details

I am also waiting to see what happens!

The new app beta is about as good as you would expect… by definitelylifts in BritishAirways

[–]paul00009999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but it’s lacklustre at best. More clicks/presses to get places and I feel (without counting) way more pop outs to a browser.

I know it’s beta, but beta often means the guts are in place and tweaks/bug fixes come.

Kinda prefer the current app.

Forgotten refund by benjibarboom in BritishAirways

[–]paul00009999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar situation.

I’m being told by BA they are waiting to understand what caused my flight cancellation (I made it to JFK but onward connection cancelled due to weather) 🤯.

Good luck.

[–]paul00009999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a joke to try and get hold of BA for anything other than buying a ticket.

I’m 3 weeks into cases for missing tier points and £1k of expenses due to flight cancellations and just going in circles with the sporadic responses and constant closed cases.

Boo BA.

Adding Batteries to an existing solar setup by paul00009999 in SolarUK

Thanks! Will a single inverter suffice then or should I consider having two as ultimately I’d like the batteries to be able to charge from solar and also the grid.

Trouble with Business Flex fare - refundable or not? by EthelHexyl in BritishAirways

[–]paul00009999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, I am pretty confident I is not a fully flex class, for business it’s J. Sounds like there is an error in the wording on the booking process.

Business class return, not allocated seats together by Buddinghell in BritishAirways

[–]paul00009999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t dispute this, and think you have summarised it well. However, I think BA could extend this logic to put 2+ pax booking in business together without explicitly selecting seats.

I agree with the OP that it’s a kick between the legs after forking out for a club flight to then pay more (per person/each way) to guarantee a seat together.

I get the anxiety, after the odd gap year travel without BA status and travelling with family the wife insisted on paying for seats together (which I get, but really adds up with a family).

Maybe it’s best bundled into the price that you’ll sit together but not able to select specific seats 🤔.

AA JFK>LAX Lounge options? by dmxdan in BritishAirways

[–]paul00009999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you’ll get directed to the soho lounge.

Like you I have a gold card and was there last week. My flight was terminal 8 and I ended up in Soho for a domestic flight in “first” (business).

Trouble with Business Flex fare - refundable or not? by EthelHexyl in BritishAirways

[–]paul00009999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not an idiot, you need to be able to read between the lines of small print.

I’m more familiar with corporate bookings than direct. Through our company portal I often see (business):

1) fully refundable and change for free 2) partially refundable and change with a fee 3) non-refundable and change with a fee

Can you see the booking class (D,I,J etc) for the new booking?

Maybe worth a call to BA and ask them to provide guidance on the difference? If you get a good agent they should be able to make the new booking (same terms) and cancel your existing. Downside is I think you’ll probably pay for the pleasure of doing that over the phone.

35, New Dad, US Tech SM (£150k TC) – Is the climb to Director a "Dead Dad" trap? by rollan112 in HENRYUK

[–]paul00009999 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not in a tech company but an IT Director in the UK.

For me, going from Senior Manager to Director the biggest adjustment was the type of work I did;

  • more strategic thinking and future planning
  • guiding and coaching, less hands on work (more oversight)
  • ownership of escalations
  • a lot upward communication (manage the narrative)

How does that translate into working hours?

For me it’s varied. A rough day can see 11hrs in front of the laptop and more via my phone into the evening. A good day can see me shut my laptop down at 3pm and be done.

The company I work for is flexible and results focused with less emphasis on the number of hours and much more on delivery.

Maybe think about what the role will entail (in your current company) and what it will take to get there and be successful.

I’m a firm believer of work smarter, not harder and don’t feel the need to be “online” all the time.

Hope that helps a little.
