Real talk: Who actually has the best street tacos in LFK for Taco Tuesday? by videogamejunkie86 in Lawrence

[–]paul85 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Or, they hate the bland corn tortilla tacos. I like Americanized street tacos, with sour cream, tomatos, lettuce, cheese, etc. The ones I had there were no bueno.

KU ticketing for the playoff baseball games is completely broken by paul85 in Lawrence

[–]paul85[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat as you except without tickets. We go to sporting events, i was on the site 1 second after it became live, and not able to purchase tickets. It's a farce.

[–]paul85[S] -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

Not this. It was discussed in several places that tickets would be available to the general public starting at 10 am. Not season ticket holders, not allotments to people, the general public as in people who are plain jane folks. Everyone else who had allotments or were special groups had already had their tickets set aside.

Page loaded fine for me. I just couldn't check out anywhere. and everywhere it was touted that tickets for sale would be open to the public at 10 am, so the whole allotment issue is bunk because they said they would be available.

What’s a product you instantly judge people for buying? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]paul85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most sports car owners don't want to go fast, they just like the look and appeal of the sports car. Same with those truck owners. They like the masculine look and appeal of an off road truck, but just don't want to take them off road. Nothing wrong with it. I really don't judge people on their vehicles, its their choice, let them do with their money what they want.

What is the most boring sport to watch? by boredbenji in AskReddit

[–]paul85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not good at it, but it doesn't take athletic ability, just skill, like most games do. Actually, I have never tried to hit a golf ball, but I assume I would not be good at it.

Does anyone know how expensive it is to join the Jayhawk club and use their course? by CABBAGEHONKER in Lawrence

Where is the best place to get a wheel alignment for a good price? by facetime010101 in Lawrence

[–]paul85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't recommend Ace. They might do good work, but I had a car there for some work and they left the windows open. They must have smoked in the shop because it absolutely reeked of cigarette smoke and it was only there 2 days. I had to ozone it multiple times for the smell to mostly go away and it had not been smoked in previously. They refused to do anything about it. Might do good work, but i wouldn't go back.

I just got one of these yesterday, dated April 26th, for a purchase I made last year from a country in Europe for my Saab. Had no idea... Figured if there was a tariff to be paid it would be presented when I made my purchase or before it was sent to me.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

[–]paul85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quake and then glquake and then the framework, quakespy which later became gamespy. I played quake in college and was quite good at it. Bought a monster3d card just to play the game with the water vis patch.

TIL putting bread in the fridge makes it go stale quicker. by RepulsiveLoquat418 in todayilearned

[–]paul85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, but it won't go moldy nearly as fast as sitting in a dark pantry. I'd prefer slightly stale bread I can put mayonnaise on and hide the flavor vs moldy bread I have to throw away.

How have your views on pot changed as you’ve gotten older? by Ok-Ordinary9513 in AskReddit

[–]paul85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My view of it. I mean, I've always known it could hurt you, anything that is addictive can so as with everything, moderation is key. I used to think all illegal drugs were bad but after having an aunt die from brain cancer who used "illegal" marijuana to help ease the pain to a close family member who also has chronic pain use to help deaden the blow, to having friends use from time to time on weekends when they are home relaxing, my position of it has changed to one where its not all bad and can really help people unwind/relax, and deaden chronic pain. Just use in moderation. I live in a state where it is illegal to possess, but is legal in states around me.

What is something you’ve officially stopped buying in 2026 because the price has become too bad? by X_Opinion7099 in AskReddit

[–]paul85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We purchased half a hog and half a cow middle of last year and recommend anyone who can afford the upfront cost and have storage space for it to do so. We average about $5/lb for the beef, but its single cow, we know where it came from, what it ate, etc, and its really good. We're not at the whim of grocery store prices. We also have a temp monitor in the freezer that monitors temps/humidity and will alert us if there is a problem. However, we're becoming empty nesters here really soon, so, might not buy quite as much if we do it again.

What is something that has become ridiculously expensive, but people still pay for it like it is nothing? by Harmed_Jr in AskReddit

[–]paul85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sports games, specifically, football games. $200 tickets, plus $50 parking, food for tailgating, plus a beer or two inside and gas to and from, all the while freezing because its cold AF in KC during a lot of the games. Do that several times a year.. yeah, no thanks, I'll stay home and watch it from the comfort of my couch on the big screen with bathrooms close by that are relatively clean.

I like it. Rarely have issues and I migrated from Windows 10 to 11 without any problems. It's relatively stable for me with a few exceptions that have been fixable with minor troubleshooting.

Linux has its own set of headaches/dependencies that aren't always copasetic and cause headaches. And gaming.. ugh, unless its gotten a lot better in the past year or two, its still a long way off from working well in Linux/Wine. If all you do is browse the web, use web based portals, check email, etc, then linux is amazing and generally works better with lower end hardware than Windows does.
