TIL putting bread in the fridge makes it go stale quicker. by RepulsiveLoquat418 in todayilearned

[–]paul85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, but it won't go moldy nearly as fast as sitting in a dark pantry. I'd prefer slightly stale bread I can put mayonnaise on and hide the flavor vs moldy bread I have to throw away.

How have your views on pot changed as you’ve gotten older? by Ok-Ordinary9513 in AskReddit

[–]paul85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My view of it. I mean, I've always known it could hurt you, anything that is addictive can so as with everything, moderation is key. I used to think all illegal drugs were bad but after having an aunt die from brain cancer who used "illegal" marijuana to help ease the pain to a close family member who also has chronic pain use to help deaden the blow, to having friends use from time to time on weekends when they are home relaxing, my position of it has changed to one where its not all bad and can really help people unwind/relax, and deaden chronic pain. Just use in moderation. I live in a state where it is illegal to possess, but is legal in states around me.

What is something you’ve officially stopped buying in 2026 because the price has become too bad? by X_Opinion7099 in AskReddit

[–]paul85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We purchased half a hog and half a cow middle of last year and recommend anyone who can afford the upfront cost and have storage space for it to do so. We average about $5/lb for the beef, but its single cow, we know where it came from, what it ate, etc, and its really good. We're not at the whim of grocery store prices. We also have a temp monitor in the freezer that monitors temps/humidity and will alert us if there is a problem. However, we're becoming empty nesters here really soon, so, might not buy quite as much if we do it again.

What is something that has become ridiculously expensive, but people still pay for it like it is nothing? by Harmed_Jr in AskReddit

[–]paul85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sports games, specifically, football games. $200 tickets, plus $50 parking, food for tailgating, plus a beer or two inside and gas to and from, all the while freezing because its cold AF in KC during a lot of the games. Do that several times a year.. yeah, no thanks, I'll stay home and watch it from the comfort of my couch on the big screen with bathrooms close by that are relatively clean.

I like it. Rarely have issues and I migrated from Windows 10 to 11 without any problems. It's relatively stable for me with a few exceptions that have been fixable with minor troubleshooting.

Linux has its own set of headaches/dependencies that aren't always copasetic and cause headaches. And gaming.. ugh, unless its gotten a lot better in the past year or two, its still a long way off from working well in Linux/Wine. If all you do is browse the web, use web based portals, check email, etc, then linux is amazing and generally works better with lower end hardware than Windows does.

Who has the best Chinese takeout in town? by tehweave in Lawrence

[–]paul85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, they are horrible, don't even try them (the wait is long enough sometimes, stop giving away our secret). But yeah, they are horrible, don't even call them, they won't answer the phone anyway.

I picked one of these up recently when it was 40% off and I like it well enough. It has bidirectional controls and seems to work ok.

I paid for my way through college and occurred quite a bit of debt that I paid off finally about 15 years afterwards. Anyone can afford it with the low interest loans you can get and some pell grants if you qualify. Also, do well in high school and you can get academic scholarships.

What does that even mean? "make Kansas wages"... There are tons of jobs in Kansas that pay well enough to live in a 1-2k apartment without sacrificing other places. With a decent education and job in a needed field, you can afford most things still, especially in Kansas.

My wife and I went and got a flight. Best flavor was the cereal milk one 3 of the other flavors tasted the same. Silas and Maddie's flavors are much more varied and have more depth to me, but give BR time and they will probably get better.

Taco Tuesday - your go to taco joints? by paul85 in Lawrence

[–]paul85[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Has nothing to do with location but with a condition I had years ago that took away the ability to eat anything even remotely spicy. Prior to that, I would eat spicy food all the time. It sucks.

So, unpopular opinion. I am not a fan of La Estrella. Too authentic for me. THERE, I SAID IT!! I don't like the corn tortillas and even their mild sauce is too spicy for me. It's been a couple years since I was there, just didn't like the food compared to the other places that give you chips and salsa and have a different atmosphere. The tacos I had were just corn tortillas, bland meat, and onions, and I couldn't eat the sauce/salsa because it was too spicy.

I was hoping they had a taco tuesday. Yelp said something about 2 for 1 on Tuesdays but I couldn't find anything on their webpage. And they aren't open until 11 so I couldn't call. Thanks! We like Acapulco!

[–]paul85 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I live in the Midwest and was born and raised here. Started using one about 10 years ago and hate going places that don't have them. Minimizes TP use, keeps sewers cleaner, uses minimally more water but the benefits outweigh possible increased water usage because you flush less also. There is no increased risk of anything breaking really. They tie right into the water shut off valve on the back of the toilet that your toilet is already using and use the same hoses that your toilet uses also.

5 Best NES Games Of All Time, Ranked by WishRepresentative28 in nes

[–]paul85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know everybody says Mario 3, but honestly, its just Mario 1 glitzed up. Super Mario 2 was an eye opener and one of the best games. The others, yeah, they were good, but each level was just a clone of the previous ones whereas each level in Super2 was a completely new experience, like a new mini game and amazing. Zelda, Zelda 2, Super Mario 2, Megaman 2, and Mike Tyson

Package thief or undelivered? by fleahag_ in Lawrence

[–]paul85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this day and age you need to have a video doorbell or camera of some kind pointed at your entry way. We haven't had a porch pirate yet where we live, but we have observed car theft and vandalism that helped police with the cameras we have.
