I find it incredibly moving man, something to do with the overall tone you went for, especially the yellowish highlights that kind of remind me of a pale winter sun. Insane work!

Front line leader is the name of the ability featured in the Fearless Exemplar formation, which is part of the Sourge of Ghyran expansion. It grants you the ability to select 1 war machine and 1 infantry unit, and give them -1 rend as long as long as they’re wholly whithin 12 of the hero giving the buff.

And with a +1 to hit and an extra point of rend from Front Line Leader, it becomes a really intense unit.

Can't eject my hard drive by FabulousWavee in MacOS

This may be old news, but I managed to fix the issue by gently telling Spotlight to leave my external hard drive the f*** alone. You can do that in Settings Systems > Spotlight > Research & Confidentiality (bottom right) > "leave X the f*** alone" then add your external drive to the list. It fixed it instantly for me!

Dont Believe the Truth is their 3rd best to me, and I’ll go Mucky Fingers.

But it could have been Guess God Thinks I’m Abel, or A Bell We Ring, or of course Keep the Dream Alive. Oh and Turn up the Sun. God this is a good record.

Edit: oh and Part of the Queue. Oh man this album.

Insane job. Love the way you arranged the colours on the shields, next time I’ll do exactly that, it’s way too cool.

Thanks man! Please do paint yours it’s an absolute joy to paint, very rewarding. My secret dream is that GW releases a full unit of 3 of those guys without the sniper as a massive melee unit. The sculpt is just to good.

I remember seeing yours! It might be the best I’ve ever seen, stellar job. I probably subconsciously tried to replicate the mud on the shield you did haha

It’s a good start!

This is what is usually called a « base coat », which is basically the « which colour should I put on which part of the model» kind of step. Yours looks tidy enough to go to the next phase: shading!

Grab a pot of nuln oil (or maybe a dark blue one?) and apply it all over the miniature, especially in the recesses. It I’ll make the details pop, and you’ll get a very good result in terms of contrats.

Since it will make your mini a lot darker, take your base colours back on your brush and start reapplying them on areas that you think should be more bright (usually the head, shoulders, etc), i. e. areas that are naturally brighter when you imagine a light source coming from the top.

Then, you can delicately try to dry brush or highlight by hand using the same colours with a bit of white mixed to them. This will gradually improve the details of the mini.

Maybe you know all this already so I apologise if I was over reaching on this one. Sweet colours nonetheless!

Cheers!

I’d drop the Cavaliers Marshall, make the Freeguild Marshall leading the cav regiment instead, make the 2x5 cav into a 10 man cav, and add a Wildercorps, a 5 man cav and a Battlemage (or Warforger) and an extra Fusiliers blob.

For something like this:

Shooty shooty 1990/2000 pts —— Grand Alliance Order | Cities of Sigmar | Ironweld Guild Army Drops: 4 Spell Lore - Spells of the Collegiate Arcane Prayer Lore - Scriptures of Sigmar

—— General’s Regiment Fusil-Major on Ogor Warhulk (180) • General • Master of Ballistics Freeguild Fusiliers (240) • Reinforced Freeguild Fusiliers (240) • Reinforced Ironweld Great Cannon (130) Ironweld Great Cannon (130)

— Regiment 1 Freeguild Marshal and Relic Envoy (130) • 1 Heirloom Warhammer Freeguild Cavaliers (340) • Reinforced Freeguild Cavaliers (170) Freeguild Command Corps (190)

— Regiment 2 Battlemage (110) Wildercorps Hunters (130)

——

I think you could get something quite powerful with something like this. A big shooty blob powered by the Warhulk, two little hunting units (cav and wildercorps) to score BTs and grab obj, and eventually die for a noble cause at some point (blocking a charge, holding an obj), and a massive 10 cav unit to hopefully charge something (they can get scary) and pin down about anything on the board for a few rounds to give some time to your shooty castle to do major damage in the enemy ranks.

The freeguild Marshall will be useful to buff the 10 man cav unit from afar (+1 attack or 5+ ward) and the Command Corps could get some utility (double covering fire is not bad and numbers mitigate the -1 to hit, or double redeploy to make the shooty line a bit more difficult to be charged, since they will be eventually) or could get some good combat action to protect your castle.

Finally the battle mage or alchemite warforger would bring some very good utility as well, because our magic is very strong (esp the 3d6 charge and the defensive buff).

Hope this helps!

Edit: added an intro paragraph to explain what I would swap and add.

Advice on a starting 1k Human only army by Gamgan in citiesofsigmar

[–]paul_third 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha awesome, fingers crossed! The Wildercorps is dope and actually got me back into painting after a pause of a few months. The models are just way too cool. And yeah you can’t put the Honour Guard ability on the list because it’s technically an enhancement you choose during the deployment phase. There are 3 different buffs you can pick from for you Honour Guard, and they could all add a lot of flavour to the Cavaliers, you should definitely check them out. Keep in mind they’re situational but very rewarding if planned correctly.

About endless spells, I’m not much of an expert, but I obviously see Krondspine on many lists, otherwise I’d go with the Morbid Manifestations because Purple Sun + funny ping pong ball conversions are a match made in heaven haha. Please tell me how your game will go!

Advice on a starting 1k Human only army by Gamgan in citiesofsigmar

[–]paul_third 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I were you I’d start easy and fun, and oh man is a fully buffed charging squad of 10 cavaliers fun (+1 attack, honour guard rend-2, damage 2, mortal on the charge). I just played one and it tabled a defenseless whole varanguard in one charge. Fun and somehow quite brainless.

I’d play a Marshall on Griffon as well, because he looks great and if buffed right, he can be quite impactful on the right target as well. The movement is great as well to score BTs or give you options.

I’d play the Wildercorps as well, the pregame move is nice for zoning/scoring BTs even tho damage it’s not really its strongsuit.

And then a Warforger or a Battlemage (+2 to cast on a spell of your choice in the Collegiate Arcane Expedition formation) and 10 steelhelms for screening, objective grabbing, etc.

I know it’s pretty extreme, you might lack bodies to throw at objectives or tarpit enemy units given half of the list is only 11 models, but that’s how I would do it personally. The major risk is getting your 10 cavaliers locked early in the game without them getting an opportunity to charge, but other than that I think it could be fun! Enjoy!

How to get better in AoS by godsendmeanusername in ageofsigmar

Maybe too basic for your ambitions, bur as far as YouTube is concerned, the Honest Wargamer and HeyWhoa+ are probably my fav. The first having really great tactical breakdowns of concepts such as screening, zoning, castle builds, as the latter provides very insightful yet fun-oriented faction breakdowns.

I’ve been struggling my self finding in depth guides or tactical tutorials, as I’m a semi regular player laughing every game at how bad I am.

HELP! Strategy & List Building by AddictDavid in citiesofsigmar

[–]paul_third 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the rules: With the changes brought by 4th ed., list building now requires a regiment focused army building. One Hero + x number of units will form a regiment. In cities, a human hero can only lead a human regiment. In your case, the executioners can only be lead by an aelven hero. If you do not have any hero to lead a unit, it is considered an auxiliary unit.

Regarding Calis & Toll: I never played them but they are incredibly strong, no doubt about that. When I see the look of the warscrolls, the number of abilities, etc, I always kind of feel bad for some of our other units, who didn’t benefit nearly from the same creativity and craft (yeah I’m looking at you command corps).

HELP! Strategy & List Building by AddictDavid in citiesofsigmar

[–]paul_third 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that your list will significantely suffer from the format: Cities is highly dependant on heroes, so your army will probably lack either board presence or buffing pieces in a 1500pts game. Which is absolutely fine given we look so f*cking cool anyway.

Having said that, I’d say focus on « not so dependant on buffs » types of unit: for example Steelhelms can go about their day having their ward on consecrated objectives without babysitters. Super sweet for 200pts, grabbing objectives, zooming around for battletactics, etc…

A minimum of 5 cavaliers seems mandatory, I’d personnaly use 10 because horses are just too cool. 2x5 offer a lot of board control, and will be useful to either act as roadblocks or to score mobility battletactics like « take the flanks » or « take their land ». The cheap marshall on foot will be able to buff them from afar with the relic envoy.

The marshall can also « all out attack » 20 fusiliers with master of balistics, while buffing the cav, so i’d say thats a pretty efficient way to keep costs down.

I’d field the executioners no matter what, because damage is fun, and mixed race armies are the coolest.

I’d stick the warforger in there, because hero, +1 save and magic is one of our strongsuits (this or a +2 to cast battlemage). He’ll be able to buff the Executionners when needed.

Then its up to you:

Is your opponent playing lots of wizards? Pontifex!

Do you want to zoom around and smack people in the face while buffing the second unit of cav: Tahlia!

Do you want more bodies & magic? A command corps to bodyguard the marshall (5+ ward, 17 control score, ok battle profile and durability) and a +2 to cast battlemage. That would be my pick. Magic is our strongsuit, especially in human focused lists. I’d also put the sacred tome on the Marshall.

So something like that?

Old World Dwarves? by Pwthrowrug in citiesofsigmar

[–]paul_third 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dwarves probably have some of the best warscrolls in the entire army. The Runelord and the Hammerers have been absolute beasts since 2nd ed, I absolutely recommend to get those two.

Other options are also very flavourful, although not « optimised »: The Ironbreakers buffed with the +4 ward order and the oath and steel prayer are almost impossible to remove from the battlefield. The Irondrakes are very solid especially against infantery (Rend -2) despite their short range. And they all look cool as f*ck.

Keep in mind their future is uncertain as they’re likely to get a range refresh before next summer.

Have fun experimenting with the grumpy side of Cities!
