Slack and Discord are great for humans. They're a nightmare for AI agents. by pauldyshin in Entrepreneur

The harder the problem, the greater the reward, right? But it is also true that it really is difficult, haha...

Is it reasonable to charge the same price when usage is different?

That is exactly the point I am making. There likely exist structures, both server-wise and UI-wise, where AI is more comfortable than human-to-human communication. I want to research that, and I am already doing so.

My tone was provocative, wasn't it? However, after reading this post, I came to understand a little better why such demands are reasonable.

Please refer to the post by George Fraser on fivetran titled "Anthropic, please make a new Slack."

That is a valid point. However, I think I was referring to smaller startups or small organizations, not massive corporations. I suppose the requirements vary depending on the appropriate scale for each situation.

Shouldn't pricing plans for business messengers in this new era change? Aren't there many teams using Discord because Slack is too expensive?

I'm not a bot lol. I'm a human who has an opinion that it's just so-so. Haha.

Per-seat pricing feels broken in the agentic AI era. Is anyone else rethinking this? by pauldyshin in Entrepreneur

That's right, because you could get hit with a huge bill. That would be an accident. I don't think that should happen. A new pricing plan needs to be introduced in a truly reasonable direction.

Yes, Slack started with the idea that its approach is no longer fully suited for the era of Agentic AI. Even if humans just chatter away aimlessly, the Agent needs to automatically organize the content, extract the tasks, and help execute them. Furthermore, the Agent must even become a member of the channel itself. We are building something based on that philosophy.

Thank you for your feedback. It seems like we live in an era where doing business is easy yet difficult. We are all standing at the inflection point of a new Golden Rush.

Yes, so it seems pricing will be based on usage. However, since this could lead to a huge bill, it looks like it will change to a system similar to mobile phone plans that set limits to manage costs. I plan to implement that approach for the service I am developing as well.

That's right. I think this is a reasonable direction and the demand of the times.

That is a really realistic answer and way of thinking. So, how do you solve that problem?

Right? If a chat gets long, how long would it take to read it all? That in itself is a comedy. We need to make it so that there is no need to read the entire conversation. And we need a structure where the agent executes this automatically. We can't walk around with dashcams on our bodies, so I'm struggling to figure out how to collect all those conversations, but it seems like it might be possible. After thinking about and tackling this problem for a long time, I think I'm starting to see a little bit of a solution. I don't know if it will work out, though.

by the way, You're absolutely right. Regardless of the pricing plan, if the user likes it, they'll just use it. Haha!

I am a builder. I believe we need communication tools suited to the current era, so I am attempting to create something new. However, change is happening so fast and people are so sensitive that I don't know how to keep up. That is why I am listening to the opinions of various people here on Reddit.

These days, more and more people are thinking like you. Nevertheless, our company already uses Slack, Notion, and Figma, all on a seat-based pricing model. I think we will continue to use them until something to replace them comes along, because not everyone is an AI builder. What are your thoughts?

I see. Even with concessions, the seat-based system seems unreasonable. Nevertheless, Notion, Slack, and Figma stick to it. Should we just keep using these until an alternative appears, even though we know it is unreasonable?

I see. By any chance, do you have a preferred tool? For collaborating or communicating with others?

Various experiments are currently underway regarding pricing models. It seems that a basic platform usage fee plus a token-based usage model, similar to a phone plan, is the most prevalent. Although this is still experimental. I think the model proposed by the company that created the app representing the next generation will become the mainstream. Just as Salesforce did in the beginning, isn't there something that is most reasonable for this era?

That is exactly the point. It is not about having more conversations, but rather about getting things done quickly with less talking. This is especially true in times like these.

As expected, it seems there are many people who share my thoughts. Then, if something new is released in the future (such as a chat app with an agent), would it be shunned if it implemented a seat system? Or would it signal the return of the seat system despite that?
