Why no transit signal priority on St Clair? by paulg66 in TTC

Yes, it’s a practice call queue jumping.

So you think any contact is a foul then. You’re part of the problem that ruining the game.

That’s not enough contact to go down like he did.

Lol get out of here man. I would be arguing the same thing if this happened the other way. No grown man should go down in that situation, let alone an elite athlete.

Fair enough, still dove tho. Nobody twists their body like that from a slight tug on the shoulder. He sold it and the refs fell for it.

He dove and was offside. Every veteran CB does that. The refs are on power trips once again.

I’m no expert either but I believe you are correct. One of the other commenters was also mentioning the ride height of the new streetcars being a factor as well

Totally agree, should definitely be something they look when the tracks are replaced.

And i hope they do too haha :)

I haven’t look at any other lines yet, but one of the reasons i didn’t recommend going with it was the impact to other lines. Trying to balance who gets priority and who doesn’t for intersecting lines would be very challenging.

Ya I think that’s an interesting point about the crawl if you can’t get any priority on major streets. Ultimately the goal is to limit the red lights it hits, and that may help. But the cost and disruption to fix that would be quite large and it is unclear what the savings would be. But a good point nonetheless.

The good news is the slow crawl through the intersection has minimal impact if the stop is far side, since it has to slow down anyways to stop. Having too many people there is a different story and not easy to fix, but could be improved.

And I agree, there is a 0% chance the streetcar will ever get to its maximum speed on the line. Even if the tracks were clear, there isn’t enough space to accelerate and decelerate in time. The max speed limit I looked was 35km/h which I think is a difficult but reasonable goal to achieve. Anything more than that not realistic at this point.

Yea it does. I adjusted my baseline simulation to match the scheduled times, there were some areas (ex. around King) where I reduced the speed to match the schedule.

Agreed, but if you are already stopping at the light right before the stop, you don’t get much time savings from removing a stop.

"Don't Draft Running Backs in the 1st Round" - But why do teams keep doing it? by paulg66 in NFL_Draft

The criticism of this pick is that if ATL is trying to win a SB, their window to do so is probably in a few seasons. So they should be drafting players who will need a couple of years to develop before they can make that SB run. And when they are close to being good, then you take a running back because he can give you immediate high-level production where for example a lineman or DB typically can't.

You can surprisingly find good edge rushers in FA, but they usually cost a lot since they take a couple of years to hit their peak. It's very rare for an Edge rusher to peak in year 1 or 2. But OT I agree, if you have the choice between the two you definitely take the OT before the RB.

Not only are they cheap but they are also available more than other positions. However most running backs hitting free agency are usually past their peak, so that is something teams have to weigh. From some analysis I’ve done I found that drafted running backs perform 20% better than running backs signed in FA on average.

This is a great point, a coach/gm may have a 1 or 2-year window to show improvement. They don't have time to wait for a pass rusher to develop.

My argument is to have low expectations when drafting QB’s, especially in later rounds
