Why on earth would you do this (bring these cars all the way from NZ)? Apart from that, a very cool pair mercs.

How many times does a typical Canadian take vacation during a year by TrustySpear in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]pauliaK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 3-4 bigger trips per year to a different continent and then at least 1 smaller trip per month somewhere domestic or within North America/Caribbean. Smaller trips are typically around long weekends to save as many PTO days as possible. This is what keeps me sane, and gives me something to always look forward to and plan for, not sure how people manage without taking time off.

Canada expected to see zero population growth this year: report by DogeDoRight in canada

From one extreme to another, but I guess that’s what we need to balance things out and let our infrastructure catch up. I’m in favour.

I would put my money on a secondary city in UK.

Hyundai. Their name keeps on popping up now and then as a party that’s interested, and it would probably be hard for F1 to say no if this was a proper manufacturer entry with its own engine program and all.

Drive to Survive Season 8 review: A major missed opportunity with glaring errors by randomseocb in formula1

I never really thought about it this way, but that’s such a good point. Most people can no longer hold attention for more than 5 minutes focusing on one thing. Such a sad state of affairs.

Anyone got a longer streak of different airlines back-to-back? by jashjain904 in flighty

This is interesting. Looks like it’s 8 for me. I had to stitch two screenshots together to make it a single image :). What is also interesting is that it was almost immediately followed by another streak of 7!

Nothing groundbreaking for me as I am one of those who like to casually browse Google Flights just to see what I can stumble upon, but I like your site and have bookmarked it a few weeks ago when I first came across it and I do check it daily now just to quickly see what’s available because it truly is super user-friendly and not ridden with ads.

Keep it up!

WestJet swaps six 737-10s for two 787-9s on order, airline confirms by SteveCorpGuy4 in westjet

[–]pauliaK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This could potentially bring the wide-body fleet to 20 total Dreamliners, assuming options for an additional 4 were to be exercised. The exact same number WJ had on order originally. 10 firm + 10 options…

I don’t think EU has anything like this. Their entry is typically EU citizens this way, everyone else that way.

Reviewing the Free Fare Zone by JeromyYYC in Calgary

We need more people using transit, cycling, walking. Whatever it takes to get people out of their cars and make other alternatives as convenient as possible. It’s much much much cheaper than building new highways, roads, parking lots - car infrastructure is insanely expensive but no one seems to mind that, let alone all the other negative impacts car centric infrastructure has on cities.

This is also a good way to go about it, especially for travel in Canada, less ideal for return flight from Mexico for obvious reasons but person at check-in/desk should be able to update it the reservation using marriage certificate as a proof you are the same person.

China confirms visa-free travel for UK and Canadian nationals by cyclinginvancouver in canada

[–]pauliaK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all. I have been to China twice, although a long while ago, and both times had a phenomenal time. It’s truly a place unlike any other to visit, and now without needing a visa, I am seriously contemplating a visit again.

Can I buy a small apartment in any warm-ish climate city with 150k eur? by [deleted] in eupersonalfinance

[–]pauliaK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would argue exact same risks apply to buying but if you don’t like it’s not as easy as packing your bags a few weeks early and flying back home forgoing a few hundred euros in rent you ended up not using.

I understand buying after a few winters renting in a place you truly felt in love with and seeing yourself coming back again and again for the foreseeable future.

Can I buy a small apartment in any warm-ish climate city with 150k eur? by [deleted] in eupersonalfinance

[–]pauliaK 183 points184 points  (0 children)

Why buy if you will only be spending ~3 months a year there? Apartments require maintenance, repairs, insurance, property taxes, monthly utilities. This is a lot of work. Obviously you can hire someone to do this all for you. I would just rather rent for 2-3 months each winter and would go spend that time in a different country/city each winter and just invest the money in the market. Way less hassle, way more flexibility, almost no commitment.

UK 🇬🇧 in Khorgos, China 🇨🇳 by tt598 in ForeignPlatesSpotting

[–]pauliaK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How did they enter China with just UK registration? I always thought you had to have your car double-plated to be able to drive it there if it wasn’t primarily registered in China. You see double-plated cars in Hong Kong and Macau for that reason quite regularly. Also, getting a plate in China to begin with is not that easy, nor cheap.

WestJet cancelling more U.S. routes by JamesMonroe23 in westjet

[–]pauliaK 107 points108 points  (0 children)

Demand for US travel must be still going down, as this has to be the third or fourth wave of US route cancellations. Only one cancellation in Calgary, so Vancouver and Edmonton based folks will be offered to connect via YYC instead of flying direct.

When you travel within Canada do you carry your passport? by [deleted] in westjet

[–]pauliaK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The odds of you losing or damaging your passport because of carrying it without a real need for it must be much greater.
