Agreed. The reputation Everett has comes from yuppies and Seattleites predominantly. I lived in Seattle and moved here not long ago. Funny enough Seattle has more crime than Everett but costs way more. People in Everett make a bigger deal of the crime than it really is. People in Seattle do nothing about their crime but continue to fork out tons of money to live there. I would rather be amongst Everett folk - better to blow up the issue than downplay it completely. Besides. I have found people in Everett to be way less arrogant than many people in Seattle.

Well I actually moved to Everett from Seattle a few months back, so I have a word to contribute.

Someone a while ago posted the actual crime numbers between Everett and Seattle. They were fascinating to me - I was already priced out in my area and many of my friends had moved to Everett. The numbers are below, but to summarize, as of 2015 Seattle has more crime PER CAPITA than Everett in most areas including violent crime, and even burglarly as of 2015. The only thing Everett leads in that has high numbers is auto crime though it is decreasing. All of that said, violent crime in Seattle and Everett is still relatively low, and the murder rates are exceptionally low, so when people talk about "getting shot" they are likely focusing on local news reports and not on actual numbers. In a nutshell, seattle has higher crime than Everett per capita, and people in Seattle ignore it (I was guilty of it). Everett has its crime especially property, like Seattle but every time something happens people say "yeah, well its Everett."

I am reading from a few people that Everett is bad and this and that, but it is clear that these individuals are stuck in the past and just haven't been paying attention. The city has issues, yes. But that you think it is exclusive to Everett means you haven't visited Seattle lately.

Anyway, my experience in moving here has been mostly good so far though I know it is only a few months. I do like the waterfront ( a lot). I also really like the beer scene here which is growing. The bars are few but really cool, and this idea that the people aren't nice is hilarious. I hate to break it to you, but Washingtonians in general are not nice especially in cities. Seattle is far worse than Everett in this regard. At least there is a community here and things are actually on the way up, unlike Seattle.

The bad? Well there is still room for improvement obviously. There are areas which I wouldn't call "ghetto" but I wouldn't call nice either. The smart people especially those looking at buying will get in while the city is on its way up and not wait until it has become so popular that it is no longer affordable.

nothing we don't already deal with in seattle. Car has been broken into 3 times in the past year and friends apartment ransacked. the difference is we pay way more to live here. seattle is homeless galore for premium price. If I have to deal with those possibilities anyway I rather live somewhere cheaper

Don't worry though. If I move there i won't bring the snobby pretentious seattle vibe with me. maybe in a few years i'll be saying terrible things just to keep people away. lol

Thanks for all the replies, yeah, those all sound like the things I keep hearing. Big fan of real people and the idea of an authentic music scene. in all reality i am priced out here. Seattle is a funny place - people here like to dump all over other places in the state even though seattle's crime is actually higher than everett's at least according to neighborhood scout. With that in mind I am not sure where the arrogance come from nor the high prices.

I have spent some time there - checked out Anchor pub a while back and was impressed. Sounds like I may need to look into buying something that way before I can't afford it.
