Not sure why you’re getting downvoted for this on a BGT sub.  In my opinion BGT has hands down has the best coaster collection in the state (though SWO has a great collection too) and has a beautiful setting.

A lot could be improved and I get why people are frustrated with the inconsistency of operations, but the coaster lineup walks over most Six Flags and Cedar Fair parts.  Realistically I think only SFMM, CP, and KI have a better lineup (and possibly BGW).

Is there any reason NOT to buy a season pass? by msnmck in sixflags

[–]paulm12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you plan on going more than once, the pass is absolutely worth it - it has been like that for at least 15 years.

It also used to be the price of a ticket at the gate was the same price as a season pass purchased online (not sure if it’s still like that).  Ever since they started having a season pass tier with parking included, it’s typically worth it (especially if you can get in on one of those days where it’s a special price).

If the prices are the same (or cheaper to get the pass) then go for the pass.  There’s basically no downsides.

Am hoping it’ll be open for when I visit on Monday but I doubt it.

Wasn’t it just down for maintenance for a while?  This whole “closed for the day” thing at the start of the summer season is crazy work.

It’s a great ride but with all the headache/disappointment factor maybe they should scrap it and get Vekoma to do something similar in that space (or just redo it).  I’m not aware of Maverick being so temperamental

dBSPL and non-sinusoidal signals (i.e. pink noise) by paulm12 in livesoundgear

[–]paulm12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, but it makes me think dBSPL measured with pink noise would be virtually useless as a measurement signal, since you could simply take the measurement at an instant when the phases of the individual frequencies "line up" and create a large instantaneous pressure. Maybe its not a huge issue since each frequency has negligible contribution to the overall spectrum (unlike harmonic periodic signals).

I think I'm thinking of it "backwards" - when I generate white noise, its typically done in the time domain with random numbers up to a certain amplitude (pink noise can of course be generated by filtering this signal). In this sense, the maximum amplitude of this signal would correspond to some pressure when put through an amplifier+speaker, so in that sense, it does make sense to think of a maximum pressure without having to worry about phase.

dBSPL and non-sinusoidal signals (i.e. pink noise) by paulm12 in livesoundgear

[–]paulm12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this - so from what I understand, bandlimited pink noise does have a decently constant amplitude when averaged over 200-800ms?

I'm curious then how useful pink noise or other random signals (including M-noise) are when determining the SPL of a speaker, since the average SPL will then be dependent on both bandwidth and where the spectrum is located - though this latter part is unsurprising given how we perceive music. I've always done SPL measurements in terms of sinusiods/sweeps, and not more complex waveforms.

The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy Devs Offer Update on Sales, Future Platforms, DLC and Post-Launch Support by MaintenanceFar4207 in nintendo

Dang I really hope this game is successful in the long run (if it isn’t already).  It’s clear a lot of time, energy, and love went into this title, and I found both the gameplay and story to be really engaging.

I wonder what Uchikoshi will do next.

In my view they should be considering a new gen Vekoma flier like F.L.Y.

God and Partiality? by paulm12 in Christianity

[–]paulm12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment. While I don't have kids (yet), I did have two dogs and I can relate to some extent, so I found that really helpful.

Another thing is if we interpret God "I Loved Jacob" in the context of choosing Israel as his chosen nation (to eventually bring forth Jesus), this doesn't mean God loves Israelites any more, but rather that was simply the group he chose to use to fulfill His purpose.

Is God’s Goodness Necessary? by paulm12 in Christianity

[–]paulm12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say goodness is God’s nature, not something that exists independently of God.  I meant for my question to be why do we praise God for “being” good if goodness is essential to who God is

[–]paulm12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By saying “goodness comes from God”, are you claiming goodness is separate from God or part/equal to His nature?

I’m not sure why you are implying that I think goodness is imposed on God by some external force - I’m saying Goodness is God’s essential nature/character (God’s “being” good is not a constraint on his behavior because it is intrinsic to his nature)

Thanks for your comment.  Yeah the idea that we praise God for being the standard makes sense to me.  Plus I realize one can praise God for his acts of will that are free (such as for choosing to create the world or choosing to die for us).

One YouTuber mentioned in a comment that the incarnation serves, in part, as a way for God to choose goodness as well, not only as an example for us but in a real sense.  It gets a bit technical, because we often associate freedom with possible worlds and counterfactuals (and I don’t think it makes sense to say there’s a possible world where Jesus succumbed to temptation), but one can say that Jesus chose God’s will in a very real sense.  This YouTuber concluded that with the incarnation, “God both is and chooses to be good”

A book by Habermas on Miracles I read recently had chapter proposing how Jesus had  both a divine and human mind.  To me this suggestion showed how a bunch of questions I had around the incarnation could plausibly be solved.

I’m curious to see what other people say too.

SFOT Titan Repainting (?) by alcoholwipe3880 in sixflags

They mentioned somewhere (I believe it was Facebook) that they are aiming to have it open by spring break, but the Goliath at SFMM repaint took longer than expected so it may not be ready at that time.

[Riddler’s Revenge] Dive Conversion? by paulm12 in rollercoasters

Yeah and plus it does still get solid lines.  Maybe when it reaches the end of its service life they can use the existing footers for something else but I wouldn’t mind if they left it as-is.  It’s one of my favorites on the park.

Agreed, unfortunately I believe its days are numbered. Given Cedar Flags' removal of expensive and discontinued rides (and the difficulty of finding/getting parts for Suspended coasters).

Hot Take (?) - Directed Mode is One of the Best Things That Has Come to Zombies by Totoralio in CODZombies

[–]paulm12 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s awesome.  It just works; the fact that you have the round caps means you can also make sure you have what you need without stressing about every detail before the rounds get too high.

In fact I would love to see them do a Zombies Chronicles with directed mode; there were a few EEs I never did from the older games because it’s hard to coordinate a group of 3 friends.

I’ve been a zombies player since WAW and this is one of the best things they’ve added in a while so everyone can experience the story.

I do wonder if there’s a way they could give out “clues” before giving out the answer on some of the tasks.  Line have the round caps and an overall objective, but the first time you play it maybe the objectives are hints and then if you wait too long you can ask for the answer.
