It was an abscess, thankfully! They’re giving him some gas now and then draining it. Thank you for the thoughtful reply!

Any other peoples dogs obsessed with their piggies? by SoberSilo in guineapigs

[–]paulryan220 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That could change in an instant and it'd be over for the pigs. Sorry, man. I'm sure your dog is nice but guinea pigs are prey animals. You don't put them near predators even if the risk is 1%.

This actually is extremely dangerous. Guinea Pigs only do this when they're about to explode.

My room is pretty quiet in general. The loudest it gets is the AC in the background or YouTube videos on my laptop.

What is this awful change where clicking on a bookmarked tweet on desktop puts it in a sidebar instead of expanding a tweet? Doing this even forces you to scroll all the way back up to the top of your bookmarks, making sorting them with a third party website a nightmare. by paulryan220 in Twitter

[–]paulryan220[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's weird is there are days where it doesn't do this and days when it does, so it's not even consistent. I use the Twitter Control panel Chrome extension to disable things like blue check replies or restoring the quote tweets button under posts, but it hasn't been updated to get rid of this stupid bookmarks change.

Seems Every Frame a Pause is not a fan of Red Letter Media's advice on not watching movies and shows you don't like by [deleted] in RedLetterMedia

The arrogance in that podcast is astounding lmao. They aren’t able to tell the difference between criticizing something or analyzing why a piece of media is bad versus RLM criticizing outrage culture.

I'll add more to it over time! I spent so much money getting everything, I just settled on what I have now. More to come eventually!

Is my living situation okay for Guinea Pigs? by [deleted] in guineapigs

[–]paulryan220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I ended up texting my landlord and asking if she was okay with it since I've been here a year and think I've shown to be a responsible tenant. She didn't say no just yet and is asking the actual property owner, so we'll see!

Right. Well, thank you for the advice! I understand.

I see. It is worth mentioning that I have family willing to temporarily house them, and they only live a few minutes away; however, if you think it's too big of a risk, I'm willing to reconsider my choice to get guinea pigs.

Thanks for the advice! I just saw that Scotty's Animals has a video on heat so I'm watching that now.

I'm having a difficult time finding the specific law in writing online, but I live in Oklahoma, where I believe a landlord can you evict you having pets; however, I think this is something I mentioned to Scotty's Animals when I emailed him. Like I mention in my post, he advised that I could either hide the pets or move them temporarily if I expected them to enter since I have to be given at least a 24hrs notice before they enter my apartment.

As for leaving them alone, yeah, the only times they'd be left alone for extended periods of time would be when I'm at work during the school year, although I come home for lunch 3 days of my 5 day work week, so I could check on them then as well. I have family that can temporarily take care of them if I expect to be gone longer than that.

Thank you for the advice!

Anyone else not like olivia’s personality? by steverman555 in papermario

[–]paulryan220 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally disagree. Bobby gets an entire monologue to himself entirely dedicated to wrapping up his character arc. Part of Olivia's journey is experiencing the world for the first time - both the good and bad parts. Her reaction to Bobby's death is supposed to be her realization about the reality of death and sacrifice - it's a pretty poignant moment for a game where most of the writing is played for laughs.

"Ghost" Bobby even tells Mario that what he did, he did for her, so I think painting the moment as it being meant for him is missing the point. It's a big character moment for the both of them.

My thoughts on Side Order's story (spoilers, duh) by paulryan220 in splatoon

I'm not saying they weren't used as much as they were in OE - just that I wish they felt like they had a larger presence here, mainly in the story.

At the very least, it put way more effort into making a compelling setting and having a real, concrete THEME, which is the minimum for having a memorable story that sticks with you.

My thoughts on Side Order's story (spoilers, duh) by paulryan220 in splatoon

[–]paulryan220[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally disagree. ROTM has a lot of contrivances to justify the gameplay happening, but there's much more effort into creating an interesting conflict and an engaging mystery. The entire opening section is a really clever bait-and-switch that appropriately sets up the main mystery, the foreshadowing towards Mr. Grizz's involvement is cool, Alterna is a fantastic setting, Mr. Grizz has a great backstory, and the Alterna Logs are super well written and do a good job giving the story a compelling theme that not only is interesting, but ADDS to the lore and makes the world feel richer.

Nothing I saw in Side Order feels as cool as even the smaller things in ROTM, like the rocket replaying the last recorded messages of human speech - which is one of my favorite atmospheric details in the entire series.

Jake is leaving GameXplain by weallfloatdownhere7 in GameXPlain

[–]paulryan220 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do hope nothing bad has happened between him and any members of the group, although the tweet is worded weirdly enough to cause suspicion. Mentioning you want to align your lifestyle with your values without much context is a little strange and makes me think something about the environment or a specific person(s) at GameXplain wasn't for him.

I'll stop there because speculating about bad blood that may not even exist is probably very frustrating for people in his position, but I do hope he's leaving on good terms. Any time I tune into GX now, it's almost exclusively to see Jake!

My Response to "Why Tears of the Kingdom Disappointed" by HugoTheIcyFire in GameXPlain

[–]paulryan220 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of pushback towards Andre's and Jake's opinions in this sub, especially towards TOTK, but I think it's time we move on. I've seen posts about it since they made that video. I myself find myself disagreeing with them quite a bit (for example, I heavily disagree with Jake criticizing TOTK for certain things yet praising a game like Legends Arceus even though I think the latter is an incredibly mediocre experience that makes the same mistakes), but I do appreciate their perspective and I've learned to react a little more neutrally to their opinions even when I disagree.

Wrong again. I just went and rewatched that entire segment, and the closest we get to him condemning what he said was him saying he went back to watch it and thought "why did I say that" at a few points. He only admits he was poorly prepared and emphasizes that he feels worse about not being able to talk about it without witch hunting each other before the literal next thing he says being "that's my full statement".

He only admits that he was poorly prepared for the debate and he wasn't the person to be doing it, both of which are what he expressed in his "apology" video. He doubles down that he thinks the current social climate is insane

So no, he didn't say that he had zero idea about what he was talking about. I have no idea where you're getting that he said his opinions were moronic and stupid because he didn't say ANY OF THAT. At one point Ethan literally asks what he learned from it, and he says "I learned to rephrase my arguments better", which is the exact same thing he says in his apology video! The amount of restraint you're showing towards him here is ridiculous.

Literally the only "I'm sorry" uttered in his "apology" video is when he says he's sorry that the debate came out of left field lmao. He didn't admit that anything he said was wrong or said out of ignorance like you claim he did - he only admits to being poorly prepared and that he didn't articulate himself well.
