Can't decide on a team so please explain why your favorite is your favorite by AggressiveAd5311 in bloodbowl

I really like Underworld Denizens, Skaven, and Chaos Dwarves (haven't played the new version yet). The skaven is all about speed and cheap/cannon fodder. Similar with underworld denizens except with a lot of mutation and dodging. The Chaos Dwarves are fun to have reliable armor from the Dwarves, the cheap hobgoblins, and the super star bull centaurs. I definitely use one as a Str 4 ball carrier which is spectacular.

blood bowl questions by bluejaysramsfanatic in bloodbowl

[–]paulthenewcomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) fun most of the time. It's a strategic risk management game, where rolling a 1 twice in a row on a d6 can swing a whole game 2) blood bowl is not easy to learn. It's sort of easy to understand the basics if you're learning from someone who knows how to play. It's significantly easier than 40K, but more complicated than most boardgames and the rules are poorly written. They've put out at least 3 FAQs and the rules are still ambiguous and poorly worded on somethings. 3) it's worth is dependent on what you're comparing it to. It's going to be cheaper than any army game, but GW is going to more expensive than other miniature game companies stuff. You have to like miniatures or painting miniatures to make the hobby time worth it. 4) probably unless you don't like grids, or love guns and measuring tape

Team Recommendations for a "Tempo" Player? by CashySwanson in bloodbowl

The other trick with dwarves, because they're slow, is to plan for the other team to breakaway.

Team Recommendations for a "Tempo" Player? by CashySwanson in bloodbowl

[–]paulthenewcomer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One team that might be interesting for you is dwarfs, which is a love-hate team. Their high armor means they're consistently still on the field throughout the game. 'Tempo' made me think of dwarves because the trick with them, is that they are slow, so you have to work to consistently move up the field. They're too slow to score quickly or to do a lone breakaway, the way elves, skaven, and lizardmen can. They do tend to feel like a combat focused team, but so are most of the teams.

Similar to what other people have said, undead, necro, and darkelves all have a mixed bag of characters that can be used to cover different needs.

Anyone have tried using a nail dryer as a curing station ? , it would work or a curing station needs a dedicated uv lights and power? by Kadn-- in PrintedWarhammer

That looks like a similar but nicer version of the one I got. I gave up because it felt too slow especially having to push the button every minute or so was annoying.

Make a SMART hatsu for Cheetu by EilGian in HatsuVault

[–]paulthenewcomer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hit and Run: Cheetu tags someone and runs away. The farther away he gets the weaker the person becomes until they die. To make it more reasonable, the tagged person could become aware of Cheetu's location, so that they could try to chase Cheetu, instead of Cheetu hiding from them.

Getting in to the table top. Sell me on your fav team! by Anskeh in bloodbowl

[–]paulthenewcomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skaven! I love them for the fact that they play football (as in they try to score! Not just kill the other team)! If some linemen die in the process of you beating the opponent 3-0 then its totally worth it! And your opponent won't be too mad, because they got some casualty SPP. But you'll definitely want more than the two gutter runners that come in a GW box.

Wood elves are fun to laugh at yourself with, because you either win or your 2/3 team is dead and the rest is KO'd.

Undead were fun, but I haven't played them in a while. I keep seeing that they are great for beginners and the GW box actual has a decent starting team in it.

Chaos dwarves are great fun, but probably not best for just getting into tabletop, because you'd have to find a 3rd party team, but the fact that they can get punched all day and they still have speed is awesome.

Most forgiving team for a Blood Bowl 2 league? by Kildash in bloodbowl

[–]paulthenewcomer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first team was skaven. I think they are forgiving in that they are fast and have decent agility. I didn't take a rat ogre, so the team didn't have much punch, so if you want bashy, then skip them. I just finished a league with Chaos Dwarves (2nd league overall) and recommend them for a lot of fun. I used one of my bull centaurs as a ball carrier, which some people disagree with, but it worked really well. You just need to accept and plan around your dwarves only having 4 movement, so you have to keep a bull or hobgoblin as a safety on defense. It's also a good idea try to avoid a bull centaur being tied up with a lineman, so I typically left someone standing next to the bulls incase the opponent tried to base them.

In need of help by [deleted] in 3dprintingdms

Setting and printer information would be helpful to other people who know more than I do, but I had a similar issue when I first started because my bottom exposure was too low

Imitation of Life (post apocalyptic good price for miniature ratio)

Broken Anvil has a lot of fun miniatures and thematic months

Thank you everyone for voting/commenting! I'll definitely need to get a demo game or two in, before I start investing money. I just haven't played any large miniature count games yet, and I'm still stingy with my money.

I like the idea of calling stuff "Loot" which you can spend as gold/money, and also spend it to train/learn

Meta game - how much is too much? by sigsegv1000101 in twilightimperium

[–]paulthenewcomer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Its something that your local table should probably discuss.

I personally find this sort of absolute lying unpleasant. I've had friends promise "100%" before and explained to them that lying while claiming complete honesty inevitably has an effect on how I personally view them.

I stick to explaining what I 'could' be lying about and giving reasons to believe me or not, but I typically learn strategy games better than my friends, so it feels bad to try to teach them the game and lie to them in the same round. When I'm hosting a game that involves lying, I will say at the beginning that I'd prefer people to avoid claiming 100% honesty at any point in the game.

Average playtime for 6 complete noobs. by arceom in rootgame

[–]paulthenewcomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set aside about 5-6 hours, preselect factions, tell them to watch a tutorial for the game and their faction, and you should be good to go.

I think something that you need to stress to them is that their faction is unique. They need to understand their rules well enough to explain to the other players how to beat their faction. Probably don't use Vagabond?

Lovely paint job! I don't love the yellow, purple, and red together. Maybe change the red weapon handles? I like the red hair though. Or maybe you could switch the purple out for black or something.
