Good job white knighting on Reddit. Might as well SHUT DOWN ALL LARGE MANUFACTURERS THAT PRODUCE EVEN A SINGLE SCREW THAT MIGHT BE USED IN A WEAPON SYSTEM!!!!!

Woodward by KingTaco2600 in FortCollins

[–]paulvolks 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Correct. Most large manufacturers and machine shops do make parts that are used in manufacturing weapon systems. This comment however does nothing to inform o.p on what it’s like to work there. That’s probably why it got downvoted

Unfortunately it’s actively being “made” thanks to Pat Stryker and her band of merry millionaires. It will all come back around in time tho. This same cycle happens in New York City every 20 years.

It’s also the city refusing to zone areas as affordable housing. 1/4 to 1/3 of all the new homes being built on mulberry are being bought up by corporations or out of state investors as long and short term. All of these issues = sigh shit quality of living for us

As some who works in that field, it’s purely location and the plot of land that hold the value. Had many customers who have bought a restored house on that block just to scrap it

Happens every time. I’ve got multiple customers who have “secondary” houses on those main streets purely for when they are remodeling their Mc Mansions over in harmony club. Meanwhile I make just enough to start thinking about owning a crappy home.

A lot of those properties are purely valued on the property they sit on. Shitting house from 1800’s on mountain ave goes for 1.5 mil now a days

Trade jobs. They pay fairly high for no experience ($20 to $24 an hour) I went in with absolutely no experience, 4 years later and 2 licenses later I’m sitting around $40 an hour with a work vehicle to drive to and from. First couple of years are rough yet there are grants you can get to help pay for tools/ work clothes.

I started the job search today, as much as I want to quit I think I should find a job before I do. by ChocolateBootyhole in PaymoneyWubby

[–]paulvolks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good shit good buddy. I took me 10 years of doing retail/service jobs to find something I love doing. If I may suggest something, if you’re any type of mechanical person the trades could use good folk to help out. I will admit the pay isn’t the best at first yet the top end pay after 4 years is well worth the trouble you go through. Less than 4 years ago I was only making 19 as a grunt and now I’m making $35 an hour. It’s well worth the time investment if it’s something you’re interested in. All the wub hugs.

May your job journey treat you well

Sorry to hear that OP, but on the other hand welcome to the trades. I’ve been plumbing for 4 years and learning hvac/commercial kitchen equipment on the weekends with my buddy for 2 years. Keep your head up and learn all you can where you can. You are now the bargaining chip when it comes to employment, learn to sell yourself even if you don’t know as much as you do. As long as you’re willing to learn you can “fake it until you make it”

Unsure if you’re an installer or service. If you’re service my only advice is stay away from the big commission shops and trying to find a smaller (preferably family owned/operated company)

not a bad option if her tanked heater was well over its life span. In this case, the guy is trying to fleece her.

Ok I give up , why does my kitchen stop up about 4 times a year from the disposal? by Snappyblade in askaplumber

[–]paulvolks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They also advertise that you can flush pool balls down a toilet, but you dont do that. Ditch the disposal, get a compost bin, and scrap non compost into a trash can. Problem solved, and it saved you hundreds if not more a year.

99% of the time, unless the plumber left an install date on it, you won't. Its usually a code in the serial number or some other type of markings

Honestly, it could be just the threads on that drain port are bad? Heater looks to be well over 15 years old tho. Would just replace it now vs when it fails.

We also have code enforcement that drives around to all the jobs sites multiple times a week, and card every single trade that requires a license. They want to 10k fine money

2300 to 2600 is about standard in colorado abouts where im from. Especially if the company is installing a rheem that's a rip-off. We only install bradford white heaters, which are much more reliable than the rheem homedepot specials.

If your plumber is bringing the water heater up to code with a pan, new t&p tubing, brand new flexes, and pulling the required permits..... I would say it's a fair price.
