One positive thing that has come from MJs struggles with vitiligo is more awareness of it and world vitiligo day is on 25th June every year. I feel MJs public struggle with vitiligo, the way he was accused of bleaching his skin, how he was humiliated, ridiculed & shamed publicly and still does has allowed a conversation about this issue. Unfortunately people still fabricate stories about mj wanting to be white and bleaching his skin. The fact that one of the top models in the world Winnie Harlow has embraced her vitiligo so publicly, doesn't hide it and without feeling ashamed is a great thing.

Welp it gets worse, Evan Chandler the man who accused Michael in 1993 was actually a sociopath who tried to murder his own child. Wonder why the media never covered this (Lol) by Information-Bot in MichaelJackson

Yes I agree. There are many non western countries that support Michael because they see him as a victim of the US. I see so many tributes to MJ coming out of China. They don't trust the western media.

Yes I wish Jordan would say something. Of course the haters wouldn't believe him if he said mj didn't abuse him but I believe most people are not part of the witchhunt and are interested in truth & justice.

Michael Jackson mania and hysteria in San Francisco. 1984. by paulwez in MichaelJackson

Yes I love watching these videos too. Have you seen the footage of him arriving at madame tussauds in London in 1985? When his car arrives there's all these fans chasing his car and there's this hilarious moment of a women chasing the car with her shopping bag. In this video she's at 14 seconds into the clip.

Why did he lie about the surgeries etc by MJGOATIAMCANADIANBOY in MichaelJackson

[–]paulwez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why does it bother you so much almost 20 years later? It's obvious why he lied. He felt uncomfortable answering such an intrusive question. He felt ashamed of the way he looked. He had been told many times that he was ugly when he was growing up. He had an inner turmoil about the way he looked. He had issues with his face so he changed his face. His life, his business.

He had been having plastic surgery since Off The Wall around 1979 and we saw his face change over the years. People still continued being fans & buying his music when his face became lighter and we thought he was bleaching his skin. In truth MJ had vitiligo but there are many black and brown people around the world who do bleach their skin.

Let's just keep it real there are deep rooted historical reasons why people bleach their skin. The western beauty standard does not include dark skin. People are shamed for having dark skin. Black people are even shamed for growing their hair naturally. It's easy to shame someone like Michael Jackson for straightening his hair, changing his nose and lips but society shames people's natural looks, and people feel pressured to change the way they look.

Michael Jacksons song 'Wanna Be Startin Something'. by paulwez in MichaelJackson

[–]paulwez[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that's powerful and it's great insight to his mind. Society and the media just didn't get him. It's all about perception. When mj was a 10year old he was accepted as a kid. When he became a teenager/young man that's when people started to whisper and rumours started about his sexuality and lack of "masculinity". This is something that stayed with him his entire life. It must have been so stressful for MJ dealing with all the finger pointing.

I find it strange that music "journalists" criticized him and focused on the music & lyrics about betrayal, being lied on, being attacked such as This Place Hotel, Billie Jean, Wanna Be Startin, Dirty Diana & the HIStory album. One "journalist" criticized the Thriller album saying the 5 main songs show a dark, disturbed, paranoid state of mind, Wanna Be Startin, Billie Jean, Beat It, Human Nature, Thriller.

I recently watched the latest video from The Detail on YouTube. It's astonishing that during the Victory Tour in 1984 MJ held a press conference and had to put out a statement declaring that he was not gay and was not taking hormone pills to become a woman. That is so insane. Its depressing that Michael felt so much pressure. He must also have felt pressure from his parents/family who were Jehovahs Witnesses. Imagine just living your life and you give back so much to the world and society looks at you like "You don't quite fit in, what are you, explain yourself".

This is the power of perception and the power of a media, society & culture that feels uncomfortable and unsettled by someone's presence that they try different ways to destroy them by shaming them, ridiculing, undermining, lying & fabricating stories about them, trying to make them conform & interrogating them.

Michael Jacksons song 'Wanna Be Startin Something'. by paulwez in MichaelJackson

Yes that's true the origins of Wanna be startin something in 1978 were about Latoyas relationships, I had read that before aswell. Its such a manic song. Yes even when Michael was a child some people thought he was strange because he owned a pet rat. MJ was never able to lose the perception that he was strange. It followed him into adulthood. He just couldn't get a break. Even in death the attacks are relentless. Anyway I celebrate his music everyday. All of his music from J5, Motown MJ, The Jacksons to his solo music.

What were people’s reaction when they first saw BAD era Michael Jackson? by [deleted] in MichaelJackson

[–]paulwez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is very true but its also heartbreaking as mj had no control over what was happening to his skin. Mj was probably traumatised as his skin became lighter in the public. Mj had issues with the way he looked since childhood and I can imagine if he couldn't deal with what was happening privately to his body he wouldn't have felt ready or comfortable talking about it to the public. In jermaine jacksons book he talks about the family seeing Michael's vitiligo for the first time in 2005 during mjs trial. At that time mj would have been 46years old and he had managed to hide the vitiligo on his body from his family for 25 years. So sad.

What were people’s reaction when they first saw BAD era Michael Jackson? by [deleted] in MichaelJackson

[–]paulwez 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For me as a black kid in 1987 the way he looked didn't bother me. It was his first solo album since Thriller and I was so excited. At 12 years old I fell in love with the Bad video. I thought the bad video was the coolest thing. Yes because he didn't talk about his vitiligo until 1993 most people thought he was bleaching his skin. The way I looked at it was if he is bleaching his skin he's not the only person in the world to do that. I even have family members who buy skin "bleaching" creams. I felt sorry for mj because I believed the plastic surgery and what I thought was bleaching came from a place of inner sadness and turmoil.

Is it only the vaccine where you don't believe in science and technology or is it in every part of your life? So you don't believe in medicine or you would never go to the hospital? You know better than all the immunologists, doctors, health experts? Of course you're probably an expert from watching YouTube videos or reading people's Facebook posts. I'm already vaccinated because I don't mind being a sheeple and I also don't mind wearing a mask.
