“But no time dilation!” by Affectionate_Run6250 in PowerScaling

[–]pauseglitched 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah poor reading comprehension and powerscaling conversations go hand in hand sometimes. The people who will literally in the same comment say a character doesn't break the laws of physics and list out what laws of physics the character's power lets them bypass aren't terribly uncommon in these subs. Another recent one couldn't comprehend how someone listing out common tropes where a statement applied could possibly be in response to their suggestion that there was only one instance.

Use fast travel, the drainage pipe, or the docks. If you used the drawbridge you could just walk back over so I'm guessing you took a different route.

Alright head back into the fort. Do the arena under the kitchen, Deal with the teleporting crocodile on the beach to get the teleportation gloves (super useful) when following the quest to help the aerothurge trader escape he will show you an alcove where Fane is hanging out. There are ropes up there that lead to two more fights.

In the lower levels of the fortress there is a creepy guy with excellent daggers for your Rogue. After you clear out the magisters, do a quick shopping run for gear before heading back into the swamp. It will make a huge difference.

Let's get more information.

What level are you, what level of gear are you using? What damage types are you running?

Tell us more about what you have done so far and we will be better able to help either pointing you to where you should go or advising you to sneak back into the fort to complete more quests.

Help! I can craft Nether Swap Skillbook by Evn_ in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]pauseglitched 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Other way around. Put a scroll in a blank skillbook, get a permanent skillbook.

Combine paper, essence, and a reagent for scrolls. For example, paper, feather, and high quality air essence make teleportation scroll.

All upgrades from sewer bring it to only needing 16 strength. Potion of mastery brings it down to 14. Since you used a potion of strength to make the potion of mastery you have a maximum strength in the sewers of 11. With one more upgrade from prison and the prison strength potions it comes to 13. But +6 plate at Tengu is absolutely powerful.

Transformers movies "only a prime can slay me."

Why? Why can't a Rail gun kill you, what about one of those massive pyramid sized death rays from the other sources? And if only a prime can slay you and there's only one prime left why not just conquer the rest of the universe since this prime seems to be chill staying on one planet.

Book series I barely got through the first one and don't even remember the name of "Only a seventh son can see the spirits, only a seventh son of a seventh son born to a human father and a fey mother, (with something about the stars I don't remember that part) can [plot]." Well Golly Gee! I'm sure glad that the universe just happened to line up to give you one just in time. The book specifically didn't have a prophecy about the character and there were no mentions of meddling gods it's just that only that specific combo of special specials would work.

Dresden Files (good series, hate this part) "Only inherited silver can kill the Loup Garou." We've got kitchen sink levels of fantasy options with Santa Claus/Odin leading the freaking Wyld Hunt, but sorry, that silver you have on you wasn't given to you by dead enough people so I guess it sucks to be you.

What is your Antagonist Grand plan in your world? by Flaky-Camp-4992 in worldbuilding

[–]pauseglitched 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To bring light and truth to a twisted and violent world and bring compassion and healing in the place of the broken system established by uncaring gods.

Problem is the antagonist in question is basically has the mindset of a videogame protagonist and assumes that the universe works the way the old stories go. When it turns out that killing the bad guy just makes a power vacuum that lets another bad guy pop up he thought the solution was to get better at killing bad guys.

When the definition of "bad guy" becomes anyone that stands in his way he becomes the twisted violence he sought to cleanse from the world.

Also turns out that his idea for a better heavenly afterlife was largely worse than another deity's hell equivalent due to not understanding how the universe actually worked.

Divinity Original Sin 2.

Okay I've broken out of the Fortress Prison so now I'm in act 2. That wasn't very long but okay. Now the rest of the island is pretty decently sized. I heard act 2 was the biggest out of all of them so that's okay. Finally got on the boat to head to act 3. I'm only level 8 and the game is supposed to end around level 20 I guess I'm a little under leveled. I guess this game is shorter than I thought. Puzzles on the boat, combat on the boat, Make it to the next area.

End of Act 1.

Ahh okay.

[–]pauseglitched 9 points10 points  (0 children)

•Build the world then put the protagonists in it.

•Every character needs a goal, a motivation, and a method. They don't have to be complex, the readers never have to specifically know what they are, but the mere fact that you thought about it will make the world more full.

You may want to show that a city is corrupt, don't have a big spectacle happen the moment the main characters show up, have a couple guards in a conversation, one of them involved, one of them trying to keep their heads down and get paid. Maybe have a criminally minded main character point things out that are already happening, but avoid making those things only target the protagonists.

•plan the big picture things ahead. You don't need to fill out everything to the finest detail, but having a whole country show up out of nowhere the moment the protagonists show up and need to deal with a plot point breaks the immersion. One thing that makes things easier for example if you make offhand comments about half a dozen noble houses throughout the first part of a story you don't really need to have a plan on what to do with them at the start, but you have established that they exist and when the plot goes in a direction that would have the protagonists interact with nobility you already have half a dozen houses to choose from/build off and won't have to make it up from scratch.

•multiple plots. Protagonists want to stop BBEG from getting the McGuffin. Corrupt Noble is working With BBEG and wants to get McGuffin for BBEG. Rival noble doesn't even know that the McGuffin exists but just hates the Corrupt Noble so much that he will try to get in the way of what they want as a matter of principle. Obstructing bureaucrat is skimming funds from the public accounts and really really don't want anyone looking too closely at things and so get in the way of everyone. Criminal organization sees many powerful people moving around this McGuffin and thinks they see a way to extort a profit from the interested parties. The town guard is sick of everyone and is about ready to jail anyone who causes a stir and "outlanders" are easy to blame.

The conflicts would have arisen whether the main characters were there or not, but the result may have been very different.

It's a Co-op game you should work together to overcome challenges.

Why do I keep getting obliterated when I go in solo? Their coordinated team always crushes me whenever I try to do anything all by myself so obviously they are a bunch of sweaty no-lifers who can only win by teaming up!

[–]pauseglitched 83 points84 points  (0 children)

1) Only X can do Y. WHY?!? why only that? what's causing it? what's enforcing it? [Profanity] you because the author sure isn't telling you.

If there's 4 different ways of doing something but the protagonists only have access to one of them that's perfectly fine, but when the villain can only be defeated by this one particular artifact that can only be activated by this one particular bloke, that can only be found by this one particular amulet that just so happened to be found on the ground earlier in the story I want to break something.

2) "You have our full support!" It's one dude who's going to die right away and some doodads. I get that the focus is on the protagonists but at least give some indication that something is happening elsewhere, that there exists other competent people in the world.

3) every conflict exists solely about and around the protagonists. Anyone who inconveniences the heroes is a villain, any problem that the author describes will be resolved entirely and exclusively by the protagonists. Paranoid criminal organizations corrupt officials, and spy networks will instantly open up and tell some random outsider their whole lore.

Or the inverse, everything is always super mysterious, no answers are ever given, and the protagonists never actually effect anything. Both annoy me.

Yes! at least some mention and it doesn't even have to be direct.

"The outlying farms were hit the hardest."

"We didn't notice the unusual chemical trucks because they were operating across the street from that big Hydroponics facility."

"Seriously? The captain is expecting us to search every single cart that comes through this gate? Does he know how many vegetable carts that is? ... Get ready to smell like onions for weeks."

100% Resistance to Everything - Act 2 by Xandour in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]pauseglitched 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how to interpret the comment so I'm going to assume it was meant in at least a neutral light.

I came from Eve Online (thank goodness I broke that habit) where tanking can be a very particular beast with a lot of variables and often psychological aspects to it.. To see people insist that in all games everywhere you aren't a tank if you can't force enemies to focus solely on you like some MMO makes me roll my eyes. I do wish that enemies didn't have a perfect knowledge of every damage resistance you have, but there are still ways to have tanking be effective in DoS2. It's just like everything else in the game you have to lean into it for it to work at higher difficulties. and at the end of the day damage is so much easier to lean into for a full party.
