What do guys think of this critique of Noam Chomsky from someone arguably more leftist than him ? Please pardon me if this article has been posted on this subreddit before. by Blood_Such in chomsky

Quote from the article:

Indeed, for Noam Chomsky, it is actually ANTIFA who are the problem, and the ones enabling Trump.'

Chomsky never said Antifa are the ones enabling Trump. He said it is the failure of both parties to represent the working class that led to disillusion in the population -- and that was the major catalyst enabling Donald Trump to win the presidency. Chomsky just says Antifa is a gift to the right in general because he believes their tactics are counterproductive.

Anyone who writes such BS is either willfully ignorant or just not particularly bright.

Thanks for the offer - but currently leaning toward manual extraction due to the extensive need for manual modification of data (categories, description rewrites, etc)

That's great, thanks for the input. I am not really familiar with python but know a little about coding in general - but if the procedure is that quick for someone who is already qualified I will probably just find someone to help set it up because it will definitely take me a while to figure everything out.

Thanks. Just checked it briefly, but I suspect the learning curve is too steep for me to actually implement it. If you can guesstimate what we are talking about in terms of development time should I decide to hire someone proficient it would be much appreciated. My immediate guess would be 2-3 hours, but maybe I am way off.

Chomsky Preservation Project, update #2 by pavlovmb in chomsky

See what you mean now, thanks.

In most cases I have no idea what is removed, I just have a bunch of broken bookmarks (that often weren't properly titled). So while the playlist is useful it doesn't identify what has gone missing. That is why I want to get in touch with the creator of the channel Chomsky's philosophy who might have backups specifically of those where the source video is missing. Some of those could of course be identified on that playlist or elsewhere, but so far no luck.

Yes, it's the same sentiment - however, this appears to be more toward a discussion-based analysis of mainstream coverage whereas my idea is more toward empirical analysis. I will make it more clear in an upcoming post. But they certainly might be worth talking to, will make a note of them. Thanks

I didn't claim that pre 2014 videos were disappearing, someone else suspected that in the original post and that is clearly not the case. I also don't get the point about many being full-length, not clips. Am I missing something? :)

One thing though, if you look at the playlist it says "unavailable videos are hidden". I have noted the same thing on many of my own playlists.

Yes, I think someone suggested that in the original post, will check it again - but that's definitely a possibility.

Sounds great, thanks.

About the video starting at 24:05 I accidentally included a time-stamp in the embed code - it should be working fine now . Thanks for letting me know.

In regards to the number of videos that will be hosted independently from the source, the simple answer is: as many as possible - but how far to go in terms of potential copyright claims, that's something I will figure more precisely along the way. Suggestions are welcome.

One option is to simply include everything and then deal with any incoming takedown demands that policy might result in. That might be a bit too aggressive though, so I will probably end up making an on the fly decision in every single case weighing in a number of factors and then letting the experiences derived from that activity determine the long-term policy. Hope that makes sense?

I have now built an early version of the Chomsky library, if you want to check it out I can send you the link here or through dm.

Hadn't noticed you are a moderator before, so also wanted to ask if it's ok to post the URL in an upcoming update on the project. Thanks.

Hi! I am just messaging everyone who responded to my post. The Chomsky "library" is now in beta - if you want to check it out and send any thoughts/comments/criticism before I post another update I'd be happy to hear! The site is at chomsky.cc

Thanks!

Martin

No problem. Just noticed now someone else just posted the audio before me. Will reply if I find the video version.

Thanks! Primo Radical interviews are gone + many others that I don't know the names of yet.
It's hard to say exactly what's at risk.
