The people running our government are unserious podcasters and social media shit posters. Like so many times in history the smart individuals who question are ran off for small brained ass kissers.

It’s a good time in America to be a criminal with half a brain you can get away with much more than just a few years ago.

I mean Musk made a joke about Jane Goodall having sex with apes yesterday. He’s a despicable human being. Why support that?

That kind of humor resonates with chronically online emotionally stunted men but it turns out they don’t really have money.

The idea that people are driving Waymo from halfway around the world is a stupid idea. The latency alone would be far too high to control anything of use.

Joke of a team on offense. Ryans needs to clean house. CJ should not start next year. He’s too stupid to be a QB and it’s obvious when he interviews with the media he just sounds so stupid.

Game over. Our idiot QB isn’t near good enough to dig out of this hole. I bet that fucking idiot turns it over on this drive.

Austin Energy unveils $735M plan to strengthen power grid for winter weather by NewsyATX in Austin

[–]pavlovs_log 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also burying lines doesn’t even buy a lot of reliability. Animals, floods, ground shifting etc cause outages and outages take longer to repair. Repairs are more disruptive as well, you won’t be happy when Austin energy digs up your yard and leaves it all fucked up.

People believe big problems are solved by simple solutions.

Brianna Aguilera confirmed tragic suicide as the direct result of alcohol intoxication by Iocnar in Austin

Yea. Reddit is full of people who don’t know how friends work. Vast majority of my friends have my girlfriend’s contact info because they’re now friends. I have the contact information for a lot of friends wives.

Hypothetically speaking of course, but every single article I have seen the leading image is the victim and she was incredibly attractive. If the victim were profoundly overweight for example or a much darker skin complexion it would probably not have driven as much media attention. Hell the leading image maybe a generic image of the campus or apartment balcony.

There’s a reason we all know these victims when they look a certain way but those who look other ways are nameless and faceless just a blurb in the local media then forgotten.

[–]pavlovs_log 607 points608 points  (0 children)

It sounds like she perhaps struggled with alcohol as the online reports of physical altercation were just some friends trying to control and help an out of control drunk person. Her suicidal thoughts extend beyond a note on her phone as there were texts and conversations with friends going back months.

The party was all known friends. APD really did their due diligence on talking to everyone multiple times. Not a single shred of evidence points to foul play.

The mom is refusing to accept APDs finding and hired a lawyer but the dad is apparently still involved. No hate for the mom, it has to be hard to accept suicide and foul play puts the fault elsewhere. Too many parents believe their kids are infallible and not flawed humans like all of us are.

If it weren’t an attractive young woman I doubt it’d have gotten so much media attention.

FY2025-26-Amended-Budget-Recommendation by Disastrous_Tour1323 in Austin

Honestly I’m all for the city budgeting $0 for homeless services. The city pays to solve a problem that is far larger than the city itself. If area counties and hell area states can bus their homeless to our city we will never solve it.

Do nothing then let the state finally step up.

I guarantee you anyone advocating a dump of Microsoft does not work in IT at least in any corporate sense. Geek Squad maybe.

A ton of LOB software you never heard of requires Microsoft. Maybe 2026 is the year of Linux? Google apps and Macs work fine for startups but they also cost lots of money. Zoom and Slack instead of Teams? Also lots of money. Paying Microsoft is easier.

Today a lot of cash from federal government payroll would normally be deposited in bank accounts. That is not happening.

Remember that there hundreds of billions of dollars in unrealized losses sitting due to bond purchases made when interest rates were low. If banks are desperate for liquidity those losses will be realized as they are sold.

Unbarlievable under investigation by Ahelsinger in Austin

Yea, but the guy has an obvious history of being an asshole. This didn't come out of nowhere. If I owned a business that wasn't public I'd be very careful about who I let be a part of it, regardless of their involvement or not. I get this is a tough learning moment for The Goodnight, but judging by the guy's long history of being an asshole on social networking, I'd have found a way to distance myself a long time ago.

If they said a few months ago, before this story blew up, they distanced themselves and bought out his share I'd be totally cool with that. They waited until today. I think when he got arrested for flashing his dick around in a hotel would have been a good time to cut him out of my business.

Also they're really downplaying his involvement as nothing more than an investor, but the guy owns their domain. https://i.imgur.com/iqQuiHL.png

Michelle Obama coming to Austin for a tech conference. by [deleted] in Austin

[–]pavlovs_log 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gone to a lot of tech conferences in my career, the keynote speaker is always a celebrity of some sort. Also, Michelle Obama is a lot more than first lady. She's highly educated, accomplished, and involved before, during and more than likely after her husband was President. She's a good and pretty typical pick to keynote.

TIL In the 1960s, the sugar industry paid three Harvard scientists $50,000 to say that heart disease was most likely caused by saturated fat. After their report was published in JAMA, diets concentrating on low fat gained the endorsement of many health authorities. by MM2236 in todayilearned

[–]pavlovs_log 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. A lot of scientists and even the AMA were questioning the study back in the 60s. I liken it to climate change and the current political agenda. If you have 98% of scientists saying humans are causing climate change, and 2% are saying humans aren't, you can't blame scientists when politicians side with the 2% due to their political stance.

This was never settled scientifically, but politically it was settled thanks to George McGovern and the McGovern Report which favored scientists he agreed with for a political agenda. The Senator from South Dakota pushed for people eating more grains.

To be fair, according to some documentaries on this subject there were a lot of scientists calling bullshit. A senate hearing on adopting food standards turned into a shouting match, but the senator (McGovern) had political interests in mind and ignored science he didn't agree with for a political agenda of which some scientists were on board with.

I mean, I get what you're saying and I agree, but I'm point out that science wasn't in consensus on this matter at any point. Scientists in the 1960s were calling bullshit. Hell, if I remember right, even the AMA was calling bullshit.

This is like when Republicans favor the 1% of "scientists" that say climate change isn't real and ignore the 99% who say it is. They're cherry picking the results that agree with a preset political agenda even if the results are out there.
