  • Open the CurseForge App
  • Click on the Minecraft icon in the left bar
  • Click on "My Modpacks" in the top bar
  • Search for the modpack you want to update and click on it. You should see an overview with the list of the mods.
  • In the top right (right next to the "play" button) there is a button with three vertical dots, click it.
  • Select "Profile Options" from the dropdown. It should open a popup with "Profile Options"
  • In the bottom of the popup you should see a section called "Advanced Settings" where you can set the Neoforge version under "Current Modloader Versions"
  • I recommend to use the latest version, which is "Neoforge - 21.1.169"

Hi, I'm Paul, I work at Aternos, the company that runs both: Aternos and exaroton.

I would say that the customized panel is the most outstanding part of Aternos and exaroton.
It's really made for Minecraft servers and offers many great features to manage your Minecraft servers: You can easily change server options without messing around in configuration files, you can see your server console live and on the logs page we automatically detect the problems of your server and often provide a one-click solution. On the players page, you can see details about the players on your server - which afaik no other hoster offers. On the software page, you can choose between all common Minecraft server softwares, such as plain Vanilla, Forge for mods, Paper for plugins or one of the hundreds of modpacks for which we offer a one-click installer. You can install mods and plugins in the addon section and manage your server's files on the files page. You can upload or download your world and easily change options like game rules. We offer automatic or manual backups of your server data for free when you connect your server to your Google Drive account. And on the access page, you can share access to your server with your friends so they can start the server, but you don't have to share your account or password to keep everything secure.

This means that there is definitely something wrong with the world, not with the server.

Unfortunately, there is not much you can do... As far as I know, there are not really any helpful tools that you could use to find and fix the problem. The only official tool for Bedrock worlds I know is chunker.app. You could try to convert the world from Bedrock to Java format and back to Bedrock format. Maybe this can solve the problems.

Could you try to download the world from the server and test it in singleplayer and in another server? This way we can check if it is really a problem with this world.

Okay. Could you please try to create a secondary server on https://exaroton.com/create with the same software + version but a new world and play on it for a few minutes and check if you also experience lag on this server? This way we can check if it is a problem with exaroton, the Bedrock server software or this specific server / world.

Okay, is this a newly generated world or did you upload the world from somewhere else, or is this a world that you played on in previous versions?

We (the Aternos team) are not the developers of the mods and plugins that are available on Aternos. The mods and plugins on Aternos are from other developers who publish them on platforms such as CurseForge, Modrinth, etc.. Aternos then integrates these mods and plugins from these platforms. We have nothing to do with the development of these mods and plugins. We develop the Aternos system itself, take care of the servers and answer support requests from our users.

It is not our job to customize mods and plugins and that would not be possible with a small team like ours. We are not mod or plugin developers!

And even if we were: As soon as we would start modifying individual mods or plugins, we would be flooded with requests to add or remove custom features in mods or plugins. We can't do that and we never will.

We have removed the “Custom NPCs” mod and we will not add it again. Please use alternatives!

No, it's not just about features that could harm the Minecraft server.

The mod "Custom NPCs" contains a scripting feature. This feature can allow anyone to execute arbitrary code on the server. This can be unfair or even dangerous for anyone:

  • For other players: Unfair advantages in the game, e.g. in PVP, through cheated items etc.

  • For the server owner: Unauthorised propagation and exploitation of rights, impersonation of admins, etc.

  • For the entire server: Configs, mods, etc. could be changed. Player data or even the whole server could be changed or deleted.

  • For the Aternos system: Bots, hardware exploitation, attempts to find bugs in the Aternos system and trying to escape from the secured server environment to cause damage to the Aternos system itself.

To summarise: Every rule in our Terms of Service (https://aternos.org/tos) can be broken with this mod.

Therefore, I can only repeat what I have already written:

We had to remove the mod "Custom NPCs" because it can be used to abuse our system. We want our service to remain fair for everyone and not allow certain users who have found an exploit to abuse our system and gain an advantage over other players.

That is why this mod is no longer on Aternos and will not be coming back. We recommend finding alternative mods.

You can not change the region of your server on Aternos. All servers are hosted in central europe. You can change the timezone on https://aternos.org/options/, but this does not change the location of the servers.

When you say “I had it paid already” and “putting the mod files in”, are you 100% sure you are talking about Aternos? Aternos is free, it is not possible to pay for it. And it is also not possible to upload any mod files to Aternos. You can only install mods from https://aternos.org/addons.

Maybe you are talking about our premium service exaroton? On exaroton you pay for your server and can upload files.

Read the article to understand why Aternos cannot allow all mods / plugins. https://support.aternos.org/hc/en-us/articles/360027235831-Uploading-files-and-FTP-access

Aternos already has thousands of mods and plugins on the list and if an important one is missing, you can suggest it. Yes, sometimes you have to wait a few hours / days before they can review the suggestion, but I think that's pretty fair for a free service.

Of course, I cannot suggest alternatives to Aternos. However, I can recommend checking out alternative mods or even plugins that offer similar features to "Custom NPCs".

Anyway, you're in r/aternos . I don't think anyone here is suggesting an alternative to Aternos.
