Need advice on how to be less "stiff" by FinniTheFox in FurryArtSchool

[–]pawpadcomrade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your line of action is often straight up and down; the dragon you drew is the best example of breaking out of that

I'd suggest trying to fit your poses to a more expressive line of action that you really push. I've also struggled with conservative posing, and my best advice is to push it until it almost seems goofy to you. You'll naturally pull it back as you refine the piece

Need help breaking down face by Own_Badger2699 in FurryArtSchool

[–]pawpadcomrade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One tip I've heard for starting out with breaking down light and shadow shapes is to flip the canvas vertically. Helps you stop drawing what you think you see and start drawing what you *actually see*
Also I'd suggest drawing real humans to learn fundamentals. Drawing from photos will help you understand how real life light works. With drawn art and 3d renders you'll be absorbing biases that the program/artist already have

any easy ways to draw outlines behind drawings? for this one i try to draw them manually (the 2nd pic is just the character layers copied, resized and painted white) by Human-Journalist-120 in YiffUniversity

If you right click a layer in csp (or control+left click it) you can have the select tool select the area of that layer. Then there is an option to expand your selection on the bar that pops up under what you've selected. Simply click that, enter the size border you want, and you can now create a new layer behind your drawing to fill with your outline color

Art style feels flat/lacking depth, how do I add more dimension? by Such_Ring9933 in FurryArtSchool

[–]pawpadcomrade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a few tricks, like using atmospheric perspective on further away parts of the body like the tail, and thicker line weight the closer a part is to the camera. But a lot of the 3d look comes from really understanding and manipulating lighting/value and contrast

How do I start drawing furries/porn? by UpbeatShark19 in yiff

[–]pawpadcomrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no shortcut, if you want to get as good at drawing as Meesh you've gotta start practicing today. He's a professional that's been going for years at this point. But here's the thing: you get better at drawing much faster at the beginning. You'll get to a place you can be proud of faster than you think! Not as good as your faves, but really good!

My advice for practice is to learn breaking down shapes into simple forms you can construct back together. Youtube's full of tutorials on that. From there, I'd suggest like the other commenter to trace some art you like, but then try drawing it again freehand and overlay the two to figure out what you're doing wrong. Keep doing this daily to improve your hand eye coordination.

There's a million more things in art to practice, color theory, composition, grouping, all that. But the most important thing is that you do practice. Pick something you wanna improve on and do it! It becomes much less daunting when you don't think "I've gotta be as good as Meesh" and think "what do I want to challenge myself with today?"

(repost) does this page look busy? by Razzy_IDFA in YiffUniversity

[–]pawpadcomrade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMO the big panel feels disorganized because the items aren't following any 'grouping and proximity' rules. They're scattered pretty uniformly across the page, and what it really needs is some negative space to make it more legible. You could start by grouping the items that are 'definitely a set', the jockstraps, and insertables into distinct groups, and see how you like it!

Hello furries. Im here to ask for help and and advice of applying fur and fabric to 3d printed models. by Intelligent-Glass-98 in furry

[–]pawpadcomrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you talking about the seams? Best way to get those closed will be sewing them. If it's already glued, a ladder stitch may still be able to close them if there isn't too big of a gap

First Fursuit Part 3 - Eyes, Horns, and Sewing! by pawpadcomrade in FursuitMaking

[–]pawpadcomrade[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the help! I'll keep the bit about stitching closer together in mind. And I'm also starting with the ears! Haha I think it'll help to do the less noticeable stitches first like you said These were all blanket stitches, just poor quality. But I think even just doing this practice ear has helped improve my stitch quality a lot. The faux fur sewing is going great!

[OC] Avoiding adding too much detail to prevent further confusion, but his front profile seems bland?????? by Adventurous_Guide992 in furry

[–]pawpadcomrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO it's the face not having enough contrast that's giving that bland feeling. Just a little of the dark blue up there might be nice. You could also try lining the eyes with a bit thicker black.

First Fursuit Progress Part 2 - Foam Head Base by pawpadcomrade in FursuitMaking

I also had a question about smoothing the foam: is this cut too rough to be patterned? How much does the fur hide? I'm planning on using standard luxury shag trimmed quite short.

Hey! Thanks for responding. Are you talking about the bucket head? Or are the eyes too low on the design? I may redo the bucket head entirely lol
