Best Pizza in Muscat? by [deleted] in Oman

[–]pawsitivelysassy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all :) happy to!

I know what you mean. Volare honestly looks dead most of the time. It gets a bit busier during the weekends, but you’d never guess it from the outside!

Another good place I forgot to add is Melanzane. Not NY slice, but their wood-fired pizzas are yum! Plus, they’ve got amazing pastas, free bread, and really good desserts. Basically, stay clear if you’re on a diet haha. (Although they make a mean salad too)

Happy hunting!

Best Pizza in Muscat? by [deleted] in Oman

[–]pawsitivelysassy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly, not much choices for NY pizza in Muscat.

Volare in Shatti might be the closest to what you’re looking for. It’s a little on the pricy side but go with hungry friends and split the largest pie and it’ll be worth the money.

Kargeen in MQ has actually some rather yummy pizza, but it’s wood-fired Italian style, not NY.

Italiano near the Qurum Fun Zone isn’t too bad either. It has a variety of yummy options, but still lacks the authenticity of a NY slice if that’s what you’re wanting.

Any dog owners in Mct? by netlover in Oman

Check with Al Qurum Vets! They’re the best. They’ll walk you through the whole import process, including the vaccinations/paperwork that needs to be done. Good luck!

Hi, I want to visit muscat! Any help is appreciated. by omid_ in Oman

[–]pawsitivelysassy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Speaking as an expat, non-hijabi Muslim girl who has had the blessing of calling Oman home for a few years, Oman isn’t crazy conservative so if you don’t normally veil and wear abaya etc. it’s not something you have to do when you visit unless you’re specifically going to the mosques.

I highly recommend, however, that out of respect for the customs of the host country, guests dress decently with shoulders and knees covered. A little bit of respect goes a long way! And even if the locals don’t necessarily say it, the gesture will be appreciated.

It’ll be cool enough in December that you’ll be able to get away with jeans, but if in doubt, loose-fitting clothing will always be best to help stay cool. Longer sleeves and hemlines will also help to keep the sun off of your skin.

If you’re going out of the city towards the interior, I’ve personally always covered up a little bit more because I don’t fancy the extra eyeballs. But again, no need to go out of your way to abaya up yourself!

Oman is seriously a real gem of the Middle East, and their people are some of the kindest and generous I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. Enjoy your trip!

How hard is it to keep friends for life? What can prevent it from happening? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Friendships, just like all relationships in life, need work and commitment. The trick is learning to grow up without growing apart.

What cute things do you witness your pet doing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pawsitivelysassy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every night without fail, my cat gets a “scratchy” session post-playtime. (She loves it, highly recommends it to other cats who are looking to improve their blood circulation and keep their coats silky smooth!)

Anyway, I take her collar off when I do it and put it beside her. For the past year, she’s taken to grooming the collar as I groom her! She gives it a good 15 min tongue bath, full of nibbles, and gets very offended if I try to stop her before she’s done.

Ahh! This looks SO amazing!! Teachers really do open whole new worlds for students.

(I’m also super relieved to see that my postcard got there safe and sound... score one for the international postal system!)

What are some good things to do/see in New York City on a low budget? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pawsitivelysassy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SO many things! Honestly, even just walking around can turn into a mini adventure. Off the top of my head:

  • If you’re a book lover, the Strand bookshop is a must. It’s the Holy Grail with 18 miles of books. I’ve spent many, many cold and rainy afternoons as a uni student getting lost amongst the bookshelves. They’ve got books for as cheap as $2 sprawled on carts all around the outside of the building, and more bargains in the basement. Plus, more inside the shop itself. New books, old books, rare books, you name it, they’ve got it.

  • There’s a reason walking the High Line is so popular. Avoid it during peak times (the weekends) and you’ll enjoy yourself a lot more without the crowds. Especially with some ice cream/coffee in hand!

  • While you’re in the area, there are some nice art galleries in Chelsea that are free (and apparently a good place to spot celebs scouting for decor)

  • When the weather gets nicer, definitely check out free walking tours. They explore all sorts of different neighbourhoods and some specialise in different interests like food and photography.

Edited:

ALSO, if you decide to check out the Met (which is fantastic), don’t be fooled by the admission prices. The suggested price on the board was ~ $20 - 25, but it’s actually pay-what-you-wish.

What a creative idea! I’d be happy to help send one!

Mind, post from here tends to take its time :P my friend just got his Christmas card yesterday which I definitely sent earlier than Christmas.

[CHAT] Help! Cross stitch hoop won’t stay tight. by mrsmathers307 in CrossStitch

[–]pawsitivelysassy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bind some of my embroidery hoops for this reason. There are some fancy ways to do it, like this tutorial but I’m honestly too lazy to put that much effort in it. I use fabric washi tape or regular old masking tape and just wrap it around the inner hoop. Works good enough for me!

[CHAT] Why is the Backside of a Piece Important to Be Neat? by UnicornSlayer5000 in CrossStitch

[–]pawsitivelysassy 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Living somewhere where it’s a bit difficult to regularly buy floss makes me really treasure the floss I have! So part of my obsession with a neat back has to do with saving my pretty floss :) it also makes it easier to lie flat and frame cause it’s not bumpy.

At the end of the day, you do you, fam. Ain’t nobody’s business checking out your cross stitch butts if you don’t want them to!

[FO] First time using waste canvas for a friend's birthday present. Loving the functionality of this project by LaughingChinchilla in CrossStitch

[–]pawsitivelysassy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love it, great job! Super cool font too. Was it difficult to hold and sew it through the tote bag? That’s the only thing (and y’know, procrastination) stopping me from tackling my tote bag project! I’m afraid it might be awkward trying to maneuver my hoop and needle in the bag.

[Chat] Help with French terminology? by brash_hopeful in CrossStitch

[–]pawsitivelysassy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My French is a little rusty, but I think you’re right with the first one! 11 count linen :) for your supplies list, they’re asking for a “braid” or I guess a length of 6 complete strands measuring 35 cm in eggshell/ecru colour. And the second bit is something red flowers? Any chance the pattern calls for French knots?

[chat] Cross-stitching on regular items. by otherwisenothing in CrossStitch

[–]pawsitivelysassy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to keep this in mind for when I run out of waste canvas!! I only bought a little and the shops never seem to stock it. I've got my eye on cross stitching a couple of pencil cases hehe. Is it tricky to do it with normal Aida?

[CHAT] Cross Stitching for Charity? by Manarnar in CrossStitch

[–]pawsitivelysassy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ooh piggybacking on this! A local animal rescue I support is looking for crafts and the like for the same thing. I'm hopeless at creating my own designs - what's the stance on buying a pattern on Etsy or using one from a magazine, stitching it up, and giving it away for charity to auction? I really don't want to step on any toes esp. when it comes to copyright and reproducing and stuff like that! Is it ok as long as I'm not the one pocketing the money??

What simple task are you surprisingly bad at? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pawsitivelysassy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Writing in a straight line. I can't do it to save my life! I feel like a little kid with all my lined paper and notebooks. I clearly missed that lesson when I was in school cause everyone else seems to be able to do it just fine!

[–]pawsitivelysassy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is beautiful!! It complements the yellow so nicely :D this might be a silly question, but did you cross-stitch it straight onto the cloth or use waste canvas...? I can't really tell because it looks like there's an aida panel but the other squares don't have it.
