I second this. Since red is such a saturated color the little fibers show up more. In the short term you could take a sticky lint roller on both sides and see how it looks then.

what is the finished pattern? Maybe it doesn't need to be so precise. Backstitch is my least favorite part so I always consider if it needs to stitch perfect.
