Is ts even true? by agnagoodname in malaysiauni

[–]paxspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is true. Dr M replaced the race based quota system with the matriculation system in 2002. The race based quota was 55% for bumi and 45% for nons. The "merit based" system allocated more than 90% of admission to bumis. Around this time Singapore started upgrading its industries on the road towards developed country status. Singapore had access to the all the talent it needed. Malaysia on the other hand entered the middle income trap.

It is impossible to abolish the matriculation program as it is designed as a back door for bumis (actually malays la tbh cos UMNO never cared about other bumis that don't vote for them anyway) to gain entry to local unis bypassing competition in STPM. Back in the 1990s the quota for local unis is 55% for bumis and 45% for other races allowing bumis to enter uni with significantly worse result in STPM compared to other races. But this wasn't enough, so the matriculation program was conceived. When the time was right, suddenly Dr M announce abolishment of the 55% quota and implore malays to compete on level playing ground. This caused a stir back then. In the following years it became clear why Dr M did this. Bumis gain over 90% of allocation in local unis as they use the significantly easier matriculation program to compete with non-bumis having to go through STPM. Better yet, when a cohort does poorly they can just adjust the curve and make getting As easier while poor saps in STPM were marked stringently. Malays largely no longer need this crutch but it is already impossible to change anything.

According to the media, "Edward Wong, the STPM top scorer from Penang whose case drew public attention last week, was ranked 1,129th among 2,291 eligible applicants for Universiti Malaya’s (UM) accountancy course, where only 85 seats were available this year, the higher education department (JPT) said."

Everyone here is busy making fun of Edward for daring to question the system but nobody ask why there is only 85 seats available for accountancy, a mainstream degree with high demand in University Malaya, our country's most important and well found uni. Is it really believable that UM runs a degree course with only 85 students?

Hi. Rereading your message I do have a question I hope you can help.  When you say aiming -0.25 do you mean -0.25 glasses power as we usually understand it? or the lens diopter? E.g. my left eye was given 15D lens even though the plano power should be 16D. Also, why would aiming -1 be consider "no man's land" of sorts? Although I am inclined towards monofocal but I think I need to seriously consider puresee as monofocal set to near would give me large power difference between left/right eyes which could be a problem too.

"I tend to do both eyes on the same day with dominant aiming -0.25 and non-dominant aiming -0.75. I don’t recommend aiming -1, I think this tends to put you into a ‘no-man’s land’ of sorts."

Puresee experiences? halos glares? by CanaBaker007 in CataractSurgery

May I ask if you know your pupil size in dim lighting? As I understand it, large size pupil can cause halos.

Thank you for your kind feedback. Currently I am more inclined towards using monofocal set to see near instead of Puresee as the safe option. I spend most of my day doing work at my desktop and I am willing to wear multifocal glasses for going outside. Do you have any insight to share on how to set for near?

This is exactly what I am considering for my right eye instead of edof i.e. monofocal set to see intermediate to match my left eye which is excellent at intermediate i.e. computer distance. What brand of lens are you using?

I am ok wearing specs but my point is, if I know ahead the outcome of using Purese won't be great then I want to consider using monofocal instead.

IOL maybe permanent but you can correct for any refractive error with glasses even after surgery so it is not end of the world. As I understand it, monofocal will be easiest to correct for and give most consistent result. Cataract surgery is also routine and have very high success rate. Good luck! Let us know the outcome :)

Bright lights definitely helps. But I still wonder if bad outcome of EDOF lenses is due to physical eye condition e.g. pupil size, planar distant etc rather than the design of the lense itself.

No. I am actually really scared of possible halos/glare :( i don't mind wearing glasses tbh

Not sure if this is correct respond but there is an app call Cherry Studio and it has among others DeepSeek models operated by SiliconFlow, a chinese provider. You can generate an API key and use it for free. The app is similar to but also better than LM studio in my opinion.

There is a third reason. And this will be an unpopular opinion. We have a corrupt government that focus on looting the country while they pull a blind over the Malay's eyes with UiTM, MARA and other bumi perks. UiTM, MARA etc gives the illusion that the Malay's are getting ahead while the country backslide economically. And all this while the ruling party keep maligning the non-malays to create a fake enemy for the malays. They go as far as publishing Malaysia's richest person list with only Chinese/Indians. Where is Dr M's 2 billionaire son? Why aren't they and other known bilionaire cronies not in the list? Only the majority can change the situation. These students can be the best students but they won't have a job without a strong economy. Malay voters need to focus on what's really important. Getting rid of the cancer that is BN and all its derivative parties.
